What kind of paint would you use for an outdoor mural of lightfastness is a concern?

So I know enough about fine art to be familiar with lightfastness, but I am wondering what folks use when they want to actually paint things that are going to be outside - murals, statues, whatever. I know everything fades eventually but what gives the best balance between longevity and cost effectiveness? I'm guessing the large scale murals people paint on buildings are using outdoor latex or spray paint but I could be wrong

what would my options be if I wanted to do something like that on a smaller scale and don't want to invest in 10 pints of latex paint?

Is there a trick to actually claiming Field Agent jobs

I just started using Field Agent and it seemed like it would be a good option for my area. Nothing is really worth leaving the house for, but if I'm already at a store that has a job, sure, I'll take some photos

But every time I try to actually claim jobs - every single time - it says they were already claimed by someone else. I basically managed to do the free McDonalds food job and nothing else.

Are there just too many people using the app around here?

Is a Singer Prisma HD worth $120

So, I know the reputation for Singer and their HD machines. I am a beginner, a novice, that wants to do some basic projects, but I tend to use thicker, heavier material. Think upholstery, denim, leather...

I see I can buy a Prisma for $120 and, to me, that seems like a good deal, but I am also aware I am probably setting myself up for disaster. My question is, if my budget is $100-150, what other machines should I be looking at? Again, mostly for heavier material, but mostly straight stitching construction.

Where can I buy graphic, modern patterned fabric?

I want to do some interior decorating and it's lead me down a rabbit hole. I have literally NO fabric stores locally outside of Hobby Lobby (not an option), and even if I did shop their, it's not really my aesthetic.

I really like bold patterns, geometric or natural motifs, bright colors.... basically the Scandinavian Ikea aesthetic. That lead me to discover that Ikea actually SELLS FABRIC and I am interested, but I am wondering if there are other options I can check out before I pull the trigger. The stuff on Ikea is like 8 out of 10 for me, but if there's another option I am missing, I'll check it out.

It doesn't have the be the most premium fabric in the world - I am looking to make curtains and an ottoman. But I'd prefer something with a fun pattern and I don't want to add "block printing my own fabric" on top of "making an ottoman".

EDIT: I'm in the US but I'm sure I'll need to shop online

Ryobi trim router - light's on nobody's home

I picked up a cordless trim router last year (not brushless) and I'm afraid it's given up the ghost already. I'm happy to take it apart to try and troubleshoot it, but I need some guidance for what to try

Considering it's not brushless, is it possible it simply needs a new brush? When I plug in a battery and turn it on the light comes on, but the battery doesn't turn on, so it seems like the issue is indeed the motor. This thing hasn't seen especially hard use so I'm disappointed (and I liked it a lot!) but I'll probably get a corded one if I need to replace it.

Does this seem like a sketchy design, or am I overthinking it?

I'm looking to build a shop stool with some scrap wood and I'm browsing plans online. When I saw this one at first it seemed ingenious, but now I'm not so sure. The actual stool would be more than fine but those ladder steps? IDK dawg. I'm mostly thinking about how the ladder steps are just being supported by 1x3's. It's not that I don't think they're strong enough, I'd be worried about the edge of the steps breaking and only havign that little surface area to rest on.

But maybe I am just too cautious. Woulld you trust this or would you swap the 1x3s for 2x2s for more surface area?

Advice for making a log into a stool?

I'm not sure if this is even woodworking so much as it is working with wood, but my question pertains to what steps I should take to turn a freshly sawn log into an outdoor stool (already cut to size, family had a tree on their property removed)

I know I probably want to coat it with something so it doesn't rot, but should I be letting it dry inside for a few months? Can it dry outside under a tarp? And is there anything I should do to disinfect it if I'm worried about bugs or whatever? (No signs of termites but I figured I'd ask).

Yoga USB C stopped working - looking for suggestions before I contact support

I've had this laptop for 6 months, and one of the 2 USB C ports decided to randomly stop working this weekend. It's not sending data or charging at all, but the other seems unaffected.

I read guides but none seemed to fix it. The computer is still seemingly recognizing it in Device Manger but it's not doing anything.

FWIW the model number is 83JQ0001US

What are your malicious compliance strategies for staying busy at work when your work is done

I've been having frustrating talks at work about doing specific tasks when I'm at work, and I've been on top of them. I do what I need to, I stay busy, but now I've had "the talk" about slacking off

the thing is

  1. I do not. The boss just saw me taking a break for literally 5 minutes after being busy all day

  2. I have the things I need to do completed, so now I have more busy work. Then, when I say I have done the busy work, I am told to find more busy work or to do it again. Typical nonsense.

This is dumb and I think I'm being penalized because I *don't* fuck off all shift. I think I'm too honest.. I don't sneak around using my phone, I don't spend a ton of time socializing or wasting time. I just work and get the stuff I need done and then I need 5 minutes to figure out my next move, but I guess 5 minutes is too much.

I'm not going to be at this job forever but I need it for now, so I need some ideas for how to make this work better for everyone and not piss anyone off.

I've been kind of frustrated trying to dry sweaters because I didn't have a good place to do it and my other drying rack was too small. When I had looked previously, this style cost like $50 which was too rich for my blood.

A few days ago I was browsing the clearance section at the local Walmart and saw the exact drying rack I'd been looking at on clearance for $30. Then when I checked out it was only 17. The top area will be great to lay sweaters on.

Idk if they are going to be on clearance in all stores but it's worth a shot checking if you need one.

If this isn't a good place to ask point me in the right direction

I am pretty interested in the history of textiles and clothing and would love to know a bit more about how knit items, particularly socks, were traditionally cared for. In the 1700-1800s folks were generally washing clothing with a washboard and soap, right? But that would instantly felt a pair of wool socks, I'm guessing

Honestly I've been wondering how they traditionally washed knit garments in general, but particularly something like socks that would see a lot more wear and stink

I finally got my Shammas Sandals after ordering them a month ago, and I hate to sayit, but I'm disappointed. I was so excited but, when I got them, the first thing I noticed was the sole was different than what was on the website. I even double checked to make sure I didn't order the wrong thing, but in product pictures a different sole is used

The tl;dr is the zig zag sole is Vibram Newflex which is grippy and better on natural terrain. The one I got is the Vibram MorFlex, which is for road running. It's just not what I wanted and I'm bummed I'll probably have to send them back after a month

I also noticed in the description they're listed as being grippy and that they use the same sole of the Maximus, and when I checked, they actually use a different sole for this specific color. Idk if that's their way of saying the sole is different or what but it's clearly not this in the product photos or any of the reviews.

Idk, not a great experience I guess. I emailed them to see if there was anything they could do but I will probably need to return them and I hope they'll at least cover that

This is super random, but one of the reasons I like to have a multi-tool nearby is that I will use them to trim my nails. At home I might use them in place of a nail clipper, but out and about it's more about trimming a random broken nail so I don't spend the rest of the day losing my mind. I carry a Victorinox 90% just for the scissors for this reason, but I generally find a multi-tool with a pliers more useful overall.

Unfortunately the scissors on the Gerber Dime are garbage (a shame, because I like it otherwise) and the scissors on the Leatherman Micra are too big. Also, IDK, I think mine just suck. It had been my dad's and they probably need to be sharpened. I'm not a huge fan of the Micra anyway, I don't find much use in the other stuff on there.

Anyway, it's not a deal-breaker, but I was wondering what good options exist. I think the reason the Victorinox scissors work so well is partially the geometry, but also that they are relatively thin and not bulky. I heard good things about Nextool scissors but I am worried they're going to be too big, especially the ones that fully fold out
