Considering macbook air 15 in lieu of macbook pro

Curious about general thoughts on “downgrading” from a Macbook Pro 14 M4 Pro 24 gb RAM with nanotexture to a macbook air 15.

I am a business owner so majority of my day is email, teams (communication and video calls), calendar management, lots of browser tabs (research, browser based apps, etc.) in chrome, word, excel, powerpoint, omnifocus for managing my tasks, AI tools like claude, chatgpt. I have one software that is windows specific we use for pricing projects and that I open via parallels. But its not that frequent. Also quickbooks for all of my financials via remote desktop to a cloud solution. Youtube viewing of course. Rare but occassional games via Nvidia GeForce

I do travel a lot so value the portability but also really value screen real estate.

So the questions…. anyone regret move like this? Do I need to worry about performance, throttling? I know the screen is bigger but not promotion and not 120 hz, any issues? Sound quality?

80% of the time I am working at my desk docked connected to external monitor, conference room screen sharing via clickshare, airport lounge, or hotel desk, or on my couch at home. Very rare outside thats not my style.

If you were to go with the 15 macbook air, 24 gb ram or better to go 32?

Thanks in advance for thoughts, experiences, and feedback!

Laundry during 12 day Alaska Cruise

Hi everyone,

We are doing the 12 night fjord, tundra, and national parks starting in fairbanks. We are flying out July 25th to have an extra day and avoid travel issues, land portion starts on July 26th. It is a 6 day pretour.

Anyone ever do this and is there time during any of the land stops to do laundry? We were going to do laundry first day on the ship but I am a bit nervous as it says everything is washed hot water and high heat. I really dont want all our stuff to shrink. To pack lighter was hoping to wash tee shirts, shorts, my wife's clothes, kids clothes, etc and basically use it to reset.

It is hard to tell how much time we will have in the last few stops, i.e. anchorage, maybe to find a dropoff laundromat service near our hotel

Golf Swing Help - Pga Store vs Golftec and Swing Posted for Example

This is my swing playing a local par 3 with my son. I suffer terribly from this move at the top where I bring it back not horrible (could be better but certainly could be worse) and at the top I go super steep and go way across the face. I am so aware I do it from videos but in the moment I have none of this feeling at all. And no matter how much i try to flatten it I do it just right on the practice swing and on full swing it comes back.

I took lessons from a local x golf (virtual golf place) over the winter. Worse decision ever. it made me worse, guy talked me into a club fitting and I am not even sure the new clubs are right for me.

So I want to start over. I want to get some lessons to get some help, have a pro evaluate if I wasted my money on these clubs and if I can salvage them or not (the guy did all types of customizations to them), and work on fixing that swing.

There is a PGA store literally 5 minutes from my house. Would be so convenient. But I am afraid its another pga pro on a simulator much like the other guy. There is a golftec about 20-25 minutes from my house so a bit of a drive but I know they have a more structured approach.

What would you do? Where would you go? Help me stop chopping wood while golfing lol.

How do people use apple reminders for gtd

I use omnifocus and it works really for me. Using on mobile and desktop. Sequential and parallel tasks, projects etc. its great.

I see a lot of people using reminders. I love the simplicity and the fact its built in. But for the life of me cant understand how people do it if life is more than a handful tasks. Any takers on how its done effectively? Curious more than anything.

Month end deal

Dealer called me knowing I am over my miles to get me out of my car cause they need a fee more cars for month end numbers. Iffered me 7500 plus dmv costs and 929 a month for 12k miles 36 month lease.

Eating my 2k miles over and remaining payments (might be rolled in who knows)

I asked the dealer for the detail breakdown, total cost, incentives, money factor, residual value, etc.

Got a response of this is the best i can do and no time for that when I asked for it all. And I did ask for it all initially before he sent me deal offer.

Its the signsture sport with moonroof operable and nappa leather interior.

I think the guy was a bit of a jerk for saying no time take it or leave it. He called me not the other way around.

