Trumpet vs cornet in wind ensemble scoring - I'm confused.

Band scores often have either trumpets, cornets, or both. I understand the role of the flugelhorn because I also like low, warm trumpets. But as for trumpets vs. cornets, I'm a little confused. I am in two amateur and one semipro band, and even only 1/6 semipro ensemble members bring both a trumpet and a cornet; everyone else in all bands brings trumpets. When wind ensemble composers score either or both, I'm not exactly sure what they meant. All the composers I see today using Musescore or Sibelius, only score for trumpets.

Why do juries so frequently dismiss DV/SA crimes even with strong evidence, and women often sit on these juries?

Mom was summoned for jury duty long before I was born and there were men and women in her jury pool for a domestic violence case. Apparently there was disagreement amongst the women where the defendant (a man) really beat his wife. Considering "female solidarity" is a thing I hear about I'm surprised he got dismissed. The evidence was also pretty strong that the husband did it. I didn't ask much, and I'm not sure if Mom thought he did it or not.

I'm not blaming the women on the jury, but it does seem weird that they wouldn't rush to the help of a woman/girl victim. Considering "every woman has a scary story about a man", it seems strange that dismissals are so common especially from other women.

This will be good for the taxpayers. Otherwise we would have to foot the bill of $10,000,000,000 😒

You guys were right, slow songs are awesome! Turns out 2/3 groups I'm in just need to play more passionately and resonantly.

I posted a couple of days ago that I didn't care for slow songs in wind ensemble, but now I love them! I like it when professionals play songs like Colonial Song or Benediction, it turns out my ensembles don't do it very well. I was in two groups that attempted those songs, and I say "attempted" because we could play the notes but not capture the soul of the pieces. But today, the ensemble I am in which is still a community band but a bit more professional, played two amazing slow songs; Salvation is Created and Shenandoah. Both sounded amazing and while I couldn't see the audience, I'm sure there were tears in their eyes. I look forward to playing more slow/rubato songs with my semipro band!

What's the difference between a man and a woman rizzing you up?

I'm transfem and I only know that anything but an affirmative Yes is a No. I got rizzed up by men and women at separate times and there didn't seem to be a difference in how they did it. Yet humans do have biological sex and social differences. What's a way to rizz someone up in a feminine manner? Also, I would only go for bi/pan/alternative women.

Thoughts on slow pieces - are they good with a concert band or would they be better with a full symphony (band + strings)?

Like Adoration by Florence Price or Colonial Song by Percy Grainger. Those are examples of slow band pieces. I've played them both in concert at various points and found them quite boring, but beautiful. I think slow concert band songs would be better off written for symphony, because on the radio slow music is generally strings music.

How to donate to GMO reef nonprofits?

I tried searching using different keywords for how to donate to Florida's coral reef laboratory where they are bioengineering super-corals to withstand global warming and SCTLD. Unfortunately there is no link to donate. I don't just want to donate to the U of Florida or a general marine biology program; I want to help fund this specific project. How do I do it?

Thoughts on the phrase "I'm no better than a man"?

I personally dislike it because lesbians objectifying women is no different than men objectifying women. But if it was acceptable to say that, would I be allowed to as a trans woman?

Who else struggles to think about the future because they didn't think they'd live this long?

My peers are graduating college this year and many have postgrad or career plans. They're moving into new apartments or houses, some are even having kids before 30, and have outlined how they plan to live. Meanwhile I keep moving the goalposts and didn't think I'd make it to my HS graduation let alone 22 right now. I am not actively suicidal now and plan to be here, but I don't know what I'll do in a year because I grew up thinking I had no future. COVID also probably influenced why I can't plan ahead, I just keep assuming subconsciously that something will damper my plans.

Do you think religious fundamentalists/paternalists are just HSPs who are not coping healthy?

I wonder if the people fearmongering about "the gays" or the people who think women should be soft tradwives who bake bread, or people who crusade against abortion - are really just HSPs who think the world is too big and scary, and aren't coping in a healthy manner?

What I'm saying is paternalists who think women should be tradwives aren't trying to live in Gilead and make them handmaids. I think they just want their soft dolls to be protected and not be exposed to the horrors of industrial factories or warfare. They aren't intentionally misogynistic; they are just highly sensitive and have trouble understanding that women can and do go through hard times, can persevere, and be a phoenix rising from the ashes.

How would interpersonal misogyny be stopped under socialism?

For economic issues like paid parental leave or the gender imbalance in STEM, socialism obviously addresses those. But I'm looking at the more interpersonal side of misogyny.

PTO for new parents won't stop women getting beaten and acid attacked for rejecting a man. Women might not work double shifts to feed their kids under socialism, but they will still get catcalled on the street. STEM scholarships don't stop girls from getting roofied at a party. Abolishing major religious institutions wouldn't lead to women walking alone at night. Codifying gay rights doesn't end lesbophobia. "Tell your sons no means no" only works on dads who see their kid's moms as people not accessories. I want a better world for women and girls. I just don't know how to solve it with socialism.

