Small “affordable” towns in New England

Currently living in rural rundown NC and I absolutely hate it. My partner and I are debating moving to New England (I grew up in the PNW) no children but a few cats and dogs.

Is it possible to find a charming and historic smaller city/town in New England that’s relatively affordable, as in can purchase a decent home in the 400k range.

I’d love to be an hour or two from the coast if financially possible.

Thoughts on Vanilla Swirl?

I use to enjoy her videos when she was just starting out and recently came across her page again…almost didn’t recognize her anymore.

Anyone deal with adrenaline dumps?

I haven’t officially been diagnosed yet, but I’m currently wearing a Holter monitor after spending 6 hours in the ER while on vacation.

I woke up about an hour after falling asleep completely drenched in sweat, clammy, with my heart rate around 130 while lying down. I was having full body convulsions that I couldn’t control, and it was terrifying. I was so weak I had to use a wheelchair to get from my hotel room to the lobby.

The ER did bloodwork and everything came back normal. The doctor said he believes it’s either POTS or SVT. He also noticed my heart rate would jump from the 90s into the 120s and higher, then quickly drop back down. I told him it felt like my heart was double beating or skipping beats, but he said it wasn’t AFib. He said what I was feeling was premature beats as my heart was trying to catch up with the rapid changes in heart rate. He also thought the shaking was caused by an adrenaline dump.

Normally my heart rate is in the 80s while lying down, but when I stand my feet turn purple and my heart rate jumps anywhere from 110 to 160. (I’ve been having issues for months)

I’m following up with my primary care doctor, wearing the Holter monitor this week, and trying to get in with a cardiologist.

Has anyone else experienced adrenaline dumps with full body shaking like this, or had symptoms start while lying down? This has been one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had.

Took the RLA ready test without studying..should I take the real test?

I took the RLA ready test on a whim to gauge where I was at and received a 160. I’ve not studied, should I just go ahead and take the real test?

I passed Social Studied last month so I have three more subjects to go.

Dr thinking SVT….

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from people who have gone through a POTS evaluation.
I had a virtual appointment today for fast heart rate, palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, brain fog, and other symptoms. I brought up POTS because my symptoms seemed to match, but I explained I’m not trying to self diagnose I’m trying to figure out what’s going on
I’ve had issues for years, but recently my heart rate went up to 210 bpm (according to my watch) while bending down to put my dog’s leash on, and I passed out for a few seconds. Since then, I’ve been tracking my heart rate.
My doctor ordered blood work and a 7-day Holter monitor (which I’m thankful for), but she said she isn’t sure it’s POTS and is considering SVT or AFib.
The part I’m confused about is that my symptoms seem very position-related. After my appointment, I looked into SVT and saw that it can cause a fast heart rate but that it typically isn’t dependent on whether you’re standing or sitting. My log seems to show a strong pattern:
Sitting/lying down with my feet up: HR is usually in the 80s.
Standing and doing normal things (walking, making food, cleaning, changing the cat litter): HR goes to 110–145.
Sitting back down: it often drops back to the 80s within about a minute.
I also get dizziness, shortness of breath, brain fog, pounding heartbeat, and purple feet/toes when standing.
I’m waiting for the monitor and blood work results, but if those don’t show SVT/AFib and my doctor still doesn’t think POTS is possible, would you seek a second opinion or see someone who specializes in dysautonomia?

Childress couple looking to leave rural NC

My partner and I are thinking about leaving North Carolina and are looking for ideas on where we should consider moving.

There are a lot of things we’ve grown tired of here, including the politics, religious culture, extreme heat, bugs, snakes, and some of the issues around animal welfare. We’re looking for somewhere that feels like a better fit for us.

We’d prefer somewhere on the East Coast, (New England, Delaware, or maybe Pennsylvania.) We like quiet, slower paced areas but still want to be within about 30 to 40 minutes of a larger city for restaurants, shopping, healthcare, and things to do.

Being within an hour or two of the coast would be a dream, but with a home budget around $400k I’m not sure how realistic that is. We’d like somewhere with true four seasons, less intense summers, fewer bugs, and lower crime.

Does anyone have recommendations for places we should look into? We’d love to hear from people who have moved from rural NC or who know the areas well.

Was there anything you said or did that helped your primary doctor help take your concern about having POTS seriously?

I’m seeing a new primary doctor this month and have serious concerns that I have POTS. My last doctor told me it was all anxiety and wanted to push multiple anxiety medications on me without any testing or listening to me.

I’ve always had a lot of health issues but since moving to a humid southern state a few years ago my symptoms have worsened drastically which led to doing a ton of research on my own and POTS seems to explain all my symptoms.

I was debating if should journal my heart rate the week before I go in? I keep track of it on my watch. Typically it’ll be in the 80s when sitting. The second I stand up and walk even to my kitchen it’s in the low to mid 100s. The second I try to do anything (sweeping, walking my dog etc) it’s in the mid 100s to low 200s.

Remote workers- what do you do for a living?

I keep seeing a ton of people on this sub say they work remote / WFH, and I’m trying to figure out what everyone actually does for a living that allows them to relocate.
