Grapes galore, a pineapple at the spot and a quick dinner

Another successful day at the farmers market, my first grapes this year and the best kind (sultana:) avocado was a nice surprise at the bottom of the box and it had to be used asap so I whipped a quick guacamole with some smoked paprika. Knife is my precious woodworking tool I don't really use for woodwork but it's been useful while foraging and ddiving as well:)

Oh I also found some sweaters and jeans and there is too much textile left behind at the flea part of the market, it's sad really, I wish I had space for more since I started upcycling some things (bleach dyed pants in that last photo were thrifted for 2$ at the same market:)

the amount of these lil f*ckers all over the city

I mean, what even is this? Wall ashtray?

Anyway I think we might be the world capital of ๐Ÿšฌ

Funny enough I am also a smoker bc I started as a teen back in 90s and it's too hard to stop when it's still cheap and everybody smokes everywhere and weed is still illegal๐Ÿฅฒ

Still, I don't litter and hate this lil fuckers. (Pocket ashtrays are your friend, fellow enjoyers of tobacco)

If I add some sprinkles it won't look like shit, right? Wrong ๐Ÿ’ฉ

Avocado/cacao/rum/vanilla/honey/milk mousse, it's pretty awesome if you ignore the obvious

Dumpster gods delivered some ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’today ๐Ÿฅน

Hello it me, your Balkan farmer's market reporter, I was bit late today but still found an amazing treat, this might be my best ever:)

They were just there, waiting for me, and ofc just earlier today I finally caved in and bought my first pound from the same seller who was the cheapest at the market so I guess he earned enough and just left these behind...

They're still hella expensive but they're one of my favorite fruits so I was thrilled to have all this for free :)

I shared some with one of the cleaners at the market and later some more with other lady cleaners from nearby municipality offices where I chill sometimes (they're Roma and I know they have big families so I offered them some and they were so glad I did and I also told them about the free food at the end of the day at the market, I also showed them some swiss chard I got today and gave like half of it as well to one of them, and she shared with me her favorite way to make 'swiss chard sarma' so it was pretty cool!

And I still have a bunch of cherries I need to eat asap, and maybe even preserve some

Balkanpoor gorpcore

I should have gorped it for real, it was 8C last night and I froze to death by Koลกava (strong wind from Carpathians) while getting some chinese pastries and turkish sweets with a friend, also high as a kite. Mostly thrifted fit, Uniqlo round mini and mi new Adidas Eastrail 1.0 bc 2.0 are still too expensive here ๐Ÿ’€

My first baked cheesecake

Mango and strawberries for my 45th birthday, first time baking cheesecake and I was nervous it won't set, but in the end it was amazing and my guests loved it!

(Sorry about the quality of photos, I didn't have much time bc everyone was impatient to try it lol)

Cucina povera - 'asian' risotto edition

I wanted to make my cheap chicken salad for lunch but they were out of rotisserie chicken so I figured I'll make something from my pantry, I remembered I had some dried mushrooms (some chinese mix, snow fungus, even some morels and boletus as well, they bit pricey but I don't use much so they last long) so I soaked them in boiling water, found some sad sausage and used it up as well, few spring onions instead of an onion, a sad Swiss chard I forgot about and just a half of cup of arborio rice (the only meal beside rice pudding that is actually better with round rice and not basmati, something about starches, dunno but it's a rule I follow). I mixed the water from mushrooms with some broth concentrate I had and at the end I added some grana padano a friend brought a while back from Italy and that I use to "pump up" my meals regularly.

In the end I haven't spent a dime on my lunch and I still had a hearty and tasty meal. So with some pantry staples and some creative thinking you can make a restaurant quality meal, my friends always compliment my ability to "make such a feast out of nothing" and I am glad I'm still able to deliver the magic lol.

(Growing up during war in Bosnia and having frugal grandparents and parents as well has its own advantages I guess)

Hi, hello, your Balkans farmer's market fiend here again, I scored some greens today, I have some celery leaves and coriander and tarragon that I have no idea what to do with, any ideas?

Carrots and radishes I will probably pickle, maybe try kimchi?

Zucchinis were my biggest find today and I decided to make something right away bc I haven't had any this spring (still 2-3$ for a kilo) and I also had some cheddar I got from a friend so that was a nice addition, am just waiting for it to cool down a bit so I can try it ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ”ฅ My friend was super exhited and he wants to do it again:)

Oh and the book is with old folklore songs and wreath is a part of the local tradition for Saint George's Day (orthodox one is today) and I hung it outside our door for prosperity and good health, so it's a paganism par excellence ๐Ÿ’

I made a collage including the 2016. photo I found on instagram under the original post from yesterday so exactly 10 years apart.

This is like a poster child for my argument that there is no such thing as a "house plant", we just trained them to adapt to subpar conditions and we call it a success on a very good day with maximum pampering while out there they don't give a flyin fuck as long as they have enough sun and ocassional water ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿ’ฉ

Got this jacket from a friend who wanted to toss it out and I was like, wait, it would make a great bag! So I tried to use as much of the jacket as I could to make it work and the only thing I'm pretty bummed about is the fact that it's not real leather bc than it would be really worth hand sewing the whole thing over the course of five days

In case it starts to disintegrate pretty fast I might add some real leather patches (bc I do wanna make more of these and find more free jackets pls).

Anyway the total cost was 1 dollar for the strap and a gram of weed, so 11 dollars:)

I can't wait to go out and use it, my roommate thinks it's pretty cool, we laughed when I figured out I can even use it as a medical aid

Not bad for a "dead day"* at the market, I actually needed carrots, salad and spring onions so it's a win-win, I bought some pesto (on discount!) earlier for pasta but I still might try to make my own wild garlic spread with the bunch I found today, that will be a nice way to preserve them.

*Some sellers take the day off on monday after a long weekend
