What’s something we did that others don’t believe?

What is something that used to occur or that we did, that you told a younger generation and they were blown away? I’ll start

Happy hour gave out free food. You could go to any place and they would have free food for you during happy hour and they changed what they served every day.

I told a 20 something this and she must have asked for clarification 3 times, “You mean the food was free? “

Corsair Mouse Button Control - Is this an option?

I do not think SignalRGB can map the Corsair mouse buttons.

I really dont want to run iQue all the time. But is it really no nig deal to run it with Signal RGB? Can you turn off all the RGB functions so that it pretty "lightweight" when running and use it jsut to map the mouse buttons?

Are there alternatives that people have used like this

https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/xmousebuttoncontrol.htm

Anyone confirmed functionality?

You were laid off, fired, etc. Early Retired isn’t always a happy Title

Many Gen Xers are struggling with unemployment right now, and this retirement statistic hit me hard.

Gen X is generally defined as people born from 1965 to 1980, which means the oldest Gen Xers are now around 60 and the youngest are in their mid-40s. Many of us are in that difficult window where we are considered “experienced,” but also know age can become a real factor in getting hired.

According to the 2026 EBRI Retirement Confidence Survey, nearly half of retirees, 46%, retired earlier than they planned. Of those, 76% said it was because of circumstances outside their control, such as health problems, layoffs, disability, or changes at work.

That matters for Gen X because many are planning to work longer to close retirement gaps. Transamerica found that fewer than 1 in 5 Gen X workers are very confident they will be able to fully retire comfortably, and 39% expect to retire at 70 or older or not retire at all.

So when people say, “Just work longer,” that may not be realistic for everyone. A lot of retirements are not fully voluntary. For many, the job market, health, or company decisions make the decision for them.

Estranged from your Parents - Did the Boomer Culture contribute?

For those of you who are estranged from your parents, or have a strained relationship with them, do you think the way they raised us contributed to where things stand now?

Before I criticize my parents, I do want to give them credit. Because they left me alone so much while they were working, I learned how to be alone. I had to entertain myself, figure things out, and become self-reliant. They lived very frugally, and seeing that made me want a different life, which gave me drive. They also were not always supportive of everything I did. They pointed out flaws and made me aware of how others might react or perceive things. Some of that was hard, but I can see how it shaped me in useful ways.

At the same time, I look at a lot of parents today and see a very different approach. There seems to be so much more care, concern, and emotional support. Parents are much more willing to jump in, help, reassure, and make sure their kids feel accepted no matter what.

Recently, some Gen X friends of mine bought their adult sonin law and daughter an “average” house in Southern California. In that area, average is around $1 million. He has not been able to find work, and he isn't really skilled she does not work, and they recently had two kids. They are typical millennials with champagne tastes. They had moved out of state because there was no realistic way for them to afford living in Southern California. But she was calling every night crying about how much she hated being out of state, so the parents stepped in and bought them a house.

I am not expecting my parents to buy me a house or even give me money. That is not really the point. But I am unemployed right now, and there is no emotional support either. Like a lot of Gen Xers, I feel like I am completely on my own. I'll admit I'm a bit jealous and envious. I wish they were my parents. Just like we have traits as a group, our parents' generation may have common traits too?

So I guess what I am wondering is this: do you think the way our parents raised us, even if they did the best they could with the knowledge and resources they had at the time, carries over into our adult relationships with them? And do you think that lack of emotional support is part of why some of us feel distant from them now?

Platitudes not working for this Gen Xer when it comes to unemployment

After most of my life with a great career, accomplishments, etc. I find myself unemployed and as a Senior Sales leader it’s been really difficult to find a job. It’s been months and I’ve never struggled like this. As a Gen X er, I remember always being tough, facing insurmountable odds, getting up when being knocked down.

As a Gen Xer I learned not to have a victim mentality. People try to tell me with advice but it rings hollow.

People say ageism is real. But I know plenty of people my age and older that are not unemployed.

When I don’t get a job after going 7 interviews because they pause the requisition, people say “that job wasn’t a good match and something better is waiting for you”. This is so hard to believe.

Yes, millions are unemployed, but exponentially more millions are not. It’s hard to not let this impact your self esteem.

