Does anyone else hate the trend of putting sunscreen in makeup?

If you know anything about sunscreen you’ll know you’re supposed to use quite a lot to get the advertised protection. If you used that much of a tinted moisturizer/foundation with spf it would look ridiculous because you’re not supposed to use that much of a complexion product. So why do they keep putting it in products??? I’ve tried so many makeup products with spf added in and they all look horrible, somehow the sunscreen just makes the product not perform as well, it’s either greasy, or drying, smelly, chalky, breaks apart much faster during the day, etc. I’ve never enjoyed a makeup product with spf as much as one without, it just makes more sense to use a dedicated sunscreen underneath your makeup, especially since you’re probably not getting much protection from the amount you’re using when it’s makeup.

This rant is fueled by my annoyance of one of my favorite products, Laura merciers oil free matte tinted moisturizer being reformulated. It’s genuinely so hard to find oily skin friendly skin tints and tinted moisturizers because they’re all glowy and marketed towards dry skin these days, this was one of the only products that worked for me, but they reformulated to add spf 30 and it’s genuinely awful now…dry and chalky and cakey, breaks apart incredibly fast now. Just leave makeup makeup and skincare skincare please! If I wanted a chalky mineral sunscreen I would buy one instead of my favorite Korean sunscreens!

Powder foundation for oily skin?

My skin has gotten insanely oily these days, I’ve been a natural makeup lover forever and my old favorites just do not work for me all anymore. I have very sensitive skin and so for the longest time I was obsessed with the light, serum like, hydrating, no makeup makeup skin tints and concealers.

When my skin started getting oily I tried some of the more matte liquid and cream products I see recommended, and they just aren’t for me, most were so thick and heavy, plus so many matte and oil control products rely on drying alcohols and other ingredients my skin doesn’t tolerate well.

I’ve been wondering about powder foundations lately, it’s powder so it would be matte and oil controlling naturally without using harsh and drying ingredients. Plus I could really sheer it out and make it a very light coverage how I like it. I imagine it would be fairy easy to touch up during the day as well.

I just don’t know where to start with it or if it’s a good idea, I quite literally never hear anyone talk about powder foundation anymore. I know it was very popular back in the day and I remember trying some cover girl powder foundation in middle school and hating it because it was the most cakey thing I had ever put on my face.

Does anyone still use powder foundations? If so what do you recommend? :)

The new tower 28 foundation and weird influencer marketing

Now I’ll be honest, I’m definitely going to be trying the new tower 28 foundation when it comes out because I’m just too intrigued not to, but this launch has just made me trust Influencer’s even less…if that’s even possible.

I heard the rumors of a foundation launch from tower 28 and the first thing I did was try and find out any information that I could get my hands on, I love their concealer and haven’t found a foundation that I actually like yet so I’m very interested!

There’s not that many videos yet because it’s just been announced, but every single one starts with the same exact opening of “omggg you guysss I sure hope I’m not leaking this product!!! I don’t know if I’m allowed to be posting this! Hope I don’t get in trouble!” The fact that every video starts like this just tells me that tower 28 probably told these influencers to say this specific line to drum up more excitement.

I don’t know why this is annoying me so much, I realize influencers lie about so many more serious things and this is so minuscule in comparison, but it’s just the fact that they’ll lie about something so small…I’m like why???

They could say anything else like “I think I’m the first one posting about this? I’m assuming it’s okay to post about it because they sent it to me!” Or just plain old “tower 28 sent me this new exiting unreleased foundation!” But since all of them parrot the exact same opening line I’m wondering what else they’re parroting, are their opinions on the product even real or have they been told what to say about it like they’ve clearly been told to lie about not being allowed to post about it.

Would low bridge fit glasses work for someone that actually has a bridge?

So, I do have a pretty prominent nose bridge and a big nose, as far as I know low bridge fit glasses have longer nose pads and sit farther away from your cheeks for those who don’t have much of a bridge so that the glasses aren’t smashed into their face and sliding down all the time.

Before anyone suggests it, I can’t get glasses with adjustable nose pads due to sensory problems, my prescription is very heavy and all that weight in two tiny spots drives me crazy and gives me migraines. Although I’m sad about that because glasses with adjustable nose pads don’t give me the problem I’m having.

