Size comparison of Farmacy cleansing balm trio sets

I recently picked up the Farmacy Sweet Clean Trio ($47) and was disappointed that the set reduced the size to 30 mL jars ($0.52 per mL). The previous trio sets ($56) had 50 mL jars, spatulas, and definitely the best value ($0.37 per mL). While the new set is smaller and cheaper at face value, it's the same price per mL as the standard 100 mL jar. Really a non-issue, but less exciting if you buy them for the product amount and not just the variety of scents.

Brooklyn Coffee Shop episode 96: Gen Xers visit the shop

"Created by Pooja Tripathi, a New York-based writer, producer, and performer, Brooklyn Coffee Shop is a satirical series that distills the internet’s most peculiar subcultures into tightly composed, hyperreal vignettes set in a fictional café." - Homegrown IN

The humour of this satirical web series is very late-millennial-early-Gen-Z-coded and rooted in our pop culture. Remember to be your Mythical Best in the comments.

Steve Lacy ticket fiasco - Vancouver 🇨🇦

Only speaking on my experience earlier today in the general sale for Steve Lacy's tour. The final show is happening in my city. Maybe within 30 minutes since sale started, a lot of tickets were already up for resale. I've only recently noticed that resale tickets will show a description about the resellers. Most of the info is displaying business aliases based in California, Florida, DMV, Georgia, etc. Some seats were reserved for Rogers/RBC/Amex clients. It's very suspicious now that the reserved seats were purchased by scalpers from the US when Rogers and Royal Bank of Canada are only eligible for [drum roll] residents in Canada. After resale status, I don't think there's a trace of what kind of ticket it was prior. I just know because I saw the seating map in real time going from blue to grey then pink seats. So slimey of Ticketmaster to let this all happen.

TLDR: The last stop of Steve Lacy's tour will be in Vancouver. A lot of the resellers are based in the US, even though some of their resale tickets are reserved seats for Canadian network and banking clients 🤨

Ordering online via physical store in Canada

Hey all, I live in Canada and used to have UO nearby work so I was pretty much there every week. Locations closed and noticed smaller/different stock available in-stores. The new rewards program has been abysmal lately but I can't ignore the exclusive records. I ordered online sometimes if shipping coupons were available or if the discounts were deep enough for me to let shipping + import fees slide. The staff at my recent in-person visit said I could place a $50+ order through them and it'd ship to the store with the delivery fee waived. Forgot to ask them: Do they also waive the import fees? If you ordered online this way before, how was your experience? I'm trying to get a sense of what to expect if I go through with the purchases.

Musiq Soulchild - Juslisen (promotional advance 2LP)

Interesting find but this copy was stocked in the record store in tourist trap area of my city in Canada. They're known for charging twice the retail price for very common records, so you can imagine the rare records suffer worse.

Have restaurants and grocery stores all succumb to generative AI?

Okay, this isn't really exclusive to Vancouver or food places, but I'm just wondering if anyone else is very annoyed by the massive influx of AI usage in advertisement. It's all I keep seeing in food delivery apps, sandwich boards, social media posts, and even grocery flyers (Save-On-Foods, I'm looking at you but I don't want to). Traditional product photography is staged anyway, but at least it had some connection to the real thing. If the businesses can't afford a marketing team yet they have the meal or product in stock anyway, why not just take a photo it???? Not really bothered if the photo doesn't look "professional." I'd rather know what I'm getting than to be shown an AI image that promotes a product that doesn't exist. I walked around Main St. the other day and was confused why a cafe with a giant window showcase of all their delicious-looking treats still had to display a sandwich board of their menu riddled with AI photos right next to the window of the real food. The uncanny valley imagery is one way to make me not support a business. Sorry.

The Chloe discourse, again.

The previous threads about her on here are valid, but there's clear parasocial bias (both by fans and critics) who are too focused on Chloe as a public figure and not as a musician.

I don't really mind that Chloe is expressing her sensuality thru music. A lot of artists do that whether they have the sex appeal to pull it off or not. The reason her music doesn't please the general public is because it's such a disconnect from her opera-esque/CxH sound that gained her fans in the first place. Her singing style isn't suited for the trap-toxic-and-blues material she's writing/producing. Chloe is a phenomenal singer and producer, that's not being denied. But the content of her solo music is nothing groundbreaking to what her peers are also releasing. The market she's dabbling in is so oversaturated since 2010s with other artists rap-singing their way on a 2 minute beat with no bridge. Of course, if she pivoted her sound again, there's a big possibility she'd still be labelled R&B even if it's nothing of the sort (ie. Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Rihanna) since the music industry doesn't make space for Black female popstars unless they crossover from R&B.

That being said, her duo and solo music's audiences aren't mutually exclusive. I am a fan of Chloe and Halle (not the solo music), contemporary, and alternative R&B. I understand the feedback she gets from listeners' different points of view. There's factors to consider when analyzing her career thus far: she's a Black woman who grew up in the industry and internet culture. Celebrities of previous generations weren't as accessible to the general public. A sudden post, livestream, social media interaction, candid photo, or rumour nowadays can become newsworthy or controversial within minutes. Fans and critics of today take into account who a public figure like Chloe is as a person or who we think she is as a person. We've already seen that happen to her on multiple instances; from the nonstop thinkpieces about her libido, to her video covers getting feedback in real time. It's no longer just about the music. What if Chloe had her career (in a perfect world) where misogynoir, genre labels/oversaturation, and parasocial behaviour didn't exist? Would her vocals, lyrical contents, and instrumentals make sense altogether? I'll let y'all figure that out for yourselves.

Job hunting after almost a decade at my first ever job in Vancouver. Can't shake off imposter syndrome

My (27F) anniversary since moving to Vancouver/Canada is in 2 months. I had the same job since graduating high school. It was my first and only job experience. It became a chunk of my social life, too. I worked my way up for years and became the youngest team leader in the company's history, only to be let go a few months ago after 10ish years of employment.

Looking for work after all that (and in today's job market) felt like being thrown into the lion's den. It's way different now vs when I was a teen. It feels like everyone is searching for candidates and applying for anything, yet nobody is getting hired. Seems unlikely but that's the energy I've known from others and my own account. After hundreds of listings saved, hundred applications sent, and 2 interviews, I finally got an offer. Not the role I hoped for, but something's better than nothing. I probably wouldn't have a crumb of these opportunities if I didn't move to Vancouver. My home country's career scope is heavily imbalanced due to ethnicity, gender, class, family ties, access to education, conventional attractiveness, etc. Today was my first day at a new occupation. It's scary to start fresh as "the new kid" when you've done something/stayed somewhere for so long. As my former colleagues have told me, I have my whole life and career ahead of me. The past few months tho have been nonstop imposter syndrome and inability to detach from that time in my life. Detach like figuratively and literally because of family legacy, I met my ex (longest relationship) there, and I moved into my first home as an adult to be closer to the job (never doing that again). A bandaid solution would be to move to a different city or province, but Vancouver is half of my life's story/where I want to be. It's silly to feel so tethered to a workplace that kicked me to the curb if it meant saving a penny. I definitely have my flaws, but I know my contributions are worth something. Sadly, late stage capitalism doesn't mesh well with that. I don't know how to end this statement, but I hope I find solace as I come to terms with the changes in my life. If you're on the same boat, may we start believing in ourselves again even if it means settling for right now.
