Peak Week Pains

Anyone in the last stretches of marathon peak week and getting the aches and niggles and mental doubts? I’m almost ready for it all to be over! It feels like I’m one step away from a prohibitive injury lol. Looking for some camaraderie

Image feels off and I can’t tell why

Hoping someone can help here. I have a four year old Bravia TV, and something’s changed recently where content looks off. It’s not the soap opera effect, but in older movies (i saw star wars episode 2 for example) the characters seem too clear. The movement is fine but the characters seem much clearer than the background, and it’s rather distracting.

I tried taking off reality creation, cinemotion, and motionflow completely and even put sharpeness to 0 and no major effect. I’ve also noticed this on newer stuff like HBO’s lanterns show. All on the cinema preset before I customized any settings.

Any ideas on what’s going on? Sorry i know this sounds a bit vague but I don’t know how else to describe it.

Camera and Door Unlock Issues - 12V issue

Hi all. I have a 2020 Bolt EV I bought used, and not sure if the 12V was changed since it was out of the factory. I've had very sparse back camera blackouts in the past (maybe like 1-2 a year, quickly resolved). Now, it's persistent, front also doesn't work, but it's not a camera hardware malfunction, but it shows a messed up version of the image itself. In addition, when driving the doors intermittently unlock themselves.

Is it worth going through the hassle of checking the 12V battery power at a shop, or taking it to a dealership? Or would you just change the 12V and then reassess? Especially given the 12V could realistically be 6+ years old at this point.

My wife’s brother has a shellfish allergy, and said he had it later in life because they didn’t grow up as “shellfish people”

And I replied: true, you’re all pretty generous.

70mm on film is clearer than digital-to-film transfer?

I’ve been trying to understand the differences between ”The Odyssey” and it’s 15/70 direct filming, compared to a film that was filmed digitally and then printed onto 15/70 film. To me, the former seems very clear, and the latter did not have that clarity. However, when reading people’s impression of a film like “Project Hail Mary,“ many mentioned how clear and amazing the 15/70 was. It makes sense to me that Nolan’s method actually captures all that data, and shows it to us, so the clarity is unmatched, whereas a digital film put onto stock and displayed on a huge IMAX screen will still lose some clarity as a result, giving a warm, fuzzier texture but not the crisp clarity “The Odyssey” had. Am i thinking correctly? Or is there something with the digital-to-film process that I’m missing?

PHM compared to Odyssey: IMAX clarity

Seeing “The Odyssey” on 70mm IMAX at Lincoln Square, I was amazed at the clarity, the brightness and crispness, and just the experience of the film. And this was heightened by the fact that I thought “Project Hail Mary” on the same screen, same 70mm IMAX, felt fuzzy and dark. Was this because PHM was printed onto film from a 4K digital source? Whereas odyssey was straight from the imax 70mm? Or was I just not seeing something in PHM that it seemed everyone else was wowed by?

NY Times Talks to Wilson About “The Odyssey”

I know the Wilson translation is controversial - but as a layperson, I find it so much more enjoyable to read than the Fables one I tried before. The story feels accessible and fun. Thought the above interview with her would be of interest.

2K for 2K

What a nice family event! I hope NYRR does more of these. It was a nice atmosphere, more relaxed, and the mayor even showed up!

Planning to see a game, but pricing on site is nuts. I was thinking of parking near Walnut-Locust and taking the B line down to NRG. Not sure of the area - is it a feasible location (ex safety etc) to come back to after the game in the late evening?

Hi all. I let the lawn get too rowdy before winter came in, and with all the rain, it’s a lot for us to handle ourselves, in terms of mowing and removing the leaves and dead weeds etc. Anyone have recs for someone affordable who could do one-time lawn care work?