My problem with regular fit glasses even though I do have a big nose bridge is that I have super long lashes and very high and prominent cheek bones, I’m forced to wear my glasses very low on my nose or else they smash into my lashes and cheeks (yes even with professional adjusting and no they aren’t large oversized glasses)

My local glasses shop doesn’t have any low bridge fit options in store to try on, but after I found a pair I liked and mentioned my problem the lady working there she said they could order that same pair but in a low bridge fit for me….problem is I have to order it with my prescription and then it’s not returnable, no way for me to just try them on.

Should I give it a go? I’m not all that knowledgeable in low bridge fit and the lady wasn’t much help in answering my questions. My main concern is it possibly pinching my nose since it’s not exactly meant for my nose shape? Is the width different than regular fit glasses or are the nose pads just longer?

Thanks to anyone who has advice!

I don’t know what’s wrong with me

I am so painfully lonely, I want to have friends and go do things with other people…but anytime I have the opportunity I don’t want it anymore.

This has happened countless times over the course of my life, I’ll have no friends…and after so long I’ll get so incredibly lonely all I want is a friend, but if I make a friend it’s so hard for me to maintain that friendship I eventually decide that it’s just too much for me, and I’d rather be alone…and then after being alone I’m lonely again and the cycle continues.

Having friends is so much work for me and I don’t understand how it’s so easy for everyone else, it’s not that I didn’t care about my friends, but I genuinely couldn’t handle how often I had to be around them in order to maintain the friendship, I would get so burnt out.

For example a friend would invite me out, I already don’t want to go because of anxiety but if I force myself I’ll usually have a pretty good time, but once I come home I’m done for at least a month…but that friend is already inviting me out again the next weekend. And after so long of declining invites people don’t want to invite me anymore, and the friendship fizzles out.

For me…going out and doing things…even just having a super long conversation over the phone is enough to burn me out and that’s enough socializing for me for the month! But other people expect to socialize with their friends all the time, everyday almost…and it’s not a big exhausting ordeal for them.

I’m like a desert cactus in a world of tropical rainforest plants, I still need water…but not as often as them, and if I try to water myself as much as them it feels detrimental.

I know this makes no sense, I don’t understand it myself and I wish I knew why I was like this so I could fix it.

Is this dry flakey skin normal?

I got my ears pierced for the first time a month and a half ago, my piercer put in titanium flat back studs. Everything seemed to be fine until just recently, while they were still very fresh I was using neilmed spray twice a day and then gently drying, then I switched to once every other day and otherwise just letting the warm water in the shower wash over them, and still gently drying them after. I haven’t noticed any pain, swelling, redness, oozing or anything like that, just a lot of dry flakey skin front and back, also it’s getting pretty itchy.

Am I overusing the spray? Underusing? Any other ideas of what this could be? I of course sent an email asking my piercer about this but they aren’t open for the next 3 days so I doubt I will receive a response until Monday so I thought I’d ask here as well in the meantime.

A recommendation for those struggling to find a moisturizer

Lately everything has been burning and stinging my skin, I have no idea what’s going on but even my tried and true moisturizers have started suddenly making me react. Maybe it’s too early to recommend this but I picked this up at Walmart 2 days ago in a moment of desperation thinking it’s for babies so it has to be gentle right??? So far so good, typically my face has been getting a hot/burning feeling right after I apply moisturizer, this did slightly sting in an open wound (cat scratch) on my face, but it didn’t keep stinging for more than a second and then the rest of my face felt very soothed. Haven’t tried it under makeup yet but it’s playing nicely with my other skincare products. This is a heavier moisturizer than I typically would use, I usually prefer gels, but with how compromised my barrier has been I think the extra hydration has been working well, no breakouts so far but it’s only been 2 days so I’ll keep you guys updated on that.

[Misc] Can we talk about how ridiculous drugstore brand prices are getting?

Since when is some adapalene and benzoyl peroxide from an established drugstore brand almost $43??? A few years ago I got an actual prescription for epiduo from my dermatologist and it cost me about $25.

I’ve noticed drugstore brands prices going up for a while now and at this point I’m getting shocked when I see new release after new release starting at $17, $20, $25, $30 or more. These are prices I expect from Sephora brands, not drugstore.

You know I understand things are getting more expensive in general and brands have to raise prices a bit to accommodate for rising production costs, but my understanding only goes so far, I’ve dropped products that I’d been using for years and years because the prices went up too much for me and I had to find cheaper alternatives, I’ve gotten so tired of spending entire paychecks on hygiene products and I refuse to do it anymore.

