cert 3 individual support ageing placement question

Hi, so I finally enrolled into the cert 3 individual support ageing. Its online. I'm just going through it and it looks like all the units semesters 1 and 2 have a component that requires some kind placement. The issue is I have been told by my RTO they only do placement during semester 2. Is this normal? And if it is then what does it mean for the units in semester 1 units that require placement?

I'm just trying to get my head around how it all works.

BTW I'm not with tafe qld I'm doing this with Key Institute, but I'm based in QLD.

Has the way placement is now organised for aged care now changed?

I'm not sure whether I'm looking into this to much but I seem to remember a few years ago the aged care providers would advertise student placement opportunities on their website but now it seems that there is hardly any mention of it. Blue care is the only one that I have seen do it as of now.

Does anyone know why this is? Are they just leaving it up to the RTO?

Any AIN's or EN's here who have epilepsy?

I'm neither of these yet but I'm about to study my cert 3 then if everything goes well I will most likely do the Diploma in nursing. The only lingering question I have now is how do it and manage everything while staying seizure free as best as possible?

Aged care support worker career pathways?

Hi, I'm about to do my cert 3 in individual support ageing. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do in the long term. If I eventually was to study and become a EN or RN would all my placement likely be done in aged care or is it part aged care part hospital?

Looking for advice about IEA providers funding training

Hi everyone,

I'm currently with an Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) provider in Queensland. Over the past few weeks I've researched different career options and have decided that I'd like to complete the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) as part of a career change into aged care/community services.

My IEA consultant has suggested a few RTOs that they have worked with before, however the courses they recommended had already started by the time I looked into them. Because of that, I've continued doing my own research and have narrowed my preferred RTO down to DP Training, but I haven't enrolled yet.

Unfortunately, because I've previously completed a Certificate III and two Diplomas, I'm not eligible for Fee-Free TAFE/Career Start funding. I could enrol with TAFE Queensland, but I'd most likely have to wait until next year's intake, whereas DP Training has upcoming intakes that would allow me to start much sooner.

My consultant has encouraged me to go ahead and enrol, but before I do I'm wondering whether I should first ask if my IEA provider can contribute towards the course costs.

I'm hoping to get some advice from people who have been through this process.

  • How likely is it that an IEA provider would fund all or part of a Certificate III?
  • If they don't fund it, do people generally just pay themselves or are there other options?
  • If they do agree to help, how does the process normally work? Do they pay the RTO directly, reimburse you, or is there another process?
  • If I already have a preferred RTO, can I usually choose that provider, or do employment providers only fund training through RTOs they already work with?
  • Has anyone been in a similar situation where the provider's preferred course had already started and you wanted to use a different RTO instead?

I'm just trying to understand how this usually works before I enrol, as I don't want to sign up and later find out there was funding available that I should have discussed first.

I'd really appreciate hearing about anyone's experiences or advice.

Thanks!

Certificate 3 individual support online

To anyone who has done this online how does the practical side of it work? Currently I've seen RTO's that advertise certs as online then get you to go on campus to do prac days before placement, but some don't do this? So how do they do it? Do you need a external short course manual handling, first aid ect before placement? Or do they do the training as part of the placement?

Is it true that if you have done a diploma or certificate of any kind within the last 10 you are automatically ineligible for fee free courses?

So, I've researched a few RTO's for doing an individual support cert 3 I got a reply from one and was told that I won't be eligible for fee free government funding because of this. How correct is this given I'm currently not in work and on JS at the moment.

If I want to enroll in a cert and I know what I want to do should I just enrol?

To explain I'm in IEA, I've been wanting to study cert 3 individual support for a while now. The annoying thing is the provider wants me to go through them, but it just feels like its dragging out for. I can enroll in a RTO now and it basically does the same fee set up as what the provider is trying to get me. assuming I'm eligible. So why would I not just enrol in another RTO rather than wait for the provider?

Sleeping pills for long haul flights?

I asked in I different Sub how I would go about long-haul flights and everyone is recommending sleeping tablets to get through it. Has anyone done this before and there on Keppra + Topamax?

To anyone who travels and fly's a lot can you explain how you get used to long haul flights in economy?

I have only ever flown really short distances and never got my head around how people do it. But my parents have a friend who does this all the time and she basically said she would rather fly economy or premium economy long haul then sitting in a airport for a few hrs waiting to board the flight.

Aged care entry level jobs

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at starting a career in aged care in Queensland and have a few questions about the best way to get into the industry.

My plan is to study the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), but I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to get an entry-level role before I enrol.

A few questions:

  • How easy is it to get an entry-level role in residential aged care with no industry experience? And what would be the best starting ones?
  • Do most employers expect you to already have First Aid & CPR, or will they train you after you're hired?
  • If I started working before beginning my Cert III, are employers generally willing to help arrange or sign off on the required work placement, or would I still need to complete a separate placement?
  • Any tips for someone trying to get their first job in aged care?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice for someone just starting out. Thanks!

