The Inside magazine - Full 16-issue scans (PDF)

Hi everybody, wanted to share these scans here for anybody looking for them. 😄

The full, complete 16-issue set of Van Halen's "The Inside" magazine are available for free in PDF format on my Google Drive. These are long since out of print and hard copies are very costly.

I have had these on my hard drive since the early 2010s when I used to be part of the Van Halen bootleg community. I am sharing them with the Van Halen community for media preservation purposes. I hope somebody appreciates them and finds the info, pictures, and content useful or interesting.

Thank you!

AOL Running Man backpack I thrifted recently

I originally shared this on the Frutiger Aero subreddit and thought it might fit better here. This is my newly acquired AOL Running Man backpack. I got it at a thrift store and after doing some research, it's one of just 45 handmade bags from the streetwear brand LilOneSock. Super cool find, I still cannot believe it!

PS Vita Port Viability (Need Input)

Hello everyone!

Longtime lurker but first time poster here. I'm an active member of the PS Vita homebrew community (primarily r/vitahacks and r/vitapiracy) and wanted to get input from the Carnivores fandom. 🤔

Do you think a PS Vita port of the Carnivores series is feasible? The first 3 games have been released (in different forms) on PC, Android, iOS, PSP and PS3. Both the mobile and PC versions are free or considered abandonware. According to some research, different source code solutions are available to the Carnivores community, and I was directed here for more input.

For context, Android ports to the PS Vita have become very popular in the last few years thanks to some major improvements like VitaGL and special loaders and wrappers. While it's not as simple as taking the game files and dropping them on the console, it's tremendously sped up development of ports in the Vita community.

With these ports coming full circle I wanted to reach out to your community to seek input from modders, and coders, in addition to anybody from Action Forms or Tatem who may have developed the original games, reboots or re-releases. I also cross-posted to r/PortToVita who graciously suggested checking here.

The original trilogy runs on the AtmosFear engine while Cityscape runs on a fork of the Serious engine (Serious Sam)

Both Android games seem to run on 32-bit ARMv7 so they should be eligible for porting to the Vita in a bare technical sense. More graphically demanding Android games have been ported over without issue.

While the original games did get PSP Minis ports, and are playable on the PS Vita natively, they're considerably nerfed from the PC or even mobile versions. They lack content, have downgraded graphics, and you can't remap controls.

The first two Serious Sam games have been ported to the Vita as well so theoretically, Carnivores Cityscape could also be ported!

In my opinion, using the mobile versions of the games would be preferred due to the touch controls and dual stick layout of the Vita. Using these versions also means it could be possible to play the content/maps from the Tatem mobile versions.

Unfortunately, what I do think is out of scope for a Vita port is any of the community mods, map packs and content, but I could be wrong.

Another reason I'm leaning towards the Android versions is because open source projects (like OpenCarnivores) are either not being developed anymore or not publicly available.

I'm not a programmer or coder myself. But I know many of you are (or have dabbled in it.) I wanted to seek your input. If this seems doable given the technical limitations of the Vita, based on your feedback I fully intend to open a bounty for the ports on the Zealous Chuck Kofi page and his Discord this fall.

Thank you and happy hunting 🦖

Carnivores Series (1998-2002) 🦖

Hello everyone, I'm fully committed to starting a bounty for these games pending community input and viability.

These are childhood favorites of mine and I know some others would agree! All 4 games saw PC releases. The first 3 also received mobile ports (Android/iOS) as well as PSP and PS3 ports.

The first three games are focused on hunting and run on their own proprietary AtmosFear engine. The fourth game runs on the Serious engine (Serious Sam) and moving away from hunting to more of a linear single player FPS experience.

For context, the first two Serious Sam games have been ported to the Vita previously. As well, given the age/architecture (ARMv7) of the 32 bit versions of the first 3 games, it seems feasible at first glance!

All games are currently considered abandonware. I do not believe the source code has been leaked or is readily available. All titles are available for free on PC and mobile from the Play Store, App Store, MyAbandonWare, and other media preservation public repos. I did not see any of them on either Rinne's compatibility tracker or in Zealous Chuck's discord.

There is extensive mod support and a very active, small community for this series online that I'm sure would help contribute to development or sharing resources.

I wanted to get the community's thoughts on this! If it does seem these are viable I do plan to open a bounty over on Zealous Chuck's Kofi page. Thank you 🦖

Seeking a bin dump for this generic digital camera PCB

Hello, first time poster here. I got one of these generic kids toy digital cameras from a secondhand shop recently. It was $3 because it wasn't working. I fixed it by opening it up and soldering the battery wires to the PCB. It was working great!

I mistakenly tried flashing the firmware when there was nothing wrong with it. My logic was I should be able to easily find a newer firmware, but didn't realize how it goes with these generic ones and really messed up. At the time, the firmware version was wj-v1.8_20220803 and the PCB model is WJ9001V_6624D_V11.0

I got a firmware from Hommie HK who makes a similar camera, but now my screen is inverted, the default language was set to Japanese (was able to get it set to English) and now the camera doesn't take pictures. so I have effectively bricked the camera. Lesson learned 1000% and I will never blindly try updating firmware like this ever again. At least I'm only out $3 if it's truly unfixable.

Here is a link to the same style of camera if it helps at all. I have no identifying markings or model numbers to go off of unfortunately

Is there anyone who has an English language bin dump or can point me in the right direction towards finding one? I am an amateur electronics hobbyist, but I don't have an EEPROM programmer or anything like that. Thank you in advance.

Star Wars Episode 1 (PS1) Now Working on PS Vita!

Hello everyone! I am here to share that Star Wars Episode 1 for PS1 is fully playable through Adrenaline. This game is notorious for being one of the few PS1 titles that simply won't run natively on the Vita, no matter what... Until now!

I make no claims to be the first person to share this. I am not the author of the software used, and have no relations with its developer team. I just wanted to share this with the community, because I've seen people asking about this game for close to 10yrs online, and nobody seems to have gotten it running before now.

This was one of my childhood favorites growing up. I've been trying to get this game running on the Vita unsuccessfully for years using PSX2PSP and various ROMs. Thanks to POP-FE, now it's playable! I'm on Enso 3.60 with a Slim and using Adrenaline 8.0. The game runs flawlessly. I have a quick demo video posted in the comments.

Here is how you can get Star Wars TPM on your PS Vita:

-Download the ROM from your repo of choice. I'm using SLUS00884

-Download the latest version of the POP-FE tool (1.27 at time of writing) from their GitHub repo on your computer and unzip

-Unzip the ROM, open POP-FE PSP on your computer and run the program following their instructions

-Take the output folder from your computer and transfer it to your Vita's directory UX0:/pspemu/PSP/GAME via USB or FTP, ensuring that EBOOT.PBP is present in the folder

-Launch the game directly using Adrenaline or through your loader of choice, I'm using RetroFlow

Enjoy! May the Force be with you. Thank you to sahlberg and the POP-FE team for their awesome eboot tool which allowed this to be possible for the first time. If you made it this far, a direct link to the eboot I made is available here if you need it! 😉

I got to meet Clint today at SEGE in SC!

We talked briefly and he was a super nice guy. As a fan of his videos for about ten years, it was awesome to meet in person. 😎

Popped my Criterion 🍒 yesterday

(IRTR)

First time poster! This is my first Criterion film and one I've been eyeing forever. I didn't realize they do an annual sale, and over the last year of building up my collection I've always wanted Stalker. I read the book and enjoyed the games but have never watched this. Another Criterion release I'd love to add to my collection is Videodrome. Thank you for having me, I hope everyone has a great weekend!
