If you buy a lot of perfumes, is it better to go for discounters or Diptyque online? Are there any perks to buying everything through Diptyque?

No physical store in my area unfortunately, so I'd have to go online. I usually get my fragrances from Jomashop but I love a good GWP. Does Diptyque regularly offer limited edition/GWP/mini fragrance type gifts, or better gifts if you spend more with diptyque online?

I think there is a good chance I'd also go for holiday/limited edition releases and trinkets (I really want the black shell pocket mirror that is online rn) as well, but not so much into candles.

Sydney Grace swatches on cool to neutral, light to med olive skin

Fell into the classic trap of ordering 8 taupe shades, whoops! Hope my mistake helps you choose the right one for you. I have cool to neutral undertones (the wintertime green ghost) and golden overtones. I do best in grey-taupe, dark charcoal, and slate blue clothing, so I think I’m muted.

First is outdoor in bright direct light and second is indoor in bright indirect diffused light.

In order:
My Savior Light
Sunnyvale
Speedway
Moon Landing
Concrete Road
Nitro
Bonfire
Enjoy the Ride
Stellar
Sea Otter
Beyond

Formula: everyone is right! The matte formula is gorgeous, pigmented, and buttery smooth. My favorite formula and shade is concrete road.

Surprisingly similar on me:
Concrete road pulled purple (???) and was similar to stellar to my eyes, but stellar has a slightly worse formula.

Disappointments:
My savior light was just way too light for me. It’s a good transition shade but I even think it’s too light for that on me. I’ll use it for blending out colors for a whimsical look.

Viseart Violette Luminere palette swatches on neutral to cool muted olive skin

I love this palette! Some of the shimmers and mattes are definitely not as pigmented as others, I was disappointed in the 3 mattes on the bottom and the two on top for needing to be built up a little (gave up on the last one lol).

Believe I’m a neutral muted olive, light to medium, leaning cool but with slightly warm overtones. Armani shade 5.3 is my match and Natasha Denoma Hy-Glam N7. I usually go for dusty taupe, griege, and purples on my eyes.

ETA:

Petaline - cool nude pink
Orchidee - shimmery petal pink
Amethyste - warm bronze taupe
Taupeline - cool taupe grey
Lilase - muted cool lilac
Violine - deep violet
Opaline - blue-magenta shimmer
Ipomee - pink-violet shimmer
Prisme - rose-mauve shimmer
Sureau - smoky lilac grey
Charoite - cool stone taupe
Prunelle - elderberry purple-brown

Your best moisturizer without actives for trentinoin in 2026?

Looking for your favorite skin barrier support moisturizer! I am readjusting to trentinoin after extended break from skin care.

I’ve tried the illiyoon lotion (not cream) but it leaves me feeling waxy, and I noticed that Aestura has niacinamide which is already in my daytime sunscreen (EltaMD). I used to use vanicream in the tub with tret at night, but wanted to know if there is a more lux or newer option.

First manicure after quitting a lifetime of nail biting!

I’m so proud! In mid June I (31f) had picked my nails down below my nail beds and I got tired of bleeding from my hands. I quit nail picking and my nails are finally recovered enough for a manicure!

The color is Coffee Break by ILNP, with Sally Hansen base coat and Seche Vite on top. They have so many muted neutral shades that look awesome on my cool olive skin!

What designer fragrances would I like?

I like Burberry Goddess and Paradoxe Intense so far! Looking for 10ml travel sizes to add to my Jomashop and Sephora orders.

REALISTIC rose scent?

I'm looking for the smell of the nearly fruity, ultra fragrant, sweet roses that almost smell like peaches or raspberry. I'm specifically thinking of the Huntington Rose Garden midday in June when just walking by you catch a bright and sweet whiff. That is literally my favorite scent and my favorite place. I moved away 5 years ago and miss it so much.

