The Backrooms are inescapable. Unless you have Thor's hammer. Try it in "Backrooms Break"

[Steam Link] - Explore and break the environments of the Backrooms! Utilize Thor's demolition hammer, firearms, and explosives to carve your way through the walls and entities. This isn't just another mundane walking simulator game. Now the entities are the victims. Overcome your fears with violence.

What it would be like to have the HL2 crossbow in the Backrooms

My attempt at recreating d2_coast_05 in Unreal Engine 5 - final version with color and feel improvements based on your feedback. Thank you!

- the characters models, energy shield stands and the billboard are taken from HL:Alyx

- the enemy models were rigged and weight painted by my 3d character artist gf, thank you V.

- the movement controller is HL2 Project Borealis PBCharacterMovement

- the red shed was modeled by me (ignore the bad UVs)

- the explosions, accurate sound propagation (notice the delayed audio at distance), Chaos destruction of walls, and throwing crowbar mechanic are from my main game, Backrooms Break

- thank you everybody for the color correction suggestions! I've also added proper power lines, more green everywhere, actual moss, moved the fog to 50 meters away, sky is blue like the original, the ugly sniper was replaced with an actual crossbow shooting bolts.

My weekend progress in remaking the d2_coast_05 in Unreal Engine 5:

the gray zones is a blockout from the original map, combine soldiers and Olga are scraped models with slightly fucked up weight paints (ragdoll looks weird), everything else is custom

Can you guess which Half-Life 2 level I am remaking to Unreal Engine 5 this weekend:

I am bored and that is my favorite level (hint: the weapon is different than what you pick up here)

I will report in a few days when it looks good.

Anyway, give me tips on how to make the level more interesting. So far I have this:
- I can throw the crowbar
- The sniper is silenced and the bullet travel path is nice and long, so you have to predict soldier movement same as with the crossbow

is there some mod that exposes the game API to handle events like shooting, getting hit etc?

I have an idea to create a force feedback for a gamepad/MX4 mouse. Each time you get hit or hit somebody, it should vibrate.

Until now I created a sort of a screenshotter that analyzes the kill feed from game screenshots, and when new damage shows up, it sends a haptic vibration to my MX4 mouse. But this is very unreliable, because the yolo detector I have doing the OCR on the damage numbers is faulty, I am not a neural net guy at all.

But I might be able to code some mods that expose the game functions, if there are none.

If there is a mod like what I need already, are you using them for something?

For the portrait of Gordon, she used a programmable sewing machine to 'print' the design. The orange logos are hand-sewn.
