Hey. This is just more of a curiosity question than anything. I want to see how other people do it.

For me personally, I just get an idea and start writing. Even if I have to do multiple chapters and whatnot to get to that point. I don’t map out what I want to write about, just go with the flow. Maybe a rough outline if I feel like it.

So, in short: Do you map out your stories beforehand? Go with the flow? Create bullet points? Make multiple drafts?

I know that Fanfic writing isn’t like writing a book and has plenty of predetermined things. But I’m just curious lol. Might want to take a few notes.

Hey, first time poster here. Lmk if I did anything wrong.

So, I just started the IB program. English isn’t my first language nor is it for most of my teachers. Thus making it hard for me to understand the material they are talking about. I know I’ll have to study a lot in my free time because of it.

My main question is: what are some good YouTube channels to help study the IB material?

My HL subjects are chem, bio and psych. SL are Spanish ab initio and Math AA.

I know Kognity and Revision Dojo have the materials. I just prefer not to spend any more money than I have to after paying the Kognity license fee.

I’ve done some googling but the results are a bit overwhelming lol. So, I turned to Reddit.

Hey, first time poster here. Lmk if I did anything wrong. This topic recently came up for me again. So, I decided to turn to reddit.

I’ve always been a casual reader. Not someone who has to read X amount of books per year or someone who makes it their entire personality.

But whenever I say that I can calmly read like 300+ pages of a normal sized book book with no pictures, graphs, etc. within a few hours, people look at me like I’ve gone insane. Which basically equates to me finishing a book in a single sitting. Is it really that weird?

I know some people who can read like 1k pages in a ridiculously short amount of time.

For me personally, if it’s a good book, I have no problems finishing it. Even with small breaks.

But my friends always make it sound like I’m some kind of a reading witch for reading this fast lol.

So, I have to ask: how fast do you read as a casual reader?

PS: yes, I know the term ‘casual reader’ can be very broad. This is just my interpretation.

So I recently decided to finish an old fanfic of mine that I never ended up finishing nor even releasing. And today I actually sat down to read it again.

My god. Younger me was in a whole different world. It was initially written 3 years ago, probably more. And I thought it was my best work yet back then.

Now reading it again, my jaw’s on the floor. I haven’t written anything since I last wrote that 3 years ago. But even then I can tell it’s absolutely horrendous. Who allowed me to write a fanfic with purely formal, big boy words in a “this happened, then that, and this, etc.” manner? With so many grammar mistakes. Aka my biggest pet peeve.

This is going to be a piece of work to rewrite now lol.

What are some of your favourite hobbies for on the go?

If you know you’ll be somewhere where you’d have plenty of time to spare, what would you bring with you? Like work, school, travel, commute, etc. For hobbies on the go, it definitely has to be something easy to carry around.

I love mind games/puzzle books, so I usually bring like a Sudoku or word search booklet. Or my latest knitting project depending on the size.

I would love to find something new to do during my free moments to lower my phone usage.

The weirder the hobby, the better imo lol.

Do you listen to music/podcasts? Stare out into the horizon in pure silence? Crosswords, sudokus, etc? Knitting, crochet, embroidery, sketch, etc? Watch movies/shows? Play on your phone? Read a book? Anything else?

EDIT: I forgot that way bigger diamond paintings exist. My bad. For those I definitely understand using some of these. The biggest I’ve personally done is 30x40 cm bcs I wouldn’t finish them otherwise lol

1. Release paper.
I’ve never understood this one. Maybe it’s because I do one colour at a time. But I see people using exacto knives to cut them to make sections. I’d definitely be afraid of cutting it too deep and damaging the painting itself.
More often than not, I just think keeping the original plastic would be easier.

2. Storage containers
Again, it might be because I do one colour at a time. But I’ve never had issues with the little baggies. Don’t the containers take up so much space? What do you do when you want to work on multiple projects? Are they even worth it for the smaller projects?

3. Multiplacers
This might be controversial but I genuinely don’t get the hype. I’ve given them a shot and hated them. Placing drills one at a time is relaxing imo. Besides, these are diamond paintings. There’s literally no need to rush through them, no?

