Does BAM get worse or can the pattern change?

I had my gallbladder out in my 20s. Developed BAM for a year but improved. Then it returned after antibiotics two years ago. Just realized that several months ago. I’m not on a binder right now. Having a colonscopy first in December.

It just feels like it’s getting worse. My pattern used to be wake up and morning loose stool bristol 5-6 many times, maybe 4-8 times but always done around early to mid-afternoon until the next day.

For the past 5 days what’s happening is I’ll go several times in the morning/early afternoon. Stops. But proceeds after dinner several times. I never was getting it after dinner until the past week. This morning, I only went three times and actually two of them were fairly formed, the third one then started to get loose, sticky type of Bristol 6. That was around 11.30 AM. Then I had dinner and at 7:30 PM and have gone several times now. It’s depressing now going at night after dinner.

Anyone had a change of pattern before treated?

Does BAM get worse with stress?

I was diagnosed six months ago. I am not on a bile acid medicine yet because my gastroenterologist wants to do a colonoscopy first. The reason why it’s been delayed is I had sinus surgery, followed by a couple oral surgeries. Colonoscopy happening in October.

Anyway, I’ve been able to mostly control it by watching the fat intake along with upping more fiber.

I still get symptoms every day but it’s mostly in the morning and occasionally at night after dinner.

Well, Wednesday afternoon our AC went out and that was a nightmare. We live in a condo that has a community so basically management takes care of the AC.

Long story short, it could not be fixed until today so it was a good 48 hours of horrible heat and I was super stressed out and upset over basically feeling like I couldn’t breathe. It was awful. I have been really anxious to the point of in tears the last 48 hours because of being so uncomfortable in my own home. Thankfully, that was fixed by 8 PM tonight finally.

But starting yesterday afternoon, I’ve had that bright yellow looking stool. It’s basically after I eat I instantly have to go no matter what. Even drinking water right now feels like it’s stirring things around. Typically when I get that really bright yellow, I’ll get it maybe once or twice until I get another had flare. Well I have had the bright yellow with every stool since yesterday around 4 PM. It just seems really severe right now. To the point that my doctor ordered stool testing just to make sure I didn’t have an infection and that was all negative.

Do you guys notice that stress makes symptoms much worse?

Does anyone get cramps before a BM?

I wonder if this is pelvic floor related. Before I have to have a bowel movement I typically always have some cramps. Then I’ll go and it eases up until I have to go again but sometimes if I’m going five or six little times, that’s basically cramps all the time until I’m mostly empty.

Does anyone deal with this? I’ve been told I have hypertonic pelvic floor.

Are baked beans ok?

I haven’t had a flareup in over two years. I’ve had three uncomplicated flares since 2020. It’s been a long time since I’ve had beans. I was thinking about having some vegetarian baked beans (Bush's).

Is the skin on the baked beans a risk or it should be OK?

Is it possible the Wild/Quinn Hughes are waiting on something but already have the three years minimum in place?

What I mean is, I’m wondering if the Minnesota Wild/Quinn Hughes have already agreed on three years. But maybe the wait is to see if they’re going to get Larkin. If they find a way to still get him maybe then Quinn Hughes signs for longer than three years or maybe the money is a bit different?

Is it possible that there’s already a handshake deal that he’s returning? It’s just a matter of waiting to see about Larkin and/or deciding on the number of years?

Thoughts?

Anyone else get pain behind their eyes and forehead?

Typically, I have a distinct pattern when I get headaches. It’s usually on the left side. It goes up from my neck to behind my ear and into my temple.

Today I woke up with pain in my forehead, kind of above the left eyebrow and a sensation of aching behind my eyes. My right side of my neck hurts today, although I would say the forehead and eye pain is more on the left side.

It almost feels like my eyes would feel better if they were closed.

Jaw feels very tight but not sore.

Is this a common pattern for TMJ/TMD as well?

Havanese male 10 years old

On his back.

I have had him to the vet (she’s actually looked at it twice over the past two months) and the vet said it appears benign. When he gets his teeth cleaned in September, she might remove it, but wasn’t concerned. She never really said what she thought it was though… just that she thought it was benign.

Does anyone have any idea?

For those who get anal pain what’s it like?

I have hypertonic pelvic floor. Hysterectomy back in 2012.

Two months ago, I started getting sharp twinges of pain rectally/anally. They would come and go. I went to a colorectal specialist and he did an anoscopy and exam. He found normal internal hemorrhoids and a slight tear externally, a tiny fissure. Everything was mostly settled down by the time I got into him.

So now, two months later the same sharp twinges this morning only they are more frequent than two months ago. It’s always the left side. I also have pain in my left butt muscle in general.

I just don’t know what these sharp twinges are.

Can anyone relate? Is this pelvic floor related?

How many of you are woken up to pee?

Hysterectomy 2012

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction ever since on and off.

I sometimes go through phases where all of a sudden I’ll get urinary frequency, small amounts, but always feeling like I have to go, and even sometimes it will wake me up at night. Typically it will last anywhere from 3 to 7 days and then goes away until the next flare.

Right now, this flare has lasted almost 2 weeks.

I don’t have burning or any of the urinary infection type of symptoms. I just have a sensation to go and if I sleep six hours total I have an urge to go about every three hours so it’s getting me up at night.

I’m just curious how many of you will have get up at night to go?

How common is this symptom with hypertonic pelvic floor?

Went to see a colorectal surgeon yesterday. Had an anoscopy.

He found a couple hemorrhoids and a fissure.

But it’s weird because since early this morning, I’ve had the worst IBS flareup. Started out soft stool and now more like Bristol 6. I’ve gone I would say 10 times.

I’m trying to figure out if it could be due to the scope (making things sensitive) or stress over the appointment.

