First car at 20 (an oldtimer, one of 72!)

I have been thinking about buying an oldtimer ever since I got my drivers license. Because it is so much cheaper (no roadtax and much cheaper insurance) and more unique and fun. Now I finally got one! A 1986 Nissan Micra k10!

Is it the cheapest car? No

Is it the most reliable car? No

Is it the most efficient car? No

Is it the most practical car? No

Is it the most comfortable car? No

Is it the safest car? No no no

Is it a fast car? No

Is it a very fun car? Yes!

And even all those things I mentioned it isn't actually that bad at. It wasn't that expensive. It is a Nissan, so decently reliable. It is actually pretty efficient (1L on 20km). It is surprisingly spacious on the inside. The seats are actually really nice and eventhough it only has 4 gears, it isn't even that loud on the highway. It isn't fast, but 50hp on 670kg is not very slow either.

It is pretty unsafe... the only safety feature is seatbelts...

It is also extremely well maintained. It has been stored indoors for most it's life. It had a rust prevention treatment from new. And as I said, it has been looked after really well. The previous owner planned on driving this car for the rest of his life, but do to situations, he realistically wouldn't drive it for the next 5-10 years. So he sold it.

The previous owner bought a donor car in the past and I could take all the parts from it with the purchase. We sadly couldn't take everything since we don't have any place to store it all. But still we filled up 2 cars with parts. I got another full engine, 5 wheels, doors, bumpers, windows, drivetrain parts, electronic parts, interior parts... I now have basically 1,5 Micra's.

Funny enough, we could fit more in the Micra, then in the 2020 Hyundai Kona.

Also, fun fact, here in the netherlands are only 72 Micra K10s still registered. So it is pretty rare.

Golf MK2 1.6D GL as a first car?

Hello! I'm looking to buy my first car. I'm 20 years old which means here in the Netherlands that insurance is still pretty expensive. Since I don't need a car, and I just want a car for the hobby, an oldtimer would be a lot cheaper. I don't have to pay any roadtax and insurance is cheaper for oldtimers.

Offcourse with old cars come more issues needing repairs, but since I don't need a daily driver, it's not much of an issue. I enjoy mechanics and would like to learn by working on a car.

I figured a Golf MK2 would be a good fit for me. From what I've read, it is decently reliable and since it is a VW, parts are easy and cheap to find.

The particular car I'm looking at (shown in picture) is a 1.6D GL with around 125.00KM

Now my question is, would it be smart to spend 4-5K on a 40 year old golf, but save money on insurance and roadtax? Or should I buy a cheaper, 1-3K car, but having to pay over double on insurance and tax, even if I don't drive the car all that often.

Looking to buy first 900

I'm currently looking at buying my first classic car. I found a really good looking 1983 Saab 900 2.0 GL. From what I've read and seen on this particular example it seems like a really reliable option. Are there any specific things to look out for in this particular model and what things could be absolute deal breakers?

Concert Amsterdam, to go or not to go

I'm not fully sure let me explain. I am a big fan of Tool. I also really enjoy Puscifer. Naturally I would really enjoy A Perfect Circle too. Though, I for some reason, have never really properly listened to their music. They will play here in Amsterdam in 3 weeks. I knew they would play here for quite some time, but for some reason haven't done anything. Now I am heavily doubting whether I want to go or not. I can get resale tickets for just €10 more then they were originally. But since I barely know their music, I am really not sure if I want to spend €90 to go to their concert, eventhough I know for sure I would love their music. Please help me decide somehow

Fixed a cheap electric screwdriver with a deans connector

What do you do when the USB-C charge port breaks on your cheap electric screwdriver? You put in a random deans connector. Duhh, obviously

Collection due to (un)fortunate turn of events

I am probably the millionth guy in their teens/twenties showing off their collection, so hopefully, I am not boring you all too much. I would just like to share how this all started for me, and I would like to ask for more album recommendations.

So, this all started last winter. My parents were cleaning the attic, and my mom found her old CDs. Since she has an overlapping music taste with me, she wanted to show me her CDs. I thought it was really cool to have the music you actually love in physical form, with the booklets and the artwork and all that stuff.

Then, about 1 or 2 weeks later, when traveling home from college, it had snowed so badly that all public transport stopped driving. This meant I could not get home and was stuck in this city for hours. This is how I ended up finding the record store. When I went in there, I got triggered again. I didn't buy anything that time, but the week after, on my way home from college, I had to stop by the store and pick up my first CD. Now, months later, I still visit the store at least once every 2 weeks. So much fun.

So that's it, feel free to comment on my collection so far. And if you have any recommendations for other albums, let me know!
