Ümit Özdağ : Türkiye'nin Orta Doğu Olmasını Kabul Etmiyoruz. (Türkiye Orta Doğu İle İlişkilendirilmemeli)

u/kirilgankapi124 — 8 days ago

I didn't feel relief or happiness after receiving the diagnosis; in fact, I felt terrible.

In December 2025, I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome at Madalyon Clinic in Levent, Istanbul, because my country was still using ICD-10.

The diagnosis made me uncomfortable. After receiving it, I felt more uneasy rather than relieved.

In January 2026, my neighbor, who had reported me to social services when I was in fifth grade, alleging that my family had been vi•lent toward me, reported me to the municipal police again because of noise. My family sent the municipal police the document confirming my Asperger diagnosis, and the municipal police told my neighbor, “He is a special child with Asperger's, so he may make noise. Don't report him.”

The fact that this neighbor found out about my diagnosis has also affected me badly, especially because my family had previously been involved in a legal dispute with them when I was a child.

The worst part is that I attend the same school as their child. I will take the university entrance exam next year, while my neighbor's son is one grade below me. So if he knows about my diagnosis, it feels like it could spread at any moment. Their family may have told him about my diagnosis. If my diagnosis spreads at school, people around me who already dislike me may find out about it.

spectrum-oriented community

As someone diagnosed with Asperger's, I’ve started a community focused on the spectrum.

Those interested in joining can get in touch with me (Via DM).

I had originally planned to advertise it here, but I didn't want to take the risk.

becoming paranoid

Eight months ago, I was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome by Dr. T•••i at Madalyon Clinic in Levent, Istanbul, because my country was using ICD-10.

When I first received the diagnosis, I told my elementary school friend, who was the only person I considered a real friend at the time. I made a huge mistake and even sent him the document confirming my diagnosis.

I realized weeks later that this had been a mistake. He started talking to me less and eventually stopped messaging me. I don’t know if it’s because of this, though. He’s in his final year of high school and is preparing for the university entrance exam, so that could also be the reason he hasn’t been messaging me.

I also made another mistake: I added his Instagram account, which only has around 10 followers, to my personal account because I trusted him.

I don’t really have anyone at school, and people there have generally treated me in a hostile way, so I only have four people from my school following my account. My elementary school friend doesn’t go to my school, which is at least somewhat reassuring, but unfortunately he knows the Instagram accounts of the people from my school.

I made the stupid mistake of telling him basically everything and opening up to him about my personal life. Now I’m constantly afraid that he might spread everything I told him.

What should I do? Should I remove my elementary school friend from my Instagram followers, or should I leave things as they are because I’m afraid that if I cause any problems, he might expose my diagnosis?

I know I made a huge mistake. Getting this diagnosis has already affected me very badly, and I’ve made several stupid decisions since then. What should I do now? Who should I remove or block?

I’m genuinely scared and I feel like I’m becoming paranoid about this.

hostility

I am so tired. I want to experience life the way neurotypical people do; I want to make friends just like everyone else. Back in the 8th grade, the school administration tried to have me expelled simply because I was different (they backed down only after my family issued a formal legal warning). In the 5th grade, my neighbor tried to have me removed from my home by reporting me to social services. Why is this happening to me instead of others? It feels as though everyone has sworn to make my life miserable, and I am the sole target of their hostility.

The WHO completely disregarded the stigma attached to them.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's eight months ago because ICD-10 is used in my country.

I am certain that the WHO made changes for political reasons when developing the ICD-11. I am not opposed to innovation—I am actually a progressive person—but I believe that by classifying our condition as autism, the World Health Organization has definitely disregarded the resulting stigma.

The worst part is watching ICD-11 come to your country.

I don't want my code to be changed to 6A02.0 when ICD-11 eventually comes to my country.

The WHO, which doesn't understand the perception of autism in my country, is the one making this decision.

I don't know what stigma is like in other countries, but in my country, autism is often used as a subject for jokes. It's disturbing. Even when I'm scrolling through Reels on Instagram, I come across jokes about autism in my country, and people act as if the only autistic people are those with more severe support needs.

The worst part is having to hide my Asperger’s diagnosis from people outside my close circle because of the negative perception of autism. That’s what wears me down the most. If someone finds out, I feel like my life would fall apart. That’s how serious it is. Because everyone in my wider social circle is against me.