Anyone have something like this then got a flare?

Symptoms?

I had an anal fissure a couple decades ago. I remember it really hurting when I had a bowel movement. But it went away after a couple of weeks.

However, I’ve been having that glass-like pain again. I am getting like zings of pain, they come and go. Worse after a bowel movement or sometimes coughing.

I just can’t remember if fissure pain only happens when you have a bowel movement. Can you have pain in general?

What are everyone’s symptoms?

Anyone else get pain in neck, back of head, that shoots into temple?

Started this morning… pain on right side of neck into back of head then shoots into temple. It even feels like there is burning a bit around neck into head. Where it hurts to press is neck.

Anyone get this? It feels like if I could crack my neck it might relieve it. I just hate the random temple pain with it.

Does anyone have both IBS & BAM?

Hi,

I know some people will say I never had IBS once they get a BAM diagnosis. Not me. I have both.

I’ve had IBS D since practically birth. I’m not kidding. My pediatrician apparently told my parents I just had food allergies and yet could never come up with exact food allergies.

Around age 20, I was diagnosed with Selective IgA Deficiency. It’s basically an immune deficiency, one of the more mild but can definitely affect your gut.

So I’ve had issues my entire life. I used to play soccer and basketball and would have to run to the bathroom after games sometimes.

In 2004, I had my gallbladder out. That’s when the bile acid malabsorption started. I went on cholestyramine. However after about a year, it seems like the BAM got better and I went off of cholestyramine. I could tell the difference between IBS and too much bile.

Fast-forward to 2024 when I had my third uncomplicated diverticulitis flareup, another condition I have is diverticular disease. I went on Augmentin, which I’m kicking myself for going on because it caused my gut to be completely out of whack. My new gastroenterologist even said if I would’ve been under his care, he never would’ve put me on the Augmentin since my flare was uncomplicated. BAM returned after two decades and I know this because I had testing done by Mayo and then I was told I had post-infectious IBS.

So basically daily I deal with BAM and IBS. It is hell. Oh and throw in having a hysterectomy back in 2011 and that caused pelvic floor dysfunction which I don’t think helps BAM or IBS.

Anyone else have both conditions and others as well?

My list is:

  1. IBS
  2. BAM
  3. IgA Deficiency
  4. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
  5. Diverticular Disease
  6. GERD

How do you deal with it?

Anyone have a normal looking BM then looser and looser daily?

I will have a Bristol 3/4 stool in morning. Cheer, but not sure why I’m celebrating because the next 2-5 more are looser, always ending up with Bristol 6.

This is daily.

Does anyone have this pattern?

Need help with 10 year old Havanese and his food situation.

Hi,

Here is his story:

From the moment we got him around three months old he’s always had a sensitive stomach. We even took him to a vet specialist… I think she was an internist specializing in gastroenterology.

She basically said he had IBD. Suggested staying away from chicken formula food, keep him on wet food. Prescription. Low-fat.

So for the past 10 years, he’s been either on Hills low fat I/D, Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat or Purina EN low fat.

However, he’s now putting his nose up to both EN and Hills I/D. He does not want to eat them. I think he wants something with more flavor. There’s nothing wrong with him because we’ve had them to the vet and he’s fine. He’s just becoming very picky. He’ll gobble cheese and banana just fine and loves more tasty food. Vet said he is fine, he just finds his prescription low fat food boring and not tasty enough.

The Vet said we could try him on sensitive stomach non-prescription formulas. I’ve tried him on Purina pro plan sensitive stomach salmon and rice as well as lamb and oatmeal (different times). He loves both. He absolutely loves the taste of both and will eat them, but I went slowly and gave him the hills low fat I/D with each one. He only wants the Purina but eats the entire bowl.

However, when I finally got to the point of only giving him the one pro plan he’ll have loose stool or vomit. It seems like as long as I give him the hills with either food he’s fine but then when I try to just give him the pro plan formula alone he will get symptoms.

So I feel stuck in that he now hates the low fat prescription (not tasty enough) but doesn’t seem like he does OK on non-prescription alone (or I haven’t found the right formula).

Any suggestions?

GI ordered this.

So as I was holding the hat to put into the toilet I half sneezed. Instantly, I wondered if any of the sneeze/mist of sneeze got in the hat. I did the sample and dropped it off.

But now I’m wondering if a tiny bit of sneeze got on the hat or a tiny bit of saliva would that affect this test? False positive on one of them?

Thanks.

I have a history of uncomplicated diverticulitis. Over the past week I had been getting some lower left pain, although it was a little more all over my gut, along with some trapped gas pains. I have IBS/BAM/pelvic floor dysfunction as well so it was difficult to sort out what was going on. I had a virtual appointment on Sunday. The NP ordered a Cat Scan to rule out a diverticulitis flare.

Thankfully, it wasn’t diverticulitis. But what surprised me (in a pleasant way) is my pancreas read as normal. The two previous cat scans (November 2025, March 2026) showed a spot on my pancreas with two different radiologists saying it was suspected focal fat but requested an MRI to confirm. After the November 2025 scan is when Dr. ordered the MRI.

However, the most recent Cat Scan on Sunday thankfully does not even pick up any spot/suspected fat and says normal pancreas. I was so relieved seeing this!

But summarizing:

November 2025: Saying focal suspected fat, MRI to confirm.

March 2026: Says unchanged, focal suspected fat, MRI to confirm.

 April 2026: Normal Pancreas.

  1. How could the pancreas thankfully be normal on April 2026 Cat Scan when there was suspected focal fatty spot on two previous Cat Scans (November 2025, March 2026) they want to confirm by MRI?
  2. Does fat on the pancreas disappear?

Has anyone ever had something like this happen before with the pancreas?
