Vacant property Utilities

I live in UK. I was a tenant on a property and the agreement ran from July 2026 to July 2026. I have left the property a month early ie 27th June.

So for the month of July, Will i still be liable for council tax and utilities ( I have informed my provider that i have moved out of the property on 15th of June 2026 already as we had secured another rental in a different utilities and council area ).

Any advice is helpful.

What are the restricted time for non permit holders in attached image?

I live in an apartment that has this parking instruction in the street. How would you interpret this ?

A) Non Permit holders can only park for one hour mon to Friday 11am to 12 noon.

Or

B) Non permit holders can park at any time except mon - Friday 11am to 12 noon ?

(RANT) Recently joined Hyperoptic

As the title suggests i joined Hyperoptic yesterday, the back office team activated my internet. Happy days ? errr NO.

The internet worked for about 20 minutes and then died all together. There was no lights on the router (see pic one).Today one of their contractor engineers showed up, worked around cluelessly for 2 hours. Managed to restore the connection to the communications panel in basement (See Pic 2 ). Told me it will take 2 hours for the internet to be restored and activated. I am literally a sitting duck at the moment without internet.

Before this I struggled for 3 weeeks with virgin media trying to install at the flat. Think my internet hopes are fucked, and to rub salt to my wounds i work from home, so i am basically fucked and stuck to using mobile data now.

Now i don’t want to sound like an impatient entitled prick, but Hyperoptic customer care have not given any solid response so far. What should i do, should i wait like a dickhead or should i keep contacting the customer care hoping yo get a response ?

Trying to order sky connection, need some support

These are the wall mounted sky and BT socket i have found in my new rental. Can anyone please let me know if these sockets are enough for me yo go ahead and order a new sky connection, or would i need to book an engineer visit also to the flat ?

Thanks in advance.

Moving to an apartment

I am moving from my place in north east to an apartment in Birmingham. While discussing home move with virgin media rep online. I managed to negotiate a better deal and decided to change my contract while i move house ( got Mega TV, M500 VOLT + Sky sports for 55/ month).

Now it turns out that the new flat doesn’t have a virgin media huh installed. I will be moving to an apartment complex. I have a mate living in same complex and seen that he has a hyper-optic connection. And many flats in that building have hyperoptic connection.

My flat is on ground floor and i would like to ask the techs in this forum how difficult is it really for the engineer to install a faceplate ? Do i have to rake permission if building management company to facilitate installation ?

What is the use of this white wires on the side of railway tracks?

I have seen these white wires at multiple railway stations in the north east region mainly and have not been able to make head or tail of why they are used. Would appreciate it if anyone can explain what that is.

What is something a non brit in the UK has said or done that genuinely surprised you, specifically because it was so different from what you have generally experienced previously ?

I want to know your specific stories from things that have baffled you. I will go first, i am not a british national and didn’t grow up in the UK.

In my culture it is pretty common to call and have a chat with my mum every single day. I used to go pub often with my mates and they observed a pattern where i used to get a call every day around 5pm and when i explained them it was just me catching up with my mum everyday, a lot of my mates were quite surprised to know i called my mum everyday without fail as most of them they only spoke to their families once a week or have never kept in touch for a long while.

Am I doing Something wrong ?

Alright fellas, I will be moving from lincoln to brum in a month’s time. My current insurance costed me roughly 744£ for the whole year (Insured through go skippy for my Vx astra 2016). I was trying to change my address on the insurance policy. The moment i changed my address on the policy , the insurance company has given me a quote of 600 pounds to make the change of address on my policy. What am i doing wrong , is insuring for a birmingham address that expensive ?

I am moving to an area near five ways ( Bath row ). Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