Any advice on how I can overcome my awkwardness around fellow sapphics?

I am an autistic transfem, and I mostly hang out in cishet spaces because wind ensemble, church choir, and hospital entertainer are where I meet my friends and acquaintances. I tried going to a queer club a couple times (queer, not cis gay male) and lesbian night but a bad night at a sapphic event made it hard for me to find sapphic friends.

I always have the urge to ask them out and I feel really hurt when rejected. I respect the statement that anything but an affirmative Yes is a No, but I still feel painful inside. My goal is to end up with a bi/pan cis woman and go poly. Unfortunately, I don't like to rizz people up let alone pick them up because I don't want to be a creep. Any advice for me to navigate a sapphic space and potentially find a date?

I am so incredibly scared of the recent outbreak and I am wondering if I should even compose for large ensembles. During COVID band programs were suspended and during the reopening, there was social distancing and more flex band pieces than "concert" pieces. I am composing a reel similar to Percy Grainger's Molly on the Shore and am wondering if I should bother continuing due to this outbreak being so scary.

Edit: I have autism and I am completely serious.

I see memes about how trumpet players have big egos, they act like king/queen of the band, etc. but I have never experienced that. I have only met very kind people and my first clarinet teacher was primarily a trumpeter, and she was spiritually my grandma. Another trumpeter gave me a ride to a gig when I had no car. Everyone who plays the trumpet in the bands I participate in (two wind ensembles and one military band) has always been so kind 😊

I am not talking about angry Christians who call teenage girls wh*res, or The Heritage Foundation, or the people using abortion as an excuse to subjugate women.

Outside of my local PP, you have a bunch of old people (mostly old ladies) who are on the sidewalk praying with their rosaries. They don't heckle people, and they don't actually go on the property (i.e. the parking lot or entrance), they just keep to themselves and are quiet. I don't think they are Gilead supporters or people who think women should be reduced to concubines.

You know how PETA activists like to wave around graphic signs and they got radicalized seeing violence against animals? I feel like pro-lifers are mostly the same, they saw graphic images of an abortion and got angry and hurt seeing it. They don't want to chain up women, they just don't like seeing babies get chopped up. I am not siding with them, I just try to see the good in everyone and understand that they are siding with "no killing 🥺" not "no healthcare for women".

Edit: I am pro choice and understand the procedure of an abortion. "Chopped up" is their lingo not mine.

So I'm from Madison, and we are essentially globalized thanks to being a large city and having UW-Madison. I'm in a community band that plays at assisted living centers, and there's usually at least one polka on our set list. Fewer of the residents are starting to recognize those old songs each passing month (we have two concerts a month). We still have a Sons of Norway, but they now meet in a church basement because their social club closed. So, I will ask my fellow Cheeseheads: Are European traditions still common compared to 100 years ago or so, or have they assimilated in Anglo-American culture?

I asked this question on r/AskFeminists and r/AskVegans and now I'm looking for a trans perspective on whether farming was a mistake or not. Jared Diamond explains that agriculture led to societal ills, such as capitalism, diseases, and patriarchy. With said patriarchy comes the demonization of queerness. I imagine during the Mesolithic, we had behavioral modernity so we would also have the concepts of sexuality and gender. Graves in history show male skeletons buried with female regalia and vice versa. Given that everyone had to help out the tribe to survive, I imagine trans people would've had a place. However, is it also possible that I am projecting my views on the past, meaning they weren't as accepted as previously thought?

I've been taking estradiol patches since September, but I want to truly be sterile and have a vasectomy so I don't get cis women pregnant, and to tell the truth that I am sterile. If I am taking estrogen which of course has effects on my anatomy, is it still safe or is a temporary detransition required?

I'm a trans woman who is on estrogen, but would do anything to either be a sexually attractive cis woman or just have no desire for sex at all.

It was four years ago when my class graduated, I went online but my peers went in person. Five of the alt stoner girls went up north to the cabin and were being affectionate in the Instagram photos they posted. I feel so left out to this day because I missed out on the kinky makeout and sex sessions these girls probably had. Same with when queer coded women go on camping trips - I imagine them having a sapphic, witchy orgy in the woods. In fact, reading anything about lesbian sex is a trigger because I end up jealous and horny and lonely.

The hard truth is that cis women don't tend to find trans women attractive. It seems they all date men, women, or AFAB enby people. I only like vaginas and women, eliminating all men and trans women from my pool. Every cis woman who is in a relationship with a trans woman seems to be where the latter was presenting male (in the closet), it's not like cis women rizz up trans women when she's already out. As for my ex I mentioned on the other post, she was pansexual. On one hand she was too crazy and we were incompatible, but on the other hand I should've faked it so I can continue getting pussy.
