A serious doubt. But who decides where to place a bgm in a movie and how loud it should be ? The Director ? Music Director ? Sound Designer ?Editor ? If Music Director(ARR or Ravi Basur) is way senior than director, will they get precedence ?
Also does having a big music director means that automatically you have to inject maximum music/bgm throughout the scenes ?

The point of my doubt is that these two movies could have been better if the bgm/sound department was better. Kattalan would have been barely watchable but Malayalamkunju could have been much more better. Especially when you hire a legend like AR Rahman for half of your budget and the film get blasted with BGM and Songs over the parts which required silence… I think it brought down the viewing experience by a lot.

Honestly i was shocked when i learned that Janardhanan and Kochin Haneefa were hardcore villains back in the day. It really showcased how great these actors were. We all talk about comedians becoming character actors but i think the reverse is much more difficult and needed to be more appreciated
