Fireworks laws in Omaha

A few friendly reminders going into this weekend:

Fireworks can be set off in Omaha from Thursday, July 2 through Saturday, July 4 only, from noon to 11 p.m. daily.

  • Those handling fireworks must be 16 years or older.
  • Those between the ages of 12 and 15 can discharge fireworks under the supervision of an adult 19 or older.
  • M-80s and wire sparklers are strictly prohibited.
  • Out-of-state fireworks are not allowed.
  • Flying lanterns are prohibited from sale, possession, and use.
  • Rockets on a stick, such as bottle rockets, are permitted for purchase as long as they are labeled as a 1.4G product.
  • Only 1.4G fireworks may be sold at retail in the state.

Enforcement, fines, and reporting complaints

Omaha police will have officers dedicated entirely to responding to fireworks complaints every day during the season. Because violating the city’s rules is a criminal offense, OPD says officers can arrest violators.

If you are caught breaking the rules, you could face a ticket and a fine for each conviction:

  • First offense: A $300.00 fine
  • Second offense: A $400.00 fine
  • Third and any later offenses: A $500.00 fine

Do not call 911 unless there is immediate danger to life, safety, or property due to firework use. Complaints should be directed to OPD’s non-emergency number at 402-444-5802.

Seniors Still Creating Top Notch Music

With the release of the masterful "Boys of Dungeon Lane", Paul McCartney has show once again - at the age of 83 - that he still has the songwriting chops.

This reminded me of Ian Hunter (now 87) who has put out consistently fresh albums recently at 84 and 85.

What other artists are still creating fresh and innovative work despite their advanced age?

Shipments in limbo

I ordered 2 mirrors and they both seem to be stuck in shipping hell. They were ordered on May 7th. I was disappointed to find after ordering that they were coming from Turkey via FedEx.

As it stands now, one mirror has been sitting in Memphis since May 13th and the other has been stuck in France since May 12th. Delivery was promised May 11-18.

At this point, do I demand a refund? Wait it out? Call Fed Ex? It appears the seller did everything right, I just didn't expect this ridiculous delay.

Dropped some clothes into a Clothing Donation box. Only after was I disappointed to read the sign that said "Some of the proceeds go to various charities"?

Some? Where does the rest go and who's profiting?