I've tried:

Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady: something too sharp, I really didn't like this one at all.
Byredo Rose of No Man's Land: this was kind of close, but not really what I was looking for, it is too... earthy? deep?
Frederic Malle Rose Tonnerre: I LOVED this one until something in it smelled like a waxy texture on my skin. I think it was the coriander/orris, I do NOT like iris or orris in fragrances, that is a big no for me.
Le Labo Rose 31: I loved this one as well until the cumin turned off-smelling on me. As far as roses go it wasn't what I was looking for, and the longevity was abysmal (I'm talking 30min-1h or so). I'd still say it was the best of the bunch because it was kind of a sultry rose, but i'm hoping for something brighter.
PDM Delina Exclusif: Sounded lovely but just not perfectly what I'm looking for, I think it was the incense or oud, or it just wasn't bright enough.

I have Diptyque Eau Rose on my list to sample, any others I should add? No budget.

Guerlain: what do you own, what did you sample, what were your impressions?

Initially wasn’t the biggest Guerlain fan, but I’m growing to love the house. I just impulsively grabbed bottles of Cuir Beluga and Spiriteuse Double Vanille, so I guess I’m certified. My other favorite houses by FB count are Hermes and MFK.

Cuir Beluga: Initially, I didn’t like this one at all. It was too dry, too smooth to notice much, it was one of the first perfumes I ever samples. As I sampled more and more fragrances the memory stuck with me and I fell in love on third wear. So creamy, smooth, sophisticated, assertive, confident. This is one of my rich bitch frags. 9.5/10

Spiriteuse Double Vanille: Finally, THIS is my vanilla! I thought from other descriptions it would be too single- note, but it’s beautifully blended and multidimensional vanilla from clean to deep. 9.5/10

Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21: So beautiful and light, floral vanilla for summer for you vanilla queens. Unfortunately it is just OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for a 50ml at ~$660, I could never spring for it when there are so many other summer vanilla options. 7/10 for fragrance and 3/10 for fragrance:price.

Angelique Noire: I was so excited for this one. I got a bright medicinal green opening, and the medicinal aspect was really too much for me. I could see the vision and the hype, the contrast with the driest vanilla was objectively beautiful but unfortunately this was a scrubber because of the medicinal note. I'm just really sensitive to it, but it's gorgeous and creative. 5/10 for creativity but 3/10 for me personally.

Jasmin Bonheur: Lovely, light jasmine, but a bit too light and plain for me. I could picture wearing this in the summer with a sundress, maybe for brunch. Gorgeous but not full bottle worthy for me. 5/10

Mon Guerlain: Lovely, fresh lavender or another floral on the opening that transitioned into a lighter breath of vanilla on the ending. Reminded me of Burberry Goddess but more refined and less sweet on drydown; however, for some reason, I did prefer Burberry Goddess. 6.5/10

Mon Guerlain Intense: LOVELY! This one, just like Mon Guerlain to me but each note is dialed up a notch, and the vanilla is a tad sweeter. This one, I liked better than Burberry Goddess (though I am comparing an intense to the OG). Full bottle eventually if I find a good deal. 8.5/10

Curious to hear yours! What was worth it, what wasn't worth it, what disappointed you, what surprised you?

What’s your morning routine?

I’m trying to start waking up early at 5 to do some yoga before I have to get into work at 8. i’m even considering starting to run. I’m trying to quit drinking and today’s day 1. I figured a healthy routine could help.

Just curious what time you wake up and what your workout routine is, if you work out in the morning at all! Does anybody prefer working out at night?

I don’t typically like gourmands but I want to explore! Recommendations for the gourmand-shy?

I’m looking to find something delicious and exciting to build out my next sample order! I don’t think I’d ever enjoy syrupy sweet or sweetness without any complexity, and am sensitive to medicinal scents, but otherwise looking to try something new!

I loved Burberry goddess and have that in my want list! I didn’t like Angel or Alien, but I’m interested in sampling Alien Goddess. My husband gives me a 15/sample a month quota so help me fill my cart please!

What’s your bedtime scent?

I just found the big bottle of Philosophy Pure Grace at TJ Maxx for 19.99 and omg it’s so cheap I could smell like this every night for the next year. Curious to hear others!

What Diptyque, Chanel, or Guerlain fragrances should I try on vacation based on my collection?

Finally visiting a bigger city and getting to stop by these stores to do some shopping!

