New (used) house with Powerview gen3 blinds, no gateway. I have questions

We bought a house that already has powerview blinds installed, gen3 as best I can tell by looking at the remote. Very nice blinds, I wouldn't have spent that much if they weren't already here!

What will it take add another set of blinds to another window and use the existing remote? Is this DIY or must I use a dealer?

Does the phone app require a gateway? When I try to use it it says it doesn't find anything.

Has anybody hacked together a Arduino way of controlling these?

Thanks for looking!

End user phishing training versus URL rewrites

tldr: URL rewriting breaks end user security training regarding phishing links in email, so which one do you rely on? Automated email URL scanning or end user training to recognize BS links?

the long version: We've been using end user SAT for a while now and gotten great results for most people. Our email security platform has long had an option to rewrite URLs in order to force clicked links to be run through their filters and supposedly block malicious ones. I've not enabled this function because it will undo the years of training we've drilled into users to not click links with weird URLs. If we turn on URL rewriting then all URLs look the same (e.g. securitywhatever.com/safety/87gndsvfa76b5dsf56ds5656dfs), eliminating that end user layer of defense. We have DNS filtering too, but more layers of security is always good.

So which do you prefer, and why?

What would be a long-lasting, basic coil spring base to add a latex topper to?

I'm on a string of mattresses that go saggy after 1-2 years and I want to try something new. I figure a basic coil spring mattress that will last, with a nice latex topper that I can replace whenever it dies for cheaper than a whole new mattress every 2-3 years.

So anyway, should I just go to a random mattress store and get a random cheap coil mattress, or is there something else I'm missing? I feel like the mattress won't matter that much if I'm going to put 2 inches of SoL on top of it, but I get that might be wishful thinking. Thanks.

I just spent 4 hours and $ troubleshooting a device because I had the power polarity backwards

I even knew damn well that musical gear occasionally uses center negative on their barrel jacks. On the plus side it didn't affect the device and it's all downhill from here!

I had to tell somebody because my wife just gives me a blank stare.

Found on Facebook Marketplace, sharing in case there's interest

Not mine but I thought I'd share. This is in my town so I'm willing to help with shipping if anybody needs it, not sure if the poster is willing to ship or not. Guy says he has around 200 phones.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1576584097448761

EDIT: The seller is not interested in shipping, so if you want some of these please message me sooner than later. I only plan on making one trip to collect whatever people want shipped. Also keep in mind shipping costs will be near $20 for the USA for 1-2 phones.

Does anybody make shorter USB C male plugs?

I need to fit this device into a small space and this right angle cable/PCB would be perfect except that the connector still sticks out further than I need. Surfing Digikey and Mouser I'm not finding any shorter male plugs (through hole, vertical obviously). Is this just something that's not made?

If I can't find a shorter plug I suppose I can jerry-rig the female part further deep into the device, but that feels like asking for a future failure there.

Thanks for looking.

Does anybody have a dead Pixel headlight they'd like to donate to science?

The DRL in my P2 headlight (pixel) is dying in the same way that they do for other folks. I'm not going to spend $3000+ just to fix DRLs, but I am handy with electronics and I wouldn't mind cracking a headlight assembly open to see how they're put together, and if anything cheaper could be done to repair them. And before you say it, yes I know they're "sealed" and "unrepairable", but that can mean a lot of things and I've fixed plenty of "unrepairable" electronics before. I'd attempt the task on mine, but it's my only car and I can't drive around with one headlight while I tinker with the thing.

Of course if I'm successful then I'll be sharing my findings for the benefit of the community.

Anyway, if you have a dead or dying pixel light that you'd like to donate/sell for scientific research please let me know. I may even be able to return it to you better than it was!

Possibly Portuguese artist, based in LA?

Original what looks like acrylic. Second photo is another work from the same artist. They're both -almost- really good, which makes me wonder if the artist is known, even if only locally in LA.

According to AI the translation reads as follows.

This painting was made especially for this moment and for the woman I love.

"The best thing in my life."

How does speed sensing work for BLDC motors without a separate sense wire?

I have a device with a BLDC motor. The controller is throwing an error code that indicates that it knows the fan isn't spinning, which is correct. When I look at the motor it only has the 3 wires for power, no extra sense wires. How does the controller detect the fan speed in a case like this? Thanks!

(not looking for troubleshooting info, just curious how this works)
