I don’t do well in horror movies and finally saw Obsession. Spoilers? I don’t know, it’s all fucked. But no, no spoilers.
As the title says, I can’t really handle horror movies and I can really only watch them when I’m with friends.
I’ve been hearing so much about obsession online and at work that I finally bit the bullet and watched it. Sadly, none of my buddies were available.
Well first of all, Inde is so gorgeous and, after watching this movie, an incredible actress, holy shit. The whole movie feels like a film festival submission that my friends and I would work on but x100.
Act 2 was by far the absolute hardest thing I’ve had to watch in a while. To give you some context, I’ve never been able to watch VVitch, I had to finish the last act of hereditary on silent, on my phone and at 2x speeds with one eye, I almost crawled out of my seat while watching Hokum, and I still have nightmares about Smile 2.
During this movie I almost left the theater twice because I figured “not gonna get better than this, I’m out” but I’m glad I watched all of it. Once during act 1 right after it gets weird and once in act 2 in the midst of the weirdness.
Feel like everyone is giving it a 8 or 9 out of 10. And im probably closer to a 7/10? Maybe 8/10.
My god, it was just … fuck … it’s just sitting in my bones right now while I sit and wait to watch the new robinhood movie.
This post is for the lady that just completely stopped on the merge lane from james White Park Way going west merging onto 40. If this isn’t you keep scrolling.
What the actual fuck? You had another quarter mile until that lane naturally gets off to 275. But you completely stopped at 7:35 in the morning. Possibly one of the busiest times on that chunk of Highway.
Be safe people.
I missed the first 45 minutes of disclosure day and didn’t feel like I missed any of the story.
As the title says. Booked an 8:55AM RPX with a buddy and I got caught up with morning kid stuff. Finally got them dropped off and thought about skipping the movie and talking to the manager before my double feature but got to the movie at 10:15, one other couple sitting further to the back.
He gave me a quick 4 sentence summary of what I missed.
Edit:
Sorry, had to post quick before my other movie. I know I didn’t miss much cause I watch the last 1hr 30min of the movie and didn’t seem like I missed anything.
Also, didn’t like it.
Trying to double feature disclosure and he man. Early cause I have to pick the kids up by 5but would like to get them early around 3:30. It’s not possible. Is it?
Mandalorian and grogu director’s commentary is available, anyone try it yet?
I posted about project Hail Mary commentary a couple months ago and really enjoyed that. It sure if I care enough about Mando to see it again, but I guess I’ll try it if it’s on at a convenient time on Friday.
Triple feature today, one movie yesterday. Mando, backrooms, he-man, scary movie. Been traveling a lot for work and family and I was finally able to catch up. No spoilers.
The movies are my comfort zone, happy place, etc. due to lots of travel I’ve gotten behind.
Backrooms was good, I don’t do well with scary and it wasn’t too bad. Stressful at times, two jumpy moments.
Scary movie, exactly what you’d expect. lol.
He-ma, unexpectedly goofy. But entertaining and really, really good. If I didn’t know, skeletor was Jared Leto I’d give it probably an eight out of 10 for just being a fun time. Every time I saw skeletor I just picture Jarrod Leto being a dickhead on a film set.
Mandolorian, felt like they stitched six episodes of the show together. You could really see small story arcs throughout. That being said Grogu is incredibly adorable and my children loved it. I love how much of a bad ass Mando is.
Best wings in Knox competition.
Since the best pizza in Knox post is getting love, let’s hear about your best wings. I have my opinions, but I’ll wait.
Staying at a cottage this week and host asked we sign an additional contract. Is this allowed? [USA] [MI]
Additional contract has some simple requests:
- Turn off AC when you leave for the day.
- Only use quick wash setting
- No food down the drain
- Don’t add more users on the netflix account
- No sand in the washer/drier (this is a beach town)
… Among others things.
