The sun was already getting quite low, so the light wasn't as harsh anymore and the contrast wasn't as strong as it would have been earlier in the day. Shooting in RAW still helped a lot, especially when recovering details from the darker areas and bringing back the rich color of the sun.

For the final edit, I also brought in some of my signature teal tones in the background to complement the warm golden light. Edited in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Eclipse from Latvia over the Baltic sea

The eclipse happened right as the Sun set, which was quite fascinating. I didn't have an astrophotography setup for my camera, so I used my phone instead

A tiny jumping spider on a daylily

This little jumping spider was barely noticeable against the daylily petal. I love how macro photography turns these tiny creatures into proper little characters once you get close enough.

Heather mining bee among the heathers

I only seem to notice these little bees around August and September, when the heathers are in bloom. And almost every time I spot one, it's busy working its way through the heather flowers.

It's become one of those seasonal encounters I now look forward to. There are so many tiny insects that seem to appear for just a short window each year.

I love how macro photography makes these seasonal patterns so much easier to notice.

48 photo focus stack of a Glory-of-the-snow with droplets

I usually prefer shooting flowers with the sun behind them, but this time I decided to embrace the direct sunlight. The droplets caught the light beautifully and ended up looking like tiny little jewels.

This is a 48-photo focus stack. I captured it with the camera balanced directly on the ground, which let me shoot the whole stack without a tripod.

The exact moment a ladybug took off

I was photographing this ladybug on a Siberian squill when it suddenly decided it had somewhere else to be. Luckily, I pressed the shutter at just the right moment.

Ever seen a fly blow a bubble?

I spotted this fly on a daylily repeatedly bringing a tiny droplet in and out of its mouthparts. One of those strange little behaviors you only notice when you stop and look closely.

Dreamy tulips through my macro lens

One of my favorite Spring flowers. I always love finding a few isolated blooms and photographing them against an isolated background.

August means mushroom season is almost here

Looking back at a few of my favorite tiny mushrooms while waiting for autumn to arrive. I can't wait to head back into the forests with my macro lens.

Butterflies through my macro lens [Sony a7 IV, FE 90mm & FE 100mm Macro GM]

A few of my favorite butterfly captures, taken with both the FE 90mm Macro G OSS and the FE 100mm Macro GM OSS. Both are fantastic lenses, and each has helped me create images I'm proud of.

A dragonfly resting on a daylily

I was surprised it stayed long enough for me to get a few photos. Dragonflies usually don't let me get this close.

Winter macros to help cool down this summer [Sony a7 IV, FE 100mm GM]

While everyone is photographing summer, I found myself looking back through some of my favorite winter images. Frost and ice create details that are easy to miss until you get a macro lens close enough.

All captured with the Sony a7 IV and FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS.

A few winter macros to help cool down this summer

With summer in full swing, I found myself looking back through some of my favorite winter macro photos. I almost forgot how magical frost, snowflakes, and frozen mornings can look up close.