What are your thoughts on this deal? Right now im keeping my foot down on wanting to see the details. Plus doing this all remote as leaving for vacation as literally on a plane.

81k on sticker on the car

Signature Sport with Stone Interior vs the Luxury trim with white/grey interior

My lease is up on my 2024 lyriq in December. I do love the car. Dealer has been trying to get me to move into new one early. I have not really wanted to do it because I dont want to roll over a ton of months into the new lease. However, dealer called me saying their leadership needs them to move a few more cars by end of June and would I be willing to consider it. I was clear, they get aggressive maybe but I dont want to pay more just to help them move cars. Hoping this could work in my favor.

I have the black luxury 3 now. Love the look of the car. The black is sleek (but always filthy admittedly) but when its freshly washed so nice, with the grey interior. And operable sunroof.

Dealer called me saying the one they have most similar is the white exterior, tan (stone) interior (nappa leather) Signature Sport. My understanding is that is the equivalent of the old sport 3.

What are thoughts on sport vs luxury, black vs white, and most importantly anyone have the stone interior? I generally dont like out of the ordinary things, so was hoping for the grey. But with white exterior admittedly I guess that could be boring. I wont have a chance to see it in person as crazy as that sounds as I am leaving for vacation tomorrow so this is all over phone/email cause they need to close the deal

Engaging with Wealth Manager, but without the investment piece

I know that most wealth advisors typically charge somewhere in the average of 1% of assets per year. I do believe in the Boglehead methodology and have been quite successful. But I am a business owner and wouldnt mind someone looking at my ultimate financial plan, insurance coverages, retirement planning, and tax efficient ways to hold my money and advising.

I am trying to find some information on what fee only fiduciaries typically charge just to do my research before I reach out to anyone but cannot find anything.

Any experience on that? And right now I have 150k in my taxable (plus 401k) so if the 1% fee applied is 1500 really that bad if they are monitoring and advising? I just dont see needing it every year, I could see it maybe as a every 5 year checkpoint etc.

I am 44 so plenty of runway before retirement. Just want to get things right now while I have time.

Dry burnt spot front lawn from cesspool settling?

I had cesspools installed a couple of years ago. The company had to come back two times because I got “sinkholes” from the settling. Each time they said normal especially with rain after install and they filled it.

Now fast forward about 2-3 years and each summer there is a round spot that dips down in my front yard a bit and the grass burns their faster than anywhere else.

I am wondering is this as simple as adding top soil on top of the grass and seeding, did I need to dig up that grass, soil and seeding, or dig up the area to make sure it didnt settle under it causing a bit of a hole under the grass?

Want to not destroy the lawn doing this as other than this spot its in great shape but I do really want to ensure its safe.

I took took pic with sprinklers on so you can see cant imagine its a coverage issue. Heads right there

Recently Switched to Apple Mail from Outlook and Love it.... Except Calendar Invites

I got tired of Outlook for Mac and recently switched to Apple Mail and Fantastical. I am loving Apple Mail. It feels SOOOO much lighter and simpler for some reason I fly through email faster. Plus the upcoming Apple Intelligence stuff.

That being said the only thing I really have friction with is calendar invites. Outlook handled these so well giving me a preview of my availability and it just visually felt more natural.

If I use fantastical to accept them it doesnt appear to remove the email from apple mail with the invite. Unless it just takes longer.

Whats your workflow on this? Anyone find a good solution?

How to lighten your backpack load when traveling

I know this is far from a big strategy conversation but it is a struggle for me…. About to leave on a 4 day business trip to the west coast from NY. I typically carry a remarkable tablet for note taking for meetings while walking around with clients, an iPad because if I am not in first class I find it very difficult to type on a full laptop, plus if I do want a break can download offline videos etc., and my macbook because when I am in the lounge, hotel, etc I want to maximize productivity.

I know in the modern day you can do most things on an iPad but it just doesnt feel like a productive workhorse to me. I guess only way I would ever find out is to truly just leave it home but the scares the heck out of me mentally.