The only thing that seems to counterbalance some of these platitude is that many who are employed say they are miserable, or living in fear waiting to be laid off or fired any day. Financial planners have also told me that upwards of 50 percent of their retired clients , didn’t choose it.

For those of you unemployed, I am so sorry. I really understand. I know what you are going through.

Career platitudes for the Unemployed - tired of them

Please suggest other groups

I've enjoyed this group and the friendship shown through the posts.

Are there other subreddits (groups on Reddit) you would recommend that you enjoy and have like minded people? By like minded I mean:

  • Older people like us as Reddit seems to be dominated with younger people. This is probably the most important one. I don't mind younger people, but they seem to have more of an issue with older people.
  • Not really looking to DM people as Its rare that people continue to do that and maintain friendships through that
  • I enjoy engaging and seeing friendships evolve through posts
  • Not looking to hookup with people and suspicious of people that post pictures or ask just to DM . I am wary that these are catfishing attempts.

Starting over in your 50s - friends

Rather than DMing only or requesting friends, was hopeful be could share our stories and be friends here. Any of you have to “start over”. Are you better off now that you did? Anyone going through it now and not feeling good about it .

I’ve had high level career and always successful. Never worried about losing my job. Then it happened to me and it’s been horrible. Feel like I may never get my trajectory going and have to start over.

Try Effects

For those that use light points , it would,be nice if you would let people try a paid effect for 10 minutes or so. It’s hard to judge how they will look on your videos.

Also, being able to sort by release date would be great. And when you click on an effect and go back, you got to start all over again from the beginning as it doesn’t save where you were last.

I believe you would sell more effects if you made these simple changes. Also videos shorts on effects. Not just game integrations. Have someone describing it and the inspiration, etc.

Is this 1:11 sec video too much to ask for as far as a free request?

I want to make this a desktop background for my computer monitor and was hoping Someone could do that. If its not appropriate for free, not sure how much I should pay for this. It looks ok when small. But when putting it on my extended desktop monitor with Lively, it gets blrry.

Currently unemployed and look at my monitor all day filling out applications and know this type of thing is frivolous.

For Future development and Those with LCD

I made these videos in mp4 and gif so that it loops and looks good. I thought some of you could use.

I have not purchased my Lian Li Universal Screen yet. My Goal would be to have SignalRGB controll all my effects but on the screen this video would constantly loop.

Maybe you guys can play around with it and maybe show a finished setup with it?

Ageism is Real - Hear this all the time

I hear that "Ageism is real" so often. I know people are trying to be supportive when they say this.

Its difficult to for me to find comfort in this as I see and interact with a lot of people in my age group or even older that are employed. Unemployment statistics (which are not always accurate ) indicate that there is not a meaningful greater number of people in this group that are unemployed.

Its really difficult not turning this inward on yourself.

Long Long way to go - for the men struggling here

Thought I would send this song to the men here that feel forgotten. Those that may have faced unemployment. Those that don’t feel young, but don’t feel old. Those that that didn’t choose their current situation.

“And it would seem that we've still got a long, long way to go
And I can't take it anymore”

This is how I feel. I was doing so good, until I wasn’t . Maybe you relate. Maybe you will take some comfort in that there is another that understands.

If your are outside the USA are you treated better

I find that in the USA, as you age you are treated worse and worse as you get older. Employers start thinking of ways to get rid of you, people start distancing themselves, younger people are more disrespectful.

Is it better in other countries? As you get older are you treated better and better? Or is this the same in every country?

If you have been laid off, and struggling to find work, especially if you were in leadership position, I would love to connect. It’s hard to find people who understand this. I feel like I am one of the only ones , so it would be nice to know that it’s not just me. Would love to start a group of people that can support each other.

Also wondering if it’s the men that take this harder than women?

Problem After Todays Update - Corsair LC100 Light Triangels

looks like there was an update today. My Corsair Light triangles LC100 stopped working. Triangles 1&2 light up. But the rest dont upon PC bootup.. After about 10 minutes the rest eventually light up without me touching a thing. This pattern is repeatable. Could it be that some plugin or driver is loading very slow? Or is this a bug tied to todays update? 2 pictures attached.
