Seeking a mat for underneath the grill

I’d like to place a mat underneath my grill because I have a brand new concrete patio. I’ve been looking online but all the mats I see appear flimsy and thin—I imagine them flopping around in the wind.

Anyone have a recommendation for a solid, sturdy non-foldable mat?

Seriously good: St. Steve’s (Michigan)

Found this at Bicyle Bottle Shop in Buffalo, New York.

St. Steve’s Root Beer is admittedly a tad flat, but brings a serious wow factor in the flavor. They use some unique ingredients like beetroot and fenugreek, so while the overarching profile of this is assuredly a root beer, it has a less-sweet, more zesty, yet more earthy flavor to it than most root beers.

Not gonna lie, this one veers of course from traditional root beers so if you’re a traditionalist you may not dig this, but I’m really loving it.

Good Gift Ideas For Retiring Board Members?

We have a couple board members retiring this year and we need to get them some gifts. We always do lame things like an engraved clock or something. I'm smart enough to know I don't like that for a gift, but not smart enough to come up with new ideas.

How do you guys do it?

Locals: more speed traps than usual?

I live in Rochester but have spent many years driving around the lakes a couple times a month. Today I was done around Seneca and I saw more police cars parked doing speed monitoring than I’ve ever seen like in a full year combined.

On the east side of the lake between Geneva and Watkins Glen I see at least seven cops.

Is there a new campaign or am I just noticing things differently?

How Strictly Do Bylaws Govern?

BACKGROUND

I'm E.D. for an organization founded in 1945. We are very, very small (1 FT Employee and 3 PT employees) and serve a niche community primarily in the U.S., but also have a presence in a few other countries.

Our President wanted to update our Bylaws, in part because they're so old that many of our current practices have been updated to meet the modern era, and she felt that our Bylaws should match our operations. (For example, our Bylaws state that we'll mail membership dues rates out to members so they can be aware of the cost, but we just publish them on our website now and don't mail things anymore.)

She and I spent the last 8 months working on them, rewriting, and having the rest of the Board provide input.

PROBLEM

We sent our draft to law firm that we work with on occasion when needed for review, and any legal edits that might be needed.

We got back a complete re-write/overhaul of our entire Bylaws that in many cases refers to things we don't do at all. (For example, it states that I can hire Executive suite employees, but we don't have any, likely never will, and if we did we'd want Board input.) It no longer matches our organization's language, messaging, or even the standard visual layout of our documents.

QUESTION

So, how serious is it if our Bylaws don't exactly match what we're doing? If there are things in our older document that we're not really doing exactly the way it's stated, is that a major problem? And, if we were to adopt the new Bylaws the legal firm wrote, does it matter that some of the language and structure doesn't really apply to our operations in any way?

Tabora Winery now has their own nonalcoholic wine

The Cuveé Sans is a blend of Riesling, Cayuga White, and Aurore grapes, so it is a still, semi-dry white wine. Retails for $18 a bottle at the winery, but you ca ln also get a glass on site, or a mocktail using it as an ingredient.

This is the first winery in the Finger Lakes to release a nonalcoholic wine, so it’s pretty exciting!

Dang! Italian Cherry Soda

Since it’s an Italian soda I was kind of hoping it’d lean more bitter than sweet, but it was still pretty good!

Point Premium

Honestly, it’s about as standard as the label. It’s good, but that’s it.

What variety of mint?

I have this mint growing in my yard. I know there are tons of varieties. Is there an easy way to tell which one this is?

Seeking Advice from Other Orgs with Memberships--specifically Life Memberships

I'm the E.D. at a small national nonprofit with a member database. We have annual dues paying members, but we also allow people to become a Life Member with one single lump sum.

In our CRM, we now have hundreds of these Life Members going back decades. Many are deceased, so I've marked them as such, and switched them over to "Do Not Contact". However, their membership remains active.

I've been thinking that I might start setting an expiration to their Life Membership as the day they passed (or at least the day that we learned of their passing) so their membership is no longer active in the system.

(I do not want to delete them entirely or the membership record because I want a history to look back on and reference if need be.)

Is there any downside to my plan??

City tax bill goes to Binghamton??

Just got my tax bill from the city, and all the addresses indicate it should be mailed to Binghamton. I figured maybe it was a typo, but it’s on the bill itself, too.

Anyone know why Binghamton is collecting our city taxes this year?

What would you do? (City)

The city came to my street and fixed a bunch of potholes about 4 weeks ago. They left this sign at the corner.

My neighbor has called 311 twice and I drove over to a crew working in another part of the neighborhood to ask if they’d come pick it up. That was over a week ago.

How do we get rid of this thing??

Rate my stack

(If you follow the supplement world, people call their supplement regimen a “stack”. They’ll often post a picture of all the supplements they’re on and ask for feedback. It made me think of my pickle regimen.)