My full size bottles:

Liis Bo
MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold
Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
d’Annam Monsoon Tea
Hermes Sur Le Nil
Hermes Sur La Lagune
Wulong Cha
Chloe Nomade
Musc Nude
Musc Noir Rose
Flowerbomb

I am open to trying most anything! I don’t love fragrances that smell or drydown particularly sweet or syrupy and don’t love sharp or medicinal notes (looking at the Angelica in Angelique Noire). I saved for a 1k total budget to shop with so I can get a few! I also prefer to spend $ on longer-lasting fragrances though I know some notes are less likely to last.

Much appreciate any recs 💝

What’s your price to longevity requirement? What were your disappointments and surprises?

For me, if I’m spending $300+ on a full bottle, I expect 6 hours minimum of wear. Hermes Sur La Nil (although cheaper) and MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold met my minimum of 6 hours. But GFG is so expensive that I’m hesitating.

I was surprised by how much I loved Hermes Sur La Lagune given the mixed reviews, and it lasts absolutely forever on me (7-8h). It works so well with my skin chemistry.

I was heartbroken by Armani The Yulong, it’s gorgeous, but at $200ish, the performance was abysmal at 3-4 hours. Wulong Cha wasn’t my cup of tea.

For under $200, I’m okay with 5-6 hours, but I probably wouldn’t rush to buy it.

I’m personally just not interested in short lived fragrances and I’m a perfectionist (I only buy 9/10 and above fragrances), but did anything absolutely amaze you where you’d spend the $$ despite the longevity? Are there any special use cases where longevity isn’t important to you?

For my dark wardrobe girlies! This pattern is so underrated!

The vintage version of this pattern goes with absolutely everything! I love the bright colors but I just don’t wear them and worry about getting them dirty so this is PERFECT for me 💙

New to fragrances and looking for a work fragrance! Recommendations?

ChatGPT sucks at recommendations. I want something that people can smell and ask me what I’m wearing or give compliments lol. I like the expensive smelling ones and I’m looking for a work fragrance. No budget! I’m 31F and husband says I naturally have sort of a pear/petrichor smelling skin.

I have:
Flowerbomb — my main one for a few years but it’s feeling a bit much for work! I get some vanilla or sweetness which I don’t really love anymore. It’s good for dates or going out but not my everyday.
Nemat amber — I like this one but don’t LOVE it.

I’ve tried:
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle — dry down was too generic and powdery for me, initially too old for me
Radiant Nectar — too honey forward and didn’t smell like much else, and didn’t last long.
Glossier You — smelled ok at first and I was hopeful to really like it but the chemical scent gave me a headache.
Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue — I absolutely loved this one at first but it faded more quickly and dry down was too generic smelling for me.
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre — dry down was too powdery for me. I don’t like powdery.
Another 13 —too chemically on me for some reason
Thierry mugler alien: I absolutely gag at this scent.

Curious about:
Hermes gardin sur la nil

Thank you so much for your help!!

3 weeks on cymbalta saved my life

I feel like I got what I wanted and cried and cried for after 31 years of life— to be born inside someone else’s brain. I have treated my depression with severe alcohol abuse, cannabis use, and years ago other drugs.

I have had severe persistent depression and was first diagnosed at 9 years old by a child psychiatrist. I’ve felt nothing but grey, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, a constant negative chatter in my mind that I just wanted to escape by ending it all. I was drowning in self flaggelation for minor mistakes I made that day, months, or years ago, unable to truly enjoy anything.

I thought meds were for the weak. I was so despearate I trialled cymbalta about a month ago and have been at the therapeutic dose for 3 weeks. As someone with GAD, depression, and chronic pain, my psych wanted to try this first. It turns out it truly was a chemical imbalance. I DONT HAVE THE NEGATIVE CHATTER ANYMORE. I feel like a NORMAL HUMAN. I’m actually HAPPY when I wake up and overwhelmed with relief to be free of my mind. I feel like I was reborn not to be dramatic.

I’m posting here because I just can’t believe it. I know it’s early and I’m certain I’m an early responder. This could never happen by placebo, my mood was so terrible. I’ve been able to naturally quit drinking and smoking weed entirely.

I’m just sharing for some hope. I’m so grateful I swallowed my ego and got help, therapy and medication. I’m shocked and overwhelmed with relief.
