Finally Completed Metroid Prime 4, some thoughts as a newcomer

I know I’m a bit late to the party with this game.

Just some context to begin with, I’m pretty much a Metroid beginner here. The only Metroid game I played through before was Metroid Zero Mission on the GBA. I also played some Prime Remastered but kept getting lost and confused what to do/where to go etc.

Metroid Prime 4 is far from perfect but I think it’s a good beginners entry into the prime series.

There’s a weird dichotomy about this game where it feels incredibly polished (amazing graphics, controls, performance etc) but the overall game seems unfinished or extremely rushed. This is one of the most graphically unique and beautiful games I’ve seen period. One pet peeve is Samus looks so cool in this game I wish it had a third person view sometimes.

The game does have quite a few high moments, the bosses were fun. The desert is tedious.

The quality of this game is very front loaded, first few areas were good but gradually the game kept getting worse and more tedious. Story was basically non existent imo.

I still overall enjoyed my time with this game and I am going to try playing through Metroid Prime Remastered now.

I love physical media

Recent pickups! The recent events kinda galvanized me to do this. I own starfox digitally but decided to get the physical anyway tbh.

All on cartridge and work immediately, no installs or downloads required!

We need to appreciate this way more while it lasts!

Digimon Story Time Stranger or Granblue Fantasy Endless Ragnarok

I’m planning on getting one of these games when they release in July on Switch 2. They release one day apart from each other.

Just for reference I’m currently replaying Xenoblade 1 through the Switch 2 edition and it’s one of my favorite franchises. Granblue fantasy has an aesthetic that reminds of Xenoblade 2 but I feel kinda intimidated when people say it’s a monster hunter-like game since I’m more of a single player story JRPG player.

I’m also kinda nostalgic for Digimon as I watched the anime series as a kid but never actually played any of the games.

My favorite JRPG franchises are Xenoblade, Final Fantasy and SMT/Persona games.. I also really like most of the Pokemon games.

Happy to hear your thoughts!

Xenoblade Chronicles Switch 2 Edition Screenshots

Every screenshot in this game looks like a different fantasy painting. This game is in my top 3 favorite games ever and this is my 3rd playthrough.

Xenoblade Chronicles was a Wii game that punched way above its weight, and the Switch 2 Edition finally gives us a decent resolution to look at this world.

I started with the Wii version and then the switch remake.

Digimon Story Time Stranger Switch 2 vs PS5 Comparison

This is quite an interesting video as the demo for the switch 2 version has a 60 fps mode which wasn’t on the PS5 version which was somehow locked to 30 fps.

They will release the 60 fps mode on the PS5 version with the release of the switch 2 port.

This is one of the weirdest decisions I have seen from Bandai Namco. The fact they got a switch 1 version running but somehow released the ps5 port without a performance mode.

Digimon Story Time Stranger Demo out on US eShop

Haven’t seen any announcements of this. Tried out the performance mode and it seems pretty good at 60 fps.

FF7 Rebirth on Switch 2 looks better than I expected — a few screenshots from my playthrough

Screenshots are from docked mode.

Looking at how good this game looks I’m really excited to see what the Zelda team and MonolithSoft can do with the hardware.

Finally cleared FF7 Remake on Hard — all 18 chapters done, 72 hours in. Chapter 17 nearly broke me but we made it

That was fun

Accidentally turned my Switch 2 into an FF7 machine

Can’t wait for part 3! Rebirth is probably gonna keep me busy all summer.

Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition is NOT a Switch 2 Edition game

Square Enix went out of their way to release it as Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition to avoid the “Switch 2 edition” label.

This way they can:

  1. Not offer an upgrade path for people who have a Switch 1 Copy. ( All other Switch 2 edition games offer an upgrade path)

  2. Release it as a Game Key Card, to my knowledge all Switch 2 Edition games are required to be a proper physical which work on both Switch 1 and Switch 2

This is just pure greed from Square Enix. They are basically pulling an Atlus move and even save data is not transferable.

[SSHD] Just Completed Skyward Sword for the first time ever, I’ve been missing out

I tried playing Skyward Sword a few times, I had it on Wii and I’ve had the hd version for a couple of years but I always dropped the game around the second dungeon.

This time I decided to continue and I’m so glad I did. This is one of the most charming games I have ever played. The story genuinely got to me around half way through the game and the characters are super likable.

God damn do I miss classic dungeons, this game really reminded me how good they can be I think at least 5 of the dungeons in this game are top tier.

The combat in this game I think is the best in the series and it’s kind of sad we will probably never see iterations of this combat system in the future.

My only gripe about this game is that its pacing and level design can be a bit too dense. Almost every area in this game is dungeon like and it made me feel mentally fatigued as soon as I reached a dungeon. I think the game would have benefitted from a bit more down time and chill exploration.

I hope to play through hero mode whenever I feel like replaying this game.

I am genuinely in awe of how they got this game running and looking this well especially in handheld mode.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the game that finally pushed me into getting a PS5 in 2024 and remains my most played game on that console.

I was skeptical when they announced the game and was wondering how the game would look on Switch 2 I thought it would be similar to Witcher 3 on switch 1 levels of cutbacks but I was pleasantly surprised.

Can’t wait for June 3rd!