I’m considering establishing an association both globally to advocate for the return of Asperger syndrome to ICD-12 and in my country to have the name “Asperger” added through a local modification when ICD-11 is introduced.

I don't know how much good starting an association would do. It probably won't work, but there's no harm in trying. Do you think I should venture into setting up an association? (After all, once I start one in my country, it will become much harder to keep my diagnosis hidden from the people around me.) Or should I just leave things as they are?

oppressive regime

I am Turkish. First of all, I must point out that an increasingly oppressive regime is emerging in our country.

Our president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is trying to Islamize us and make us look like an Arab country. He garners votes by constantly harping on Islam—religion, religion, religion—and repeatedly gets elected president thanks to the votes of elderly grandmothers (since most young people are atheists; even I am not a Muslim).

In my country, Özgür Özel is the leader of the main opposition party, and he aims to get us into the European Union; he has made promises to that effect (and I support him, too).

As Atatürkists and republicans, we do not want to become Islamized. (I say this not because I hate Islam—I hold no hatred toward anyone—but simply because I am fed up with the situation.)

Realizing he is going to lose, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pressures almost everyone—especially most of the country's mayors—by effectively telling them, "Either you go to jail, or you switch to our party." He is bringing most mayors into his own party. Despite trailing badly in the polls, he remains in power because he unlawfully targets figures like the left-wing, democratic Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu; there is an oppressive regime in our country, and I do not like it at all.

The way he exploits religion for political gain works like this: once, while addressing America, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "If they have their dollars, we have our Allah."

Isn't that absurd? He has managed to stay in power for years with tactics like that. Now that he realizes his time is up, he has started to get scared.

pressure of forced choice

I received an Asperger’s syndrome diagnosis because this diagnosis is still given in my country. When I use this term, neurotypical people accuse me of being a N•zi sympathizer (even though I am not a N•zi sympathizer; I only use the term because it is the diagnosis I was given).

However, when I say “autism,” neurotypical people look at me with pity and treat me as though I were severely disabled. When you mention autism in a social setting, people may even act as though you are crazy and tell you that you have lost your mind.

(The clearest example of this was when I broke my finger: while my mother was waiting at the hospital, she told the nurses that I had a form of autism. The nurses looked at me with pity, and when I went to get an X-ray, they took me in first and gave me strange looks.)

I hate that my mother tells other people about my diagnosis. Seven people in my social circle learned about my diagnosis within eight months.

Including people such as; municipal police, nurses the number exceeds ten in eight months if I count people outside my social circle.

I think the WHO bringing all of us together under the “spectrum” forces us into a choice: either we look like N•zi sympathizers or we are perceived as people with severe disabilities. I feel as though I am being pressured into one of two roles: either I will be seen as a N•zi supporter, or I will be seen as severely disabled.

Has anyone ever regretted sharing their Asperger's diagnosis with someone?

I regretted telling someone about my diagnosis.

I sent a photo of my diagnosis to a childhood friend (trusting him)—which might have been one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made.

I shouldn't have told him; I realized I had made a mistake only after I had already done so. Seven people found out about my diagnosis over the course of eight months. I voluntarily told only one person, and I deeply regretted doing even that.

He wasn't supposed to find out about this—though I realized that too late. To be fair, he might not be interested in talking to me because he’s taking the university entrance exam this year, but I definitely shouldn't have told him about my diagnosis. The same childhood friend—the only person who truly loves me—thought it was strange.

I already regretted getting the diagnosis in the first place.

diagnosis report renewal

Since ICD-10 is used in my country, I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome at the Madalyon Clinic in Levent in December 2025.

My question is directed at people living in countries where ICD-11 is used.

I was issued a document citing code F84.5. When I go to renew my medical report in the future, will they renew it under F84.5 or under 6A02.0?

For those living in countries using ICD-11 who had previously been diagnosed with Asperger's, how was their report classification updated?

Thanks to everyone who answers my question.

Strange Behaviors

I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome at the Madalyon Clinic in Levent in December 2025.

The diagnosis bothered me. I am also bothered by the “absurd, strange behaviors” that neurotypical people point out in me.

I don't realize when I'm doing these absurd things; I only become aware of them when my mother mentions them. And it becomes very embarrassing when I do them in a place where I shouldn't.

