Golden child/Narc brother is blowing up his life

My GC brother, who is himself a huge narc, got married 3 years ago to someone who doesn't worship him completely. At the time I was surprised and my best guess was that he liked the challenge or some other fucked up reason.

It turns out for the past 2 years he's been cheating with someone who is a lot younger and very vulnerable (family difficulties). He's positioned himself to be the only positive thing in that person's life and their world revolves around him.

Well his spouse caught on and shit is hitting the fan. His whole story is "[spouse] doesn't want me around, they drove me to this, [affair partner] is the only one who loves me and needs me" blah blah blah.

I'm disgusted. He basically groomed the affair partner into worshipping him. They are half his age.

I've already been LC and now I'm quietly going NC. My parents of course are siding with him and already planting the seeds of "[spouse] is no good" etc etc so when he one it gets divorced it will look like it was a good idea. Anything to protect their image.

On the one hand, I feel a weird kind of vindication that he's just as horrible as I always imagined him to be and my parents will just allow whatever the fuck he does to pass unchecked. On the other hand, I guess I had some small sliver of hope that he would eventually have to be held accountable. Maybe he will, but not by my parents.

This was long, sorry. Thanks if you read it.

Is this a newspaper clipping of a photo of a fender-bender?! Why would they have this on their fridge?!

Romantic Dinner Recs- One person Vegetarian One person Gluten Free

I am looking for recommendations in Paris for a nice romantic dinner for two, one person is vegetarian and one is gluten free. It seems that usually fine dining restaurants can only accommodate one or the other.

Any experience with the CARES harness?

I'll be flying with my toddler soon (she'll be 22 months) and I *really* don't want to bring the car seat. Has anyone used the CARES harness before in lieu of a car seat when flying? What was your experience like?

Car service between CDG and 17th that provides car seat?

I'm traveling to Paris with my almost 2 year old. I'm debating whether to bring her car seat, since I can use a harness for the plane, which is much more compact.

Is it possible to book car service to and from CDG and have them provide the car seat? Any recommendations?

Offered my part time nanny more work and now regret it

We have a part time nanny who comes a few evenings per week to help with the night routine for my toddler (19mo), plus a few hours on weekends here and there so we can get errands done.

When I originally hired her I asked if she was ok with irregular hours and she was totally fine and didn't need a set minimum number of hours. So some weeks she comes one night, some three nights (depending on my work schedule).

My work picked up intensity and I asked her how she would feel about adding extra hours + extra duties (cooking + cleaning dishes) for a 25% raise. She agreed.

I am not happy with the results, particularly the cleaning. On top of this she's asking for additional money. I pay her $50/hour which I think is a lot already.

What should I do?

Long term academic outcomes of forest school?

My daughter is still a toddler, but I've been keeping an eye on our local school situation. We live in an ok district with decent public schools (in the US). I've been looking into private schools and we have 2 forest school options nearby.

Forest school sounds very appealing to me, but I am having a hard time finding unbiased sources on the long-term effects.

I grew up in a very academically demanding household and struggled with anxiety and depression as a result. At the same time, I benefited a lot from the academic rigor and was able to go to a top university and get into a very good career.

For those who sent your kids to Forest School, are you happy with that choice? What impact did it have on their academic prospects and well-being long-term?

Thanks

Advice regarding short trip to Nice while mainly staying in Paris

I'm planning a 2-week stay in Paris this summer for myself, my husband, and our 2-year-old.

We have a family property just outside Nice that I would like to check on during the trip, but I'm not sure what the best plan is. Some questions:

  1. Should I bother to bring my family or would it be best to just do it solo? I think that I can get away with just spending one night in Nice.

  2. What is the best way to get down there? Flight? Tgv? Does the answer change depending on whether I'm bringing my child?

  3. Any recommendations for an ok but not too expensive hotel in Nice?

  4. The property is about 15 minutes by train from Nice and then walkable from the station. But in the interest of efficiency, would it be best to just get a car? Or perhaps hire a taxi?

Thanks!

Husband is shy

We have an 18mo girl who seems to be developing some awareness of needing to go (yelling "poo" while pooping).

We're both exhausted by diapers (she has started trying to "help") but we are at a disagreement about modeling potty behavior.

When I was growing up, adults brought us into the bathroom while they were using it, which helped us get the concept quickly imo. I'd like to do the same with my daughter but my husband really doesn't want her (or anyone else) in the bathroom with him, ever.

Everything I read is in agreement with my position, but this is a mental block on his part that no amount of reasoning seems able to sway.

Can we succeed without him modeling potty behavior for her? Will it take longer?

Thought I was ok with oad but then a coworker announced their second kid

I am blessed with a perfect 18mo girl. The pregnancy was terrible (hyperemesis gravidarum but luckily no other complications) and my husband and I decided to be OAD.

At the time, it made sense. We work very demanding jobs in competitive fields. We want to be present parents and we want to provide a good life for our daughter.

Sometimes I feel a twinge of nostalgia for the early days, and I love seeing babies when we are out and about. But I really thought that I was okay with one and done.

Then a week ago a co-worker announced that he's going on paternity leave later this summer. He already has a son who is a bit older than my daughter. I remember that his wife had a very easy, unmedicated birth and no problems during her pregnancy.

Later that night, I cried. I think there's a mix of emotions at play. I'm jealous that his career will not be impacted as much as mine would be from this child, I'm jealous that his wife has an easy time creating children, and I'm jealous that it was a no-brainer to him to have a second kid.

I don't know how to interpret these emotions. Does this mean that I want another kid? Or am I just envious that it's an easier choice for others? Am I still processing the trauma from my difficult pregnancy?

Your 1.5yo is eating dinner. It's pasta night and even though they've just started eating, tomato sauce is everywhere, all over their hands and face and smock.

They look at you, lean forward, grunt, and then urgently say "poopoo!"

Would you:

A. Attempt a diaper change

B. Wait until they're done eating (potentially 30 minutes!)

My husband and I honestly cannot agree on what we should have done here.

I bought a package of flour tortillas from a brand I've never purchased before. They are incredibly stuck together in the middle. No amount of gentle peeling will get them apart without ripping.

  1. Can they be salvaged at all?

  2. If not, what should I do with them?