Hi, if I'm going the cert three individual support ageing & disability do I need to do placements in both these areas? Or do providers make you pick electives suited to one or the other?

(AUS) -Do companies have a set expectations for cars if your support job involves a lot of transportation?

Hi, I only thought about this last night. My car is coming up to 20 years old and really needs replacing. Runs fine but the outside isn't great (roof pain where, scratches ect. and its now got door trim where.

My question is if I was to go for a disability or aged care support care role and it mainly involve =transport would my car even qualify for this? Or would it not matter because the company would make me use there car and I would be based at a office somewhere?

Certificate 3 individual services Tafe Queensland online V a online private RTO

Has anyone done a Tafe qld cert online? If so what's it like? I've done online certs in the past but only with Upskilled and Open colleges which are both very different to this. Can anyone explain how this would work? Can you just re watch the zoom classes in your on time? Or do you still have class attendance times?

I'm not sure what to make of this email- IEA To add I'm now considering going in to support care.

"Hi,

I hope you are going well.

I have been looking for suitable jobs and have not come across too many.

Next appointment I would like to discuss some other options with you.

Perhaps trying to get into a role until your preferred industry comes up.

For example, La Madrina Pizza in xxxx are currently looking for delivery drivers.

It may not be your preferred job however something like this would potentially benefit you by getting back into the workforce.

Another option, instead of applying for everything online, I would like you to consider going into businesses with your resume, introduce yourself and ask if there is any employment available at the moment.

Since you have already applied for Coles, can you attend the store and hand in your Resume to the manager and let them know you have applied online and have a history of working there?

You would be a great candidate as you already have the experience.

I understand this may be out of your comfort zone however it shows employers that you are taking that extra step and would work in your favour.

Have you had a chance to condense your Resume as discussed in the last appointment? If so, please send me a copy when you are able to.

Lets discuss this further at your next appointment."

The whole thing is just really annoying because where I am its full of big retailers and unless she wants me to go in hospitality there isn't much where I am where you can walk in and hand over a resume.

The interesting thing is she wants to discuss my options. I'm actually thinking about going in to support care now. I looked in to this a few years ago but couldn't do it due to health issues.

EDIT: I forgot to add I can't go to Coles and hand in the resume anymore as the application has completely gone through and I already know its unsuccessful.

Is it possible to pick up a entry-level support role while still studying and on placement?

Hi everyone I'm considering doing my cert 3 in individual support. I would need to do so many hrs of placement with this (I'm not sure on the total). If I'm studying and I'm so far into the cert I have done First aid + CPR, manual handling, NDIS screening and blue card I'm at the stage where I'm on placement what's the chance that the placement will turn into a casual/PT entry level job?

Looking for career advice – Health Administration vs Community Services (QLD)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some career advice and would really appreciate hearing from people who have worked in either Health Administration or Community Services in Queensland.

I'm 31 and currently trying to decide on my next career move.

I've been out of the workforce for a period due to a medical condition that's now well controlled, and I'm actively planning my return to work. Rather than rushing into another qualification, I'm trying to understand what the long-term career prospects actually look like.

At the moment I'm considering either:

• Certificate III/IV in Health Administration
or
• Certificate III Individual Support / Certificate IV Community Services

One thing I'm struggling with is that I know both pathways involve placement or traineeship opportunities, but I don't know which offers the stronger long-term career prospects.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who actually work in these industries.

Some questions I have are:

  • Which pathway would you choose if you were starting today, and why?
  • Did your placement or traineeship lead to employment?
  • How difficult was it to get your first job?
  • What does career progression look like after 2, 5 and 10 years?
  • What are the biggest pros and cons of each industry?
  • Which has better long-term stability and opportunities?
  • If you already had Business and IT qualifications, would one pathway make more sense than the other?
  • Is there anything you wish you knew before entering either field?

I'm not looking for people to choose for me—I just want to hear real experiences from people who've worked in these roles before I commit to a direction.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

IEA random appointment change...

So I had my apointment today. They are still trying to organise this meet and greet thing which is now confirmed as just that. My appointment was booked for the next two weeks but by the afternoon they had booked me a appointment for this Wednesday. It turned out this is the meet and greet. I can't go because I have a lot on that day including another job interview so they agreed to delay it but then I was told even if I organise it they still want to be told when it is so it can be booked in? Why? Then to add even though verbally me and the consultant have agreed Wednesday won't happen why is it still sitting in WFA? Does this matter?

EDIT: I'm in QLD so it wasn't a public holiday for me....

If its a little hit and miss whether I can do my old job should I do it? (IEA)

Long story short I was working in retail at WW originally when I first went on to JS DES/IEA I wasn't really in a position to go back health wise but now I'm basically a lot better and can. The only issue is my consultant doesn't want me to and it is partly because I have been trying to work out how I would go. The issue is I have basically got to the point where I feel I should just really try it and see what happens.

My question is if I was to use IEA to help me get my old job back what exactly can they do?