Keep in mind the listing on this spot was very accommodating. “We want to make sure you have everything you need.” But there are signs posted everywhere that make me feel like I’m at my parent’s house.
Are hosts allowed to require additional “contracts”
Visiting Wichita this week and planning on seeing movies on Wednesday and Thursday. Questions!!
- Which theater there do you prefer?
- I see the non-imax has recliners, better option?
- Any other tips?
- We’re staying Downtown and don’t have a car, are Ubers reliable?
My partner and I are most likely moving back to Australia early next year. We’re both mid career holding great jobs but my partner’s parents in Australia have all of a sudden become much older and would benefit from us moving closer to help out.
My partner is a dual citizen and has lived in the US for 30 years (since they were 18). I’m a US citizen. Our 3 kids are all dual citizens.
My in-laws are all in. They’re excited about being close to grandbabies and have a small unit a block away that can be tight but temporary living for us.
I feel like I have so many questions.
We travel in every other Christmas and some summers to visit for 2-4 weeks at a time. I’ve only known what vacation feels like in Australia so I’m a little nervous getting there and being on vacation mode but needing to quickly check the “oh we’re staying here” box.
Ok, questions:
Visa? My kids don’t have AUS passports so my plan was to travel us over on a tourist visa then apply for a partner visa as soon as we get settled. Right now we have one-ways booked but I wonder if I should book refundable returns just in case.
Banks?
Everyday spend: I’ve created an account on WISE and started transferring USDs to AUDs. Not a lot. Seems too easy, not sure if this is the best thing to do.
401k, IRA: We have several retirement and saving accounts here. Seems like the easiest thing will be to consolidate all of them and let them just sit in America. I was planning on setting up a friend or family member here as “power of attorney” so they can sign and initiate things stateside.
Realestate: I know housing is bonkers in the US and in AUS. We are planning on selling our house, likely finishing it up after we fly to AUS. We have a good chunk of equity and would use that to hopefully find something close to our family. What’s the safest way to move that money and not be destroyed by fees?
I probably need to get tax people stateside and Aussie side?
We’re nervous but excited.
What am I not thinking about?
Saw Project Hail Mary for the third time yesterday morning to kill time before lunch and another movie and it was an incredible experience.
For those that don’t know, Theater Ears is an app that can offer alternative audio tracks to films you watch in the theater. It’s primarily marketed as a Spanish dub tool for language/accessibility.
The app seems to be trying something new and they are offering a director’s experience with Project Hail Mary. As soon as the movie started, I had one ear bud in and I could hear the directors talking about the filmmaking process. Right off the bat they’re like, “this first scene with Ryan waking up is the first scene he filmed, it was a great way to introduce him to the character and he needed to figure out who he was” or something along those lines.
I’m sitting there in the theater realizing I’m having a completely different experience in this than anyone else in here and there is something special about that.
I think we are the very unique community that can use this app regularly. Not sure about yall but I will happily see a movie several times in theater if it was an enjoyable experience. Now to be able to rewatch with commentary, cmon! Amaze amaze amaze
Technical details. I’m on an iPhone, not sure if it’s on android.
It seems that the app uses location and microphone to synchronize with where you are in the movie and it’s VERY accurate. The app warns you that you can’t record the audio track because it’s illegal and against their policies. I had to step out for a work call for about 30 minutes and when I came back into the theater, the app picked right back up where the movie was, I dint have to scrub through or do anything, honestly couldn’t be easier.
The app seemed to have that brightness override which dimmed the screen to its lowest level and couldn’t be brought up, similar to that live movie voting app from the interactive film experiences.
With physical media becoming less common, this was a feature on DVDs that I loved and soemthing I feel like is missing from multiple streaming platforms. Could this be expanded beyond theaters? Could it be expanded within theaters?!?!
I’m telling yall. This thing is a total game changer.
Has anyone tried it? What movies would be best for a feature like this?
Here’s the link to the iPhone app:
