He aprés la vostra llengua.

Server-side hiccup

Just got this message from the AI job search:

The reranker is running into a persistent issue scoring results right now — it's pulling in 1,100+ jobs just fine but failing on the scoring pass. This is a service-side hiccup, not a problem with your search setup.

Coneixeu algun artista faller que no tinguera inconvenient a respondre unes quantes preguntes?

Hola!

Do you subscribe to any paid copywriting newsletters?

I'm curious if anyone here has subscribed to any paid copywriting newsletters, either now or in the past. For example, I know John Carlton has one and I imagine several others do. It doesn't necessarily have to be a physical newsletter, it can be digital too.

If you subscribe to one, what is it about it that keeps you subbed?

I què?

(PD: No estic intentant crear divisió ni buscar discussions.

Hiring in certain states

Some companies only hire in specific states even though the job is fully remote. It shows this on the career or application page and if possible I’d like to have the option to filter out remote jobs that don’t hire in my area.

Your startup probably doesn’t need more content. It may need a better strategy. Free review.

I’m offering a free content strategy review to a small number of startup founders.

I’ve worked in copywriting and content strategy for more than 25 years. My client list includes Kajabi, Originality AI, Canva and many more.

I’m especially good at finding the strategic issue hiding underneath the obvious content problem.

In other words, I’m not just going to tell you to post more, write better hooks, or start a newsletter.

I’ll look at things like:

— Whether your content makes it clear who your product is for
— Whether your positioning sounds meaningfully different from your competitors
— Whether the content connects naturally to your offer
— What your ideal buyer may be misunderstanding or overlooking
— Why your content might be getting views without generating interest
— What I’d prioritize next based on your current stage and goals

You’ll receive a written review with practical feedback you can use.

There’s no sales call, no obligation, and no awkward pitch at the end. I’m doing these because I’m building out more examples of my strategic teardown work.

I may ask whether I can use an anonymized version as a portfolio example, but nothing will be shared without your permission.

Interested?

Here's the form: https://forms.gle/JtQ3UCLmMBCnewDw6 (there are just a few questions)

I’ll choose the startups where I think I can provide the most useful feedback. Thank you! :)

(Side note for the mods: I'm not an agency or promoter. I'm the owner).

Strattera and voice loss

Hi! I’m on strattera 10 mg since May for ADHD and it has been an absolute godsend. One thing I’ve learned though is that it starts affecting my voice within hours. My doctor said to stop taking it for a week and see if my voice returned . It came back by the second day but by the third day the ADHD was back with a vengeance and I couldn’t stand it.

Apparently my brain is super sensitive to this stuff because such a small dose works beautifully, but I also don’t want to deal with my voice sounding like gravel forever. Does it eventually recover?

Eyebrows are now considered an AI tell

"Eyebrow" has been around for decades in the editorial and ad design world -- I've only recently heard it used in copywriting. We'd call them overlines, pre-heads, or preheaders. If you've been involved with newspapers, I'm talking about kickers.

And apparently they're now an AI tell. ISTG every few months the internet invents a new AI shibboleth. First it was AI dashes, the word "delve", "in today's fast-paced world"....

Now it's long sentences, short sentences, sentences in general, using emojis, perfect grammar, Oxford commas (!!) and now pre-heads.

I want to shout from the mountaintops: "GUYS! OGILVY WAS DOING THIS BEFORE YOUR PARENTS MET!"

Do you use eyebrows sorry I can't do it, pre-heads in your copy?

One of the most important copywriting skills you can learn has nothing to do with writing

After 25+ years of DR, brand and conversion copywriting, I want to share one of the most important skills I've learned, and that's to sit with the struggle.

I'm specifically talking about that moment where you're staring at a blank page and every headline sounds like every other headline on the market. Newer copywriters look at this and think they're stuck because they don't have enough information or they haven't done enough research.

Sometimes that's the case but more often than not it's that they haven't stayed with the problem long enough. And this is where psychology comes in -- our brains like serving up the easy stuff first. So you run through all the clichés, the familiar angles and the stuff you've read elsewhere.

The problem with that is that it makes your copy totally predictable.

The best stuff appears later, after you've churned through easy mode. Psychologists call these System 1 Thinking and System 2 Thinking respectively. System 1 is over here begging you to open another tab, browse TikTok or go make a snack. System 2 is the more logical, determined side that starts cross-referencing ideas across other industrires and hobbies and things you've seen.

Unfortunately, because of how the brain works, we have to slog through System 1 before we get to System 2, and that's where a lot of newer folks will break off and quit -- RIGHT before that breakthrough happens.

System 2 Thinking also burns a lot more energy, so it feels mentally and physically exhausting *BUT* when you get that great idea or concept, your brain rewards you with a little shot of dopamine, so the more you do it, the more you get rewarded. 😄

Many times when I'm writing, the first 20 headlines are hot garbage and suddenly Headline #21 is actually decent, and they just start improving from there. Try it out yourself and see how you go!

What kind of professional would you assume I am from this homepage?

I’m a senior creative strategist/copywriter refining my portfolio site and trying to make the homepage communicate my value more clearly and quickly.

The site is meant to position me more as:

  • a strategic creative thinker
  • someone focused on messaging/positioning/concepts
  • not just “a person who writes ads”

I’m especially interested in:

  • first impressions
  • what kind of professional you think I am
  • whether the site feels strategic vs purely creative
  • whether anything feels confusing or vague
  • whether the value proposition feels clear quickly

I’m less worried about small visual tweaks and more interested in positioning/perception.

Appreciate any honest feedback!

What does my chart show about the difference between the life I’ve built and the life that would feel more true to me? How can I move toward that without losing the stability I need?
