Quit my “professional” job to bike tour. And along the bike tour I did the Colorado Trail and caught the bug for bike touring and thru hiking. Currently looking for a bs, no responsibilities job to save for the next adventure (hopefully sooner than later)

Hey yall. Did a bike tour followed by a Colorado trail thru hike. Not having the easiest job adjusting back to reality. I have a college degree. And most jobs hiring near me are laughable for their responsibility to wage ratio. Been trying to spend time with friends and family but they all got their lives to tend to. Constantly yearning for another adventure.

How do yall cope with the post trail blues?

Moving to esky fairly soon. Looking for some friends into backpacking/hiking. I’m also into bikepacking as well. I know the opportunities are limited in the esky area but I’m cool with exploring the Bay De Noc/Grand Island trail or just bushwhacking through state/federal land.

Hey ya’ll. I just got back to the UP after bikepacking to Moab from Ishpeming. And then thru hiking the Colorado Trail. I will be relocating to Esky after I do a quick bikepacking trip through the UP.

Any groups that do gravel riding/bikepacking here? Or people into hiking/backpacking?

Hey folks. I went on a 3,000 mile bike tour starting in May. Got to Moab, Utah in July and it was too hot to ride so started thruhiking the Colorado Trail on a whim. Well needless to say, I’m hooked. I’m a little over a week from finishing it and am already looking for the next adventure.

Are there any thru hikes in the US that I could do a mid to late September start or possibly October?

I have toyed around also with the idea of quickly getting back home after trail and then section hiking the whole Upper Peninsula of Michigan via the North Country Trail.

Hey folks. My buddy and I were biking across the USA we made it to Moab. We got a rental car to store our bikes in Denver and are going to be dropping off our rental at the Durango airport tomorrow afternoon or evening (we’re going to do the CT as northbounders). Any shuttles or trail angels in the Durango area to give a ride into town? Is Uber reliable?

We plan on staying a night in a motel close to trailhead before starting our hike.

I’m Kyle and I’m biking across the country. I rode from Ishpeming, Michigan to here on my bicycle, jumping on the newly launched Golden Gravel Trail route. Well, with the fires out west my riding partner I rode through Colorado and I decided it’s not worth to continue through it as the fires directly affect our route. So our new plan is to try to kill time and hike the Colorado Trail. I got a rental car reserved at the airport for tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone could give me a ride there to pick it up?

I tried to make an Uber account and it wouldn’t let me, kept showing errors. I looked up the airport shuttle and $96 seems a bit ridiculous.

Yoooo Colorado Springs folks. I posted the other day but posting again about a different topic. Beautiful place by the way. I’m currently biking across the country. I rode up here as I’m riding the golden gravel trail and re routing through here due to the Aspen Acres fire.

Anywho, when riding to my motel on the bike paths (I believe it was the pikes peak greenway (the gravel section) I noticed quite a bit of folks living amongst it. No problems besides riding over a couple needles in the bike path. I didn’t really map out my motel and it’s like 15 miles to where I need to get to route westbound. So I’m planning on an early morning start. But it’ll take me back through the encampments. And I’m not sure if it’s safe to bike through in the early early morning hours (like 2-4am). Any insight?

I didn’t feel too uncomfortable biking through in the daylight. But I know with the evidence of drug abuse, it could be a totally different experience at night.

Hey folks. I’m biking across the country. UP of Michigan to cape Girardeau Missouri where I jumped westbound on the Golden Gravel Trail. Due to the aspen acres fire I had to reroute to get to more west. So I’m coming up to Colorado Springs tomorrow and going to take a zero day.

Any chance anyone in here going up on Tuesday? (Not sure if allowed on pikes peak but bonus points if ya can shuttle my bike and I up for me to ride down lol) or anyone know if Uber will take you to the top?

I know there’s the train thing. Or the idea of biking up (which doesn’t sound fun on a “rest day”.

Context:

I’m biking across the USA. I found myself in very rural eastern Colorado running very low on water and temps were pushing one hundred degrees. I was 30 miles from any point of civilization basically and every cattle trough/river/creek was dry. I came across some buildings. And she was there. She said she is studying tarantulas and is from eastern Michigan university. Ironically I’m from Michigan too.

But anywho, are you in here? Or does anyone know her and can DM me so I can provide my contact info?

I want to do a more formal thank you, as well as an offer to a meal, beer, ice cream, coffee etc as you potentially could’ve saved my life. Or atleast save me from being search and rescued out of the place. I will be forever grateful for your help!!! Thank you for being the golden definition of a trail angel.

I’m Kyle from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I started riding my bicycle from my home May 16th down to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to hop on the newly launched mostly cross-country bicycle route called the Golden Gravel Trail. I’m currently stuck in Pittsburg waiting for parts to ship here.

What is there to do around here? Preferably free or cheap! Good eats?

Stopped at the brewery for a drink yesterday. And then met up with a TransAmerica route rider for some Mexican food and margaritas somewhere on the south end of town.

Is the mountain bike trail system worth a visit to kill time?

Also how is the camping situations at the mined pit areas near town? I see it’s free and I’ll be out of my hotel tomorrow so I’ll most likely need to find a spot to spend a night or two, maybe three.

I have the atlas rack pack 12l currently on my bike. I’m trying to determine if the extreme rain I rode in yesterday soaked through or if somehow condensation got built up inside?

My ortlieb gravel panniers have stayed dry, so I’m thinking maybe it soaks through? As my quilt was quite damp as well as my pad and pillow which are in the rack pack.

So i found a bike shop along the Golden Gravel Trail that’ll hook me up with installing shorter cranks.

Problem is. I’m no mechanic and don’t know what’s compatible. Can anyone throw recommendations my way?

The bike shop said “we don’t have any thing in stock but just order what you need here and we’ll install for you” was hoping they’d throw a recommendation lol

Looking to get 160mm cranks on my grappler. I know nothing about bike parts and sizing. Shop that I’ll be stopping at on my tour said to go ahead and order it to their shop.

Can anyone recommend 160mm cranks with budget in mind? And a 30t chain ring?