That’s all I can think of right now. However, I do admit I upgraded some of my tools when I began. Like got me a better pen because my hand cramped with the cheap plastic ones. Alongside a bigger tray. That’s it.

Imo, it’s a cheap hobby. I usually get them on Shein and stuff because buying it elsewhere is 1) expensive & 2) usually AI slop. I know Shein is too but it has a bigger variety and cheaper ones.

So, to keep it brief, I used to be a huge anime nerd back in 2020-2021 and started fanfics I never ended up finishing. All because I got into a massive anime slump. Didn’t watch anything

Well, I’m back now and looking to get into it once more.

I recently got really into HxH again and then remembered the fanfic I began writing. Back then I had only watched the 2011 ver. of the show and now I finally watched the 1999 ver.

I had the beginning written and I still kinda remember what I was planning on doing story wise. But I don’t really know how to get back into writing it.

My current plan is to write the entire or at least most of the fanfic and then start releasing it. I was thinking of either releasing 3-5 chapters in one go weekly or release the entire thing all at once.

I’m the type that just can’t sit down and watch a movie. I need something to do with my hands.

That was when I found out about diamond paintings. And my god has it been a game changer.

Every few months, I order a few paintings from Shein or something for cheap and just put them away until I want to do them. I prefer Shein because all the ones available in stores near me are AI slop. For ridiculous prices too.

I always do my diamond paintings while watching movies or TV shows. They keep me occupied and later become nice display pieces on my walls.

Side note: I'm working on watching all the studio ghibli movies and want to take a break from them.

I don't know what to classify my tastes as... so, here's a list of the ones I enjoy in no particular order.

1. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
2. School Babysistters/Gakuen Babysitters
3. Ouran High School Host Club
4. Castle In the Sky
5. Porco Rosso
6. Sk8 The Infinity
7. Classroom of The Elite
8. Hunter X Hunter

That's just to name a couple. But I'm open to pretty much anything. However, I prefer ones that aren't too action packed.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

First time poster here. But I just couldn’t pass up the chance to talk about my latest thrift find. (I don’t have anyone else to talk to about this :,))

Where I am from finding well-known TV shows and movies on DVD is super hard. So, imagine my surprise when I literally found DVDs for the show “Orange is the new black” for only 4€.

I’ve never seen that show or know anything about it. But even I could tell that that was a bargain. I’m not fully sure which season it is but it is a full season I believe. Because it does literally have 5 discs in the case.

Now, I think I’m obligated to start watching the series lol.

I’m very much of the mindset that if I don’t like the movie I bought a DVD of, I can just sell it again and give it a new home. 🤷‍♀️

So, I have finished with my first scripts and have everything ready for my first recording. I initially planned on using Audacity as that’s what everyone had recommended to me. But it’s not for me. It didn’t work very well and I ended up frustrated with it. I also tried Riverside and nope, that didn’t work out either.

Does anyone have recommendations any other free recording and editing software that I can use? Otherwise, I’ll probably end up using my phone’s mic to record and CapCut to edit my audio.

It’s my first time posting on this subreddit, so I’m sorry if I do anything wrong.

So, to get straight to the point, I need recommendations. I just can’t stand listening to music during my routes to school and work or at work and I love listening to podcasts. But I haven’t found a podcast that just sticks for one reason or another. I’ve listened to a few of the more popular ones but I ended up DNF-ing them. Notably, the most recent contenders are:

1. Crime Junkie — Listened to them for ages until I got tired of the repetitive stories. Not to offend anyone but I felt like every story just became so predictable. Not to mention the freaking ads. Couldn’t take it anymore and just gave up on it. The earlier episodes were chefs kiss but as the podcast progressed it started to become more like they were trying so hard to be reporters.

2. Rotten Mango — With the episodes being over an hour long, I thought that it would be like a deep dive podcast. But nope. Most of it was absolute nonsense (aka banter) and I honestly couldn’t just tolerate the fact that the host didn’t even try to pronounce certain names right. Specifically Russian names. And the freaking ads again. They were always in the most inconvenient places and unnecessary. Yes, I get a girl needs to make dough but seriously.

If you have any recommendations, please tell me and I’d be eternally grateful. 🙏
