Ramen Haven

Ramen Haven

First time at this place and a pretty decent bag. Dumplings are $10 for five on the menu and this had 8. The container on right was a mix from an appetizer combo and veggie combo $18/$17 respectively. (The drink was $9 on menu, and honestly, I’m not a fan of milk tea. But total was well above promised. This was a $10 bag. And yes, I’d go back.)

Fidelity Rewards card second card online access?

A few months back, one of my "nice to have" requests came through. Cards for my wife and daughter each have their own number.

Now, trying to understand if they can access their transactions on line and it doesn't seem so. When signing into the web page from Fidelity rewards, it ask if you already have a Fidelity brokerage acct. If yes, need to sign in there. But at that page, only I can see the card activity.

To be clear, we both have brokerage accts as well, and her view doesn't show the card.

My card had a recurring charge, not much, but when I gave my daughter (also on my acct) the list of charges that I thought were hers, it was a subscription she thought she cancelled.

Not complaining, not at all. My own fault. If my two extra members can't access, I'll just sent her the portion of the bill each month and ask her to give a quick review. I'm thinking of the Costco Citibank card we have. Wife's the primary, but I have an access for my card number, and it's pretty convenient for us.

Penultimate Dead?

I've seen the "lack of support" and "no update" posts. But.

I just tried to sign in to penultimate on my iPad and getting an error "Error communicating with the Evernote servers".

I have notes I still want to access. FWIW I have the paid level of service.

(I just did an AI search and I'm told it's discontinued. It would have been nice to get a bit of a warning, like "we are not supporting access to penultimate after June 30, 2026" I just lost quite a bit of work.)

High Shipping Fees Question

I've bought quite a few smaller items, tech things like cables and hubs, etc.

Recently I saw a hard drive enclosure that looked interesting, and about 30% lower than I'd see on Amazon. The $80 item showed a $250 shipping fee.

Ok. I get it. Since then, I get countless emails offering similar enclosures. All look good and inexpensive, but every one of them comes with high shipping.

Is there some way to set my account to only show me products that are shipped from local US warehouses, so I have a chance to see a reasonable shipping cost?

4% card fees coming

I was at a restaurant in New York City this past weekend. The Bill came and the first thing I noticed was that below the total it offered a different price for people using their credit card easy enough to see the difference was 4%.

The Dave approach avoids this cost. And I’ll agree with him. That cash is king.

Over time, I do understand that those claiming to get rewards aren’t getting them out of any businesses kindness. Everyone else is picking up the tab. In the end, days, and his followers should insist that stores that don’t charge a premium for card users offer a discount for those paying with cash. I’ve noticed two prices for sometime at the gas station, but this is the first time I’ve seen it at a restaurant.

(before anyone asks, I did not ask the waitress if a similar charge applied to a debit card. Next time I see this on a bill I’ll be sure to ask.)

This is the way.

New 457 Custodian no emailing forms?

I have a 457 and the custodian has changed from Voya to National.

I understand that I really have no investment options, the money is in a guaranteed fund whose return lags a good money market.

I am over 60 and working part time. Voya had an online option letting me transfer funds out to me IRA. Nationwide showed no option, so I submitted an email asking.

The reply was that for security reasons, they could not email the blank form. I need to call to request it. This is my question. I've never gotten such a response. Does this seem normal?

100 feet behind school bus?

I was driving behind an empty school bus (just driver, of course), and was stopped by a policeman who told me I was too close to it. It wasn't stopped to pick up or drop off, just driving on a 25MPH local street. She was nice enough, told me most people don't know they need to leave that much space, but reminded me that busses have a note to stay back 100 feet.

I am in my 60's. Yes, I see the note on the busses. Never been stopped before for this.

I really do have a question - Can this actually be followed? 100ft = about 5-6 car-lengths. I'm expecting that if I leave that much room, another car will fill the gap (actually, good!) or cars behind me will beep 'cause I'm driving in a way they don't like.

Ironic thing? I let the bus go in front. I had yielded to let it make a right turn further back. I work at a school, and am in the habit of doing that. On reflection, just not doing that would eliminate my issue nearly completely.

This was in Massachusetts, FYI.

Trashed my sprinkler system

Some time ago I asked the question - "How do they run the fiber and not cut my sprinkler lines?"

Members said not to worry.

I got my fiber, and asked sprinkler guy to do the startup. Warned him about the fiber install. He said he'll leave little flags at any break.

I came home to a yard full of flags, and 2 weeks now with no reply from the 3rd party contractor that ran the fiber conduit.

On the bright side, I have the upload I wanted, 300Mbs. Cable doesn't come close.

(anyone with any experience with these contractors, I'm curious how long these repairs take.)

Timing of Medicare premium withheld from Social Security Benefit

(My Wife) will be 70 mid-May.

I understand she'll get her first Social Security deposit mid-June.

Now, I am looking at her Medicare Premium Bill, due 5/25, but when I go to the system online, where I pay via credit card, it warns that payments are withheld from the benefit and will not accept a payment.

Given this is a first, I'm just asking if this timing sounds right. It would have made sense if the bill itself said "do not pay". Interesting thing is, I could just mail it back with the payment.

I've been using Plex for a few years now.

Early on, a lot of questions, but then, it just works.

Today, I loaded a TV series "The Shield" from 2002. Plex gave it the Poster from "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." I know, I can manually load a poster, but I'm curious on what caused this, and looking to see if this is a common issue.

This is the Rail Trail crossing at old Lancaster Road. A few days ago, I was on Lancaster heading towards Rt 20. I drive slowly anyway down these side roads but for whatever reason, I came to a stop, even though no one was in the crosswalk. A bike came full speed out of nowhere, right through this crosswalk. Had the timing been any different, I'd have run him over or he'd have slammed into my car and hurt himself.

I like the trail, I just wish people, all people using it, realize they are crossing streets along the way. When it's car vs bike, the guy on the bike gets hurt. I can and do, go slow, but that won't keep a biker from slamming into me.