Is it okay to use Hypochlorous acid and Azelaic acid together?

My derm prescribed me 15% Azelaic acid gel a few months ago, it seems to be helping the overall redness but I’m still struggling with texture and tiny whiteheads. I heard hypochlorous acid was good for that so I bought a bottle of magic molecule spray.

I only used it once so far, after cleansing and drying my face I sprayed and let it dry completely before applying my Azelaic acid and moisturizer. Now this might just be coincidental but I felt like my base redness was much worse that day. So I did some googling and found out that hypochlorous acid can deactivate things like vitamin c.

I couldn’t find any research about hypochlorous acid and azelaic acid specifically so I’m just asking y’all based on personal experience, if you use these 2 do you notice a difference or notice one canceling out the other?

Anyone else feel sad before/during their birthday?

My birthday is tomorrow and I’ve been in a funk all week because of it, this happens every year no matter how much I try to turn my attitude around and enjoy it.

For some reason my birthday just takes me back to being that “weird” little girl in school that nobody really liked. For the most part I like being alone but on birthdays and other special occasions I feel a deep sadness and longing for community.

Being autistic has always made it difficult for me to make friends…and to maintain the few friendships I was able to make. Birthdays just remind me of that fact when I realize I have nobody to spend it with.

There’s actually a lot of things that I like about being autistic…but struggling with relationships and social skills is not one of them :(

Has anyone else’s periods changed over time?

When I first started my period (9 years old) I bled for about a year straight, and it was incredibly heavy, my doctor had to put me on birth control to make it stop. I stayed on it for about a year and then went off of it because my doctor wanted to see if my hormones had stabilized. After that my periods were regular, always came at the same time and lasted exactly 7 days, but they were still extremely heavy and it was miserable.

Now I’m 20, and my periods are drastically different, they changed a couple years ago and have been this way ever since, I have no idea if it’s normal because I’ve never heard of someone having a period like me. Of course I’ll bring it up with my doctor when I get a Pap smear at 21 but for now I’m not immediately worried about it.

My periods really only last a day now, the heaviest I’ll bleed is the first day but even that is probably only about a tablespoon the entire day. I always have intense back pain but medium painful cramps for the first 5 hours of my period, then I have zero cramps after that but the back pain will persist for a few days. I use a light flow tampon and after my cramps stop if I remove it, there’s barely any blood, but I have almost all of my uterine lining stuck to it. There’s always about 3-4 very large pieces of uterine lining…I assume it’s the entire lining since I don’t have any more cramps after that and for the next couple days I just have extremely light spotting and my period is essentially over and the lining is shed.

Does anyone else have periods like this?

[Misc] reviews really suck

I’m getting so annoyed at reviews under products anymore, I mean there’s already the risk of reviews being paid/fake/bots made to make a product seem better than it is, but also a lot of people just suck at reviewing products.

Something I notice a lot is bad reviews saying absolutely nothing about the actual product itself but instead that it’s “small”, do people not look at the fl oz or ml before they buy something? I know I’m getting a 1.7 fl oz product when I buy a 1.7 fl oz product because I actually check. I understand a review saying “this product is just too expensive for the amount you get and it’s not worth it” I see nothing wrong with that, but I get so annoyed at those reviews that are just like “zero stars, the bottle is small!”

And the thing I probably encounter the most and what annoys me the most…are people buying something clearly not meant for them and then giving it a bad review. Now I’m not talking about a review that says “hey this just doesn’t work for dry skin maybe if you have oily skin it would work better” I’m talking about those people that leave reviews on something labeled “extremely lightweight, oil control, matte, gel moisturizer” saying “DO NOT BUY THIS! It’s horrible, not hydrating at all for my extremely dry Sahara desert skin, worst product in the world!”

Why would you even buy a product like that if you have dry skin only to give it a bad review because it was meant for very oily skin??? I have extremely oily skin, I’m not going to buy a super hydrating thick barrier butter and then say it’s a horrible product when it’s clearly not meant to work for my skin type anyway.

Ugh and then there’s the reviews that say “5 stars haven’t tried it yet but I know it’ll be great” how could you possibly know that if you haven’t tried it??? You couldn’t spend a day at least testing it before you reviewed it?