That’s when the way even complete strangers view me changes.

I don't mask. Masking feels incredibly exhausting. I get tired enough in my daily life as it is, but masking drains me even more.

I would definitely love to be neurotypical because living like this is truly exhausting. I’m sick of being tired all the time. I’m also fed up with feeling like a hamster trapped in the same endless cycle.

I don't want to be this way. The diagnosis upset me, and I don't do these “strange” behaviors intentionally. I can't even tell what is considered strange and what isn't. Living like this is exhausting, and I'm tired of feeling stuck in the same endless cycle.

neden bu hayatı böyle yaşamak zorundayım?

Öncelikle şunu belirteyim; küçüklüğümden beridir yaşadığım hemen hemen her psikolojik sıkıntımı buraya yazacağım. uzun olacak okumak istemiyorsanız direkt geçebilirsiniz. Ancak okuyun çünkü okumak 10 dakikanızı almaz. Yazmak neredeyse 45 dakikamı aldı

Tüm değerlerim Atatürkçülüğüm üzerine büyük yemin ederim burada yazılan her şey gerçektir.

Direkt İCD-11'in Türkiye'ye gelme ihtimali en büyük korkumdur. Aşırı etkiliyor bu süreç beni.

forced acts of kindness

At my family's insistence, I went to a psychiatrist with my family; since Asperger's syndrome is still diagnosed in my country, I received an Asperger's diagnosis at the Madalyon Clinic in Levent, Istanbul.

It has been eight months since I was diagnosed. Far from feeling any sense of relief, the diagnosis actually made me feel worse.

The way my family looks at me has changed. My mother follows mothers of children with low-functioning autism on Instagram and shows them to me, saying, "This child looks like you." She told me, "I liken you to those children."

Recently, when my father wasn't treating me well, my mother said to him, "I think you've forgotten that the child was diagnosed with Asperger's; he's on the spectrum, so don't view him as 'normal'."

When I heard this, I asked my mother why she did it, and she said it was for my own good. I find it impossible to believe that this is for my own good. If she is doing this out of kindness, I think it’s a hollow kind of kindness, because I certainly don't see it that way.

I am sick of hollow kindness and fake smiles. If you aren't actually doing something good for me, then don't do it; it just comes across as ridiculous and insincere.

Why is this happening?

I had another incident recently. While I was walking along the beach, people passing by started making snide remarks at me out of nowhere—even though I hadn't done anything to them and was just walking normally. My family was with me, too.

I had experienced something like this before. It happened when I was little and walking home with my mother; a group of five people came up to me and said things like, "Don't trust your mom; we'll beat you up."

When I was in first grade, I was at odds with everyone. I didn't even know why they were hostile toward me—they just were. Everyone acted aggressively.

Just as I was starting third grade, the class was making models of the Earth out of modeling clay. I had started school two days late that year. There was a teacher of mine—and a classmate who would later become my enemy. My teacher simply asked that classmate to give me some modeling clay—yes, that was it. My teacher asked, and from that day on, that child became my enemy. His older sister even told the whole class not to let me come to his birthday party.

I had met the elementary school friend I trusted enough to show a photo of my Asperger's diagnosis back in fourth grade. He didn't react well to it, but I made the mistake of trusting him anyway. He was the only decent friend I had in my life—the only person I could call and talk to—so I trusted him. He had protected me; he was the only one who did—yes, the only person in the entire class.

I was expelled from school in eighth grade. When my family tried to enroll me, the school refused to accept me. Teachers and students had banded together to try to get me kicked out, simply because they didn't want me there. My family issued a legal warning, and I was forcibly enrolled.

I’ve been through all sorts of absurd situations; everyone has treated me with hostility up until now. After these events, my family took me to the Madalyon Clinic in Levent. Since the term "Asperger's" is still used in my country, I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Although the ICD-10 system is used in my country, the diagnostic framework allows for multiple diagnoses; consequently, I also have diagnoses of ADHD and OCD.

Apart from the Madalyon Clinic, I also went to Koç University, and I visited another doctor's clinic located on the upper floors of the Akasya Mall complex.

Is this the reason for everything? I am so exhausted from going through this; I just want to be treated like a normal person. Why am I treated this way? I don't do anything to anyone—absolutely nothing. I feel like I give off negative energy.
