IEA random appointment change...

So I had my apointment today. They are still trying to organise this meet and greet thing which is now confirmed as just that. My appointment was booked for the next two weeks but by the afternoon they had booked me a appointment for this Wednesday. It turned out this is the meet and greet. I can't go because I have a lot on that day including another job interview so they agreed to delay it but then I was told even if I organise it they still want to be told when it is so it can be booked in? Why? Then to add even though verbally me and the consultant have agreed Wednesday won't happen why is it still sitting in WFA? Does this matter?

EDIT: I'm in QLD so it wasn't a public holiday for me....

If its a little hit and miss whether I can do my old job should I do it? (IEA)

Long story short I was working in retail at WW originally when I first went on to JS DES/IEA I wasn't really in a position to go back health wise but now I'm basically a lot better and can. The only issue is my consultant doesn't want me to and it is partly because I have been trying to work out how I would go. The issue is I have basically got to the point where I feel I should just really try it and see what happens.

My question is if I was to use IEA to help me get my old job back what exactly can they do?

Can someone clarify this? (ex employee contemplating going back)

I'm not too sure whether the rules are changing or I'm just being told mixed information.

Can someone clarify whether or not ex-employees wanting to go back still only need to go in store with a client ID they can get via the talent community, or do they now need to apply for an advertised job then go into that store?

31M, 4-year employment gap due to medical issues, 400+ applications and still no job. What would you do?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some honest advice because I'm starting to run out of ideas.

I'm 31 years old and based in the Redlands area of Brisbane. I've been out of work for almost 4 years due to a medical condition that is now well controlled and no longer preventing me from working.

Before that, I spent around 12 years working for Woolworths in customer service and retail roles.

I also hold:

  • Diploma of Information Technology
  • Diploma of Business
  • Certificate III in Business
  • Certificate II in Retail
  • Xero training
  • Microsoft 365 training and self-study (Microsoft 365 Fundamentals level)

Over the past year I've applied for more than 400 jobs across administration, customer service, IT help desk, service desk, reception and retail positions.

I've applied directly, through recruitment agencies, local businesses, councils, charities, labour hire companies and larger organisations. I've had some interviews and a few applications progress, but nothing has resulted in a job offer so far.

The main areas I'm targeting are:

Administration – because it seems like the most realistic pathway into office work given my qualifications and customer service background.

IT Help Desk / Service Desk – because I have a Diploma of IT, I've continued studying Microsoft 365 and cloud technologies, and my long-term goal is to build a career in IT.

Customer Service / Retail – because it's where I have the most experience and I'd rather be working than sitting at home waiting for the perfect opportunity.

I've also started looking at volunteering, work experience, temporary contracts and other ways of building recent experience and gaining current referees.

At this point I'm honestly wondering whether I'm targeting the wrong roles, whether the employment gap is hurting me more than I realise, or whether I need a completely different strategy.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

Would you keep pursuing admin and IT roles?

Would you focus on recruiters and labour hire companies?

Would you take almost any office-based role just to get recent experience and referees?

Or is there something obvious that I'm missing?

I'd especially appreciate hearing from recruiters, hiring managers, or anyone who has successfully returned to work after a long employment gap.

Thanks for any advice.

Rejected and I didn't even get to do a video interview?

So I applied for a job at Coles thinking it was my best chance to get another job given I was at Woolworths for almost 12 years. Filled everything out submitted the resume to days later rejected WTF?!?!?!. And I have a disability I thought they were meant to be all about inclusion.... 😞

How long does it normally take for a new gen 2 fire stick max to completely set up and run through its updates?

I had to get a new Fire stick yesterday as my old one was on its last legs. The set up that I had to do in terms of restoring the apps was fine but man the amount of updates it had to do? Wow. I'm not sure whether the new UI was a lot to do with it but I don't remember the set up taking this long. To give this some more context I started setting it up at 6pm I gave up at about 8pm I woke up at 1am to flashing light and found out that light means it was still going. The new dashboard only came up this morning.

Can some one explain what a "meet and great" is meant to be?

Long story short: I had my appointment on Monday, and we were just talking nothing major, and I just mentioned that I wouldn't mind working in a electronics store (vague description). I hadn't heard anything all week. Then was out all day today and where I was had no phone reception. I get home then there's a missed call (no message) and a email saying they have organised a meet and great. It doesn't have to be done tomorrow it can be done next week.

My only question is what exactly is it? and why are they say a consultant needs to be there?

How long do you need to use YT music before the playlists become a lot better?

I bit the bullet today and got YT premium. It a 2 month trial. I mainly got it because I was getting sick of the ads on YT plus Spotify is getting pretty pricey so I figured it was worth trying out. A few things I still trying to work out how YT music is meant to learn what I listen to as time goes on? Is it pretty similar to the way Spotify does this? And is it as good?

Carindale Parking for staff?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone had tips on the best places to park at Carindale Westfield for long stretches of time (9-5:30). I start a new job next week and I'm not really sure what the best way to go about it is. Any input is appreciated.

I will explain,

I have been trying out the new Fitbit app for a few days and the layout was really good but I noticed that it comes up with a completely different sleep score while the watch takes the reading as normal. As I understand it the new layout takes the reading slightly different. As a result, I always end up getting notifications saying I had a really poor sleep even though the watch is at 85 and the app is at 72 and I feel fine.

Anyway, is the Sense 2 not going to support the new layout when it eventually rolls out?

Does anyone know what's going on with Copilot editor? I did the latest update today and since then it hasn't worked since? I can kind of get it to work if I highlight text and tell chat to edit it, but it won't got in to edit mode. I've pretty much checked everything, so I'm lost.

Any ideas?

I finally got the firmware update only a few days ago. It's definitely a lot better however I have noticed if you run device care it can wipe or mess up your settings? This is one issue I have noticed. Has anyone noticed any other issues with it? And does anyone know when we will likely see update to fix any bugs?

It was suggested I get in to a supply chain logistics career the only issue is I'm now getting mixed messages as to how the career would go if I don't have a forklift licence. Some people say it will be fine but other say it may be quite limited going forward.

Idk, is it just one of those things where it just depends on who you work for? Or should it be fine?

To add the cert 3 supply chain includes an elective forklift licence.

Ok this is a bit of a rant, but it now seems like my consultant has very little knowledge of my situation. To explain I have a medical condition that basically rules me out of working in the ADF or working with heavy machinery, but she's not convinced and wants me to apply for a ADF telecommunications job even though I know I won't pass the medial.

Oh and to ad she keeps suggesting I do warehousing, which is great, but I can only really a some of what they want me to do as most of these are linked with getting a forklift licence.

I then tried to explain to her I can still do a apprenticeship or traineeship in something else as long as its suitable but she still thinks that I can't do it because I've done a diploma already even though I know I can as long as its in a different area.

I'm sorry but how is it that someone that claims to have worked in the industry for 30 years not know all this?

EDIT: Should probably mention I'm in IEA.
