Waking up at 4:30 am every day?

I've been taking 10mg of Abilify for about 2 weeks now. Every single morning since then, I wake up around 4:30am, even after taking 2 melatonin at night. This is new for me, I usually sleep through the night.

I can usually go back to sleep after an hour or so reading, but still, I'm bipolar and I don't think its good for my sleep hygiene.

Does anyone else experience this? Has anyone found a remedy?

Album recs for indie movie theater?

I work at a historic independent movie theatre in the US and I like to play foreign music on the bluetooth in the lobby. in the past this has included Persian, Armenian, Argentine, Ethiopian, etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations for albums that might be on spotify or another streaming service that might be interesting, casual, and diverse music for our lobby?

Thank you!

Dreamwork

Hello all,

I’m a layperson so please forgive my ignorance.
I am wondering if there is any literature as to the mechanisms or reasoning behind what, in everyday material, gets filtered, and how it becomes part of a dream state?

I am familiar with Freud’s concepts of latent and manifest content. However, what interests me is the way of translation from perception, into the unconscious and become part of the dream? What is that logic?

Or any ways of working with individual dreams that might be helpful to mapping one’s unconscious?

Thank you!

Did anyone here come from the landlocked suburbs and move to a beach to learn to surf? How did you do it?? Like the logistics. did you find a job and then rent a place near a beach?

Sleep addiction

has Anyone else navigated this addiction to sleep? All I do is work and then sleep. I don’t want to do anything else!

I am medicated but maybe it’s not working if this is the case? Is this a medication issue or am I just screwed and doomed forever?

The feeling of not wanting to go to sleep

Is just that feeling of not wanting to go to sleep itself part of the beginning of hypomania? I WILL and DO go to sleep because I know I have to, but is that initial feeling indicative of a larger issue?

Sleeping all day?

I sleep almost all day. I work at night; not all night, just until 1. I can understand sleeping until maybe 11 am or something to catch up, but I’m waking up and then going back to sleep at 2 until I have to leave for work again.

I think it’s a little depression and a little boredom.

when I tried to talk to my psych about it, he recommended I do a sleep study (expensive), and didn’t seem to be concerned about depression, but I am. He’s hesitant to change my meds.

Is it a symptom of my meds? Is it depression? has anyone had this sleeping problem before? Thank you.

Enamored with people at work?

I work in a crowded public place for entertainment. I am constantly intrigued and interested in the customers. They all seem so mature and self assured. It leads me to be kind of enraptured in other people’s energies and vibes. I am worried though, that I’m staring at people and don’t want it to be creepy.

I’m just kind of entranced by other people. Is this normal? How do I deal with this? Maybe it’s because my life is so isolated? I don’t meet or know too many people.

Do you talk to your therapist in your head ?

Just wondering if this a symptom of relational issues or attachment or is part of a bipolar symptom? I talk to and process my thoughts with my therapist in my head and pretend she’s watching me (benevolently or neutrally).

How long did it take you to find the right meds?

I am not in active psychosis anymore, so I’m grateful for that… but my combo of meds have left me groggy and tired and depressed. But I'm too scared to try anything else!

has anyone else dealt with this? EDIT:: I want to stay ON meds of some kind, I’m just nervous about starting new ones

Still living with parents into adulthood?

I’m 32 and I still live with my parents after I dropped out of grad school. I truly don’t even know if I’ll ever be able to work enough hours to make enough rent to move out because of being so depressed. Will I ever move out? Who knows. But I’m starting to think it would be easier not to and resign myself to it.

Is anyone else still living at their parents or something similar because of bipolar? How do you feel about moving out?

Life After a Psychotic Break

Wondering how long it took people to recover fully from a psychotic break. What helped to contribute to your healing? Did your delusions or paranoia ever fully go away? Did you experience any lingering depression afterward?

How do you look back on that time? How do you conceptualize that part of yourself?

thank you!

Depressed after Break

I have bipolar 1. Around a year ago, I had a psychotic break and mania. I recovered from it, but it took about 6 months for the paranoia to subside. And since that time, I’ve fallen into a depression that’s classified by lethargy.

I just sleep as much as I can. I nap multiple times a day, sometimes I don’t get up until 4:30pm when I have to go to work.

my mood is relatively stable, I just cannot get my ass out of bed, like there are things I want to do. I want to go hiking. I want to read. But I just like to go into the oblivion of sleep instead. for all these months.

I can’t tell if my body and mind are still recovering from a frankly, traumatic, psychotic break or what?

i have a therapist and psychiatrist but they’re not helping too much. I’m also on meds; have been since the break.

any insight all you fellow bipolars might have for me? I am grateful for this sub!

When a guest spills but picks it up

In the lobby, as ticket taker, I often just stand and look around while I wait for people to buy concessions and make their way over to me.

this is a shoutout to all the guests who, when even just a single kernel of popcorn, or a straw wrapper, falls on the floor. They put their popcorn down or at least try their best to maneuver around it, as they reach down and pick it up to throw it away.

shoutout to all the guests who ask me for a broom or paper towels because they want to clean up what they spilled. (I never let them, but the fact that they ask is amazing).

thank you to those people! Warms my heart truly.

How to live with Regret

I am in my early 30s now, but when I remember my 20s, I’m filled with so much regret and humiliation in the ways that bipolar wrecked its havoc over me and my life. My relational difficulties were so bad, it was so hard for me to keep friends, and I was generally such a selfish person.

I feel I’ve made a lot of strides and done a lot of healing, and that I have new perspective that I didn’t have back then, but I often think of myself as a young person and feel so much dread.

one thing my therapist recommended for this is unconditional compassion for my younger self but I am still curious:

to any bipolar people on here who are older or have this experience, how do you cope?

rude tip customer

today an older man came to concessions, put a dollar in our tip basket, and then said "do people NOT tip you?" and we said "yea". and then he said "GOOD."

we were so confused, also what a miserable human being. someone said maybe he was joking but he did not appear to be joking and what kind of joke is that anyway?