But man when I pickup my backpack to lug around the airport it just feels so heavy. Granted it can sit on top of my suitcase and once I get to hotel half the stuff comes out.

But how do you that travel frequently effectively pack to be super productive but also just keep the weight down.

Leather vs Cloth Couches

I have a 55 pound mix breed male and a 75 pound english lab (she is 1 1/2 years old). They lay ALL over our living room couch (squished the cushions etc) and as much as we are trying to hold out the couch is beyond shot.

We have always gotten cloth as I am so afraid of ripped leather.

What is your experience? The mix breed is very good about just laying down, but the window faces front of the house so I would be lying if I didnt say they dont jump up on back of couch etc when someone is there.

And the 1 1/2 year old still occassionally scratches at the couch but I am wonder if thats cause its cloth. And we are working on training her not to do that, so she is good 90% of the time.

Terribly afraid of new couches getting ripped quickly but it would nice not to have a couch that just clings to every bit of hair and odor from the pups.

And this is in dog reddit cause rule 1 like it or not the dogs going on the couch remains :). they are family. they get use of the couch in this room (not other rooms and they know that).

Marty Scheartz Lessons? Beginner or Intermediate vs Simply Guitar?

Anyone have experience with marty schwartz lessons vs simply guitar

I have about 20 years very light guitar playing experience. I know all the basic open chords, basic knowledge of how to play e shape barre chord (but not great at it) know how to tune, change strings etc. i did sign up simply guitar but I really enjoy rhe free marty schwartz lessons. Debating on either beginner to start over and learn right vs my fooling around and maybe learning stuff, vs intermediate to level up a bit. Im concerned beginner will be too beginner but not sure.

And I dont understand theory at all which would im sure help a lot.

Athens to Milos, ferry or flight?

I am finding SUCH conflicting information on this. Debating on how to get from Athens to Milos. High speed ferry or fly. We are going to be in Athens arriving 2 dqys earlier, day prior doing sight seeing before leaving for Milos.

I am reading some people say the planes are small so if you have large luggage for a 2 weeks vacation ferry much better. Others saying if the water is rough everyone is getting seasick on the ferry which is a miserable experience.

What are the general thoughts?

Car Transportation Recommendation Post Cruise - Vancouver

We are staying in Vancouver one day after our Alaska cruise due to flight times and heading home the next day. What are the best options to get our luggage ot hotel before we are walking around? Staying at the Hilton Vancouver Airport. I assume car service is the most direct way to go and drop our luggage at hotel and from there head back downtown.

If anyone did that any reputable car service company to recommend?

North Star on Ovation of the Seas

So we booked an Alaska cruise and did all of the excursions. Didnt have on my radar to book the North Star as i didnt even realize you could in advance. Now its completely sold out it says online. Do they typically open more spots for it? Or are we stuck? Not the end of the world if we miss it but figured it would be a fun experience

Premium Luxury vs Luxury 3

I have a black awd lux 3 right now. Love the car blowing through my mileage. Dealer spoke to me about getting out early. Offered me a white premium luxury with moonroof like my lux 3 had. What am I giving up in stepping down? I find it so hard to figure that out in cadillac trim levels.

What you do it? And white vs black? I like the black. Looks sporty and real sharp. But shows everything, dirt, pollen, and scratches. Havent seen the white in person yet.

Havent worked numbers yet but dealer is thinking by stepping down trim might be able to keep payments the same.

Thoughts??

Looking for recommendations for playable acoustic guitar based on my skill level

I 100 percent will go to a store prob, guitar center being easiest for me, to test something out. But I have a fender dreadnought acoustic for probably 25 years. Always want to learn more than the open chords I know and a few basic songs and i will start playing and stop due to life committments. My time is finally changing, kids older so ai can play more. Never going to gig or be in a band. Just have fun with it, maybe fire pit in the yard etc…

The action on my existing one is in the stratosphere and always has been. Makes it so difficult to play. Want to ensure I get something that sounds decent but real focus on playability.

Any recommendations to start? And not looking to break the bank since its just for fun but dont want junk either.
