My fiance and I are having to change our honeymoon after the news that El Niño will make Peru an unsafe and uncomfortable place to be for out november honeymoon. We are starting in Costa Rica and are now looking a new destination to follow Costa Rica.

We loved the idea of Peru for its food, the ability to immerse into culture without it feeling touristy, the diversity, the nature, and the people.

I am an anthropologist and shes an artist, perhaps that gives you a bit of an understanding of what we are looking for.

Could Grenada be a good choice for us?

Of course different sizes and techniques will have different price points, could you share some examples with me please?

My soon-to-be wife and I are heading to Peru for our honeymoon in November. I have done my fair share of backpacking and have always had a great time following locals tips and getting on buses with a flexible destination in mind, but my fiancee has not.

I am excited to do a backpacking-romantic hybrid trip, but I have to create more of a plan than I would have usually made for this type of trip, more so to ease her anxieties about traveling like this.

With that in mind, and with my insistance that I do not want to waste our trip being shepherded to touristy locations and missing out on meeting locals, and experiencing a more indepth Peru, what are some hidden gems in Peru which I can plan into my trip and give her the reassurance that we have a plan, even if its flexible?

Hello! I will be getting married in November of this year, 6 months from now (!!!) and we’re in the semi-start of the planning and organizing process.

Our friend recommended her wedding planner who she loves. We met with her and she’s lovely and we like her stuff, although I also feel she loads us with jargon when we ask questions and sometimes we feel like she’s avoiding answering certain budget related questions. She would be the equivalent of around 5k USD. That includes the discount she gave us for being recommended by a friend. She has 18 years experience in our town and has her own planning company.

On the other hand, my cousin is offering her services free. She lives a few hours away but is around fairly often, and would be even more if we chose to do it with her. She was a wedding planner in Italy for a few years before coming back to Mexico, but she still organizes wedding in Italy, in the US, she’s doing one in Bahamas etc. She’s very qualified. My concern is that she isn’t local, but she says it’s not a problem in her eyes. I have that doubt but I don’t know anything about weddings, but at least she would feel like I would have at least one person on my side in the seemingly shark infested waters that is the wedding industry.

So, what do y’all think? Is my cousin not being local and not knowing the suppliers as big as a problem as I think?
