Recent “under review” EI application turnaround times? (In Nova Scotia)

I understand they can vary depending on workloads at Service Canada, seasonal work and that sort of thing too.

Has anyone applied/received a decision in the last week or two?

I’m in rural NS if that makes any difference.

Circa 66 shows, particularly on Apple Music?

Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, CA (7/3/66)

Casual fan just starting down this particular rabbit hole, shows like this one are the absolute sweet spot for me. Heavy organ riffs, hippie boogie, as if Booker T & The MG’s hit the West Coast & got turned on.

I’m looking for “release quality” live sound, totally dig the completist vibe some of y’all have but I’m just not there. Yet ;-)

(Apologies for the pedestrian question, there’s just such a staggering amount of stuff to get through out there, and the various streaming services aren’t easy to search by date.)

Handed a $20 (CAD) bill to a pretty clearly mentally ill, drug involved likely homeless person.

Impulsive decision on my part, alcohol was a factor. I’m well aware of various local social service agencies I might have otherwise donated to.

They were literally picking cigarette butts up from the parking lot of a bar. Made me feel *Virtuous* for about three seconds, now thinking up various scenarios where twenty bucks is enough for them to do some real damage to themselves, fentanyl and all that. Hoping they just got a proper pack of smokes.

ELI5- The Fender Stratocaster intellectual property lawsuit and actions against other guitar manufacturers?

Enthusiastic amateur musician so I guess I have a little skin in this game.

Absolutely at a loss for what’s really at stake here though.

Manufacturers other than Fender have made Stratocaster style body guitars for decades. The same goes for maybe half a dozen other electric guitar body shapes (SG, LP, Telecaster, P-Bass, etc…) that might account for half the guitars out there.

Aside from outright counterfeit branding this does not appear to have been a legal matter until now.

Even the Martin Dreadnought acoustic body shape is so common that most non-guitarists would consider it the “standard” acoustic guitar body today.

Apparently part of what’s being debated is whether the Stratocaster guitar body is a manufactured product or a work of art?

Lots to unpack here, suppose I haven’t really got a specific question so much as I want a general background on the “intellectual property” involved.

How does this “survivorship bias” meme apply to AI & social media feeds?

I get the point of the original airplane damage illustration, in fact I remember finding it quite instructive when I first came across it.

At a loss for the meme’s point about AI & social media feeds.

Something to do with AI content appearing increasingly “authentic” maybe?

Not a particularly IT savvy fella myself, you won’t hurt my feelings if you explain it to me like I’m five years old.

Thanks.

50m, never owned/used an electric razor, what’s the appeal?

Tend to like a close shave, currently use a Gillette Fusion multi blade thing. Blades have been pricey for a while, looking at other options.

Not looking to spend much. What are some pros and cons?

The math doesn’t quite work out as cents per litre, but we can dream.

Regular self-serve locally hovering around $1.75CAD/Litre, versus a little under $5 for a ~500ml tall can of craft beer from this fine establishment.

$10/L might actually impact motorist behaviour, and I got a mild chuckle out of the sign.

(Burnside Oak Manor Tap Room, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Pleasantly walkable stretch of Main Street in a university town, I’d suggest the Queen Bee Honey Brown Lager if you’re in the vicinity.)

Here’s to a full bar & an empty parking lot, cheers!

Advice for the Bass Guitar novice?

Amateur guitarist/drummer with a background playing in (very small time) local indie/punk combos.

Recently acquired a bass guitar, also recently immersing myself in listening to more Dub/Reggae/Trip-Hop, etc...

Think Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Mad Professor, Sly & Robbie, Tricky, The Thievery Corporation, a few more in that ballpark. Dig lots older Rocksteady Trojan Records type stuff too, but looking to play the slower grooves. For now at least.

Not necessarily looking to start anything like those sorts of bands, just looking to pick up what insights I can from those sorts of bassists.

Maybe similar in spirit to what The Clash once did, although not necessarily looking to sound like Paul Simonon.

Aside from just looking up tabs/charts and learning actual bass-lines from folks like that…

*What are some Dub/Reggae bass fundamentals I should try to keep in mind?*

Assume I’ve got a basic knowledge of scales & time signatures, plenty of time on punk/rock rhythm guitar and drums. I’m just not getting hired on as a studio/touring session man anytime soon.

One thing I’ve been doing as an early practice/exercise on bass is “Stand by Me”, having that nailed maybe 85% of the time should give you a sense of my skill level. Could read tabs if anyone linked/posted them but (to my shame) not actual sheet music or charts.

Maybe if this were fifty years ago, after a few months I’d be trying to push my demo tapes on Don Letts & leaving his name at the door for gigs ;-)

Any help, suggestions and advice at all goes much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hummingbird pick guard graphic as tattoo question.

Where could I find info about the design, artist, and their history? Googling hasn’t quite done the job.

How expensive are/were acetate Dub Plates?

When sound system DJ’s played acetate Dub Plates alongside their vinyl, just how rare/difficult to acquire/expensive were they?

Also, I understand the Dub Plates could degrade quickly from playing. How many plays could you typically get out of one? A few dozen?

Name and location of church from YouTube video?

Location popped up in a video (Why was Nova Scotia left behind?) which I’ll link to below. Pretty sure I know it but just can’t place it. Possibly Dartmouth?

Any help appreciated, thanks.
