[Other] What if the next main title was a follow-up to the NES games, Zelda III?

I’ve had the idea a very long time for an actual Zelda III on a modern console with the original version of Link returning, and I believe it gains more appeal as time goes on. I wonder if that appeal is only mine though as I don’t ever see this brought up as a potential future direction so I’d love to hear thoughts on this and possible ideas for how this game might actually play.

I’ve always imagined Zelda III taking place decades after Zelda II with a much older, grey haired “Old Link” and set in a desolated Hyrule completely in ruin. The story would have a much bleaker tone than typical Zelda games and serve as the “finale” for the original Link, I would compare it story-wise to The Dark Knight Returns or Logan (though not quite as graphically violent or intense as those obviously)

Strangely, though years before BOTW was a thing, I also imagined Hyrule as having more advanced technology (though it was more recently developed rather than ancient relics). Now though I don’t think it needs it.

In terms of core gameplay, my thought process was the main mechanic or gimmick would be perspective shifts. Basically there would be three types of dungeons scattered through the overworld, each type corresponding to a unique camera perspective featured through the history of the series but rendered in the same visual style and HD graphical fidelity:

- traditional top-down

- side-scrolling returning from Zelda II

- Post-Ocarina style third person

Each perspective has its own unique quirks requiring different strategies for combat & puzzle solving (though all tied together with the core gameplay mechanics). In the Overworld, certain regions also shift perspective, though the majority would be third person.

I think this would be a cool way to honor the history of the series and tie things together, with this darker, high definition rendered Old Link literally going back to his roots through emulating the classic gameplay in different ways. But this is literally just my own idea and i dont know shit. If there’s a better take on what Zelda III should be I’m genuinely very curious to hear it.

Would you as a fan like a follow-up to the NES games? What do you imagine it being like? Is it actually a bad idea? I’d love to hear thoughts from actual Zelda fans

Batman’s dialogue in City is hilarious

Replaying City for the bajillionth time and just noticing how funny all of Batman’s lines are. For one, he is so unwaveringly self-assured about his ability to accomplish pretty much anything thrown at him. It would come off as cocky if it weren’t Batman, he’s just being honest. The man isn’t pressed by anything even remotely.

Also, he keeps telling people, “today isn’t the day to mess with me” or some variation on that. Which I find hilarious because it’s like, what day IS it alright to fuck with Batman? Sure things are stressful in City but for Batman it’s just a Tuesday.

[Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater/JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure] What if Naked Snake and the Cobra Unit had Stands?

Stop me if you’ve heard of this one: here we have an eclectic action series from Japan, tied to a single idiosyncratic creator who has a penchant for both bold, thematic over the top storytelling and constant direct references to Western media, even with main characters.

The series is known for its extremely over the top but distinct characters with truly bizarre abilities and its narrative about generational trauma that jumps decades in between individual installments, featuring a decades long feud between two cursed bloodlines and recurring variations of the protagonist. Each installment is usually set in a completely new environment somewhere around the world and has a rotating, extremely memorable cast of characters.

Ultimately, MGS and JoJo’s have just as many differences as do similarities, but there are times where playing the games where it really feels like the characters nearly bring out their Stands.

So what if they did?

Obviously I named Snake and the Cobra Unit up top (who definitely have that JoJo villain vibe to them) but The Boss, Volgin, and Ocelot would need Stands as well.

BONUS: These Stands could possibly be named for movies instead of music referencing Kojima’s love of film.

“Duel of the Fates” isn’t Maul’s theme. It’s Anakin’s.

In the prequel trilogy, John Williams’s masterpiece “Duel of the Fates” exclusively plays during key moments where Anakin Skywalker’s fate hangs in balance.

I - the final climactic duel entirely determines Anakin’s future. If Qui-Gon survived, he would have trained the boy as intended. If Maul won, Anakin likely would have been sent back to Tatooine or possibly even taken in by Darth Sidious much earlier. Instead, Obi-Wan is the sole survivor, setting the entire story of the Saga in motion.

II - the piece again plays as Anakin races to find his mother on Tatooine. This is the moment that ultimately determines and seals his destiny.

III - Duel of the Fates’ final reprise occurs as we crosscut between the two duels of Anakin vs Obi-Wan on Mustafar and Yoda vs Darth Sidious in the Senate chambers. Much like the duel in Episode I, the outcome of either of these battles would completely alter history and Anakin’s ultimate fate.

It’s disappointing that I can find no Marvel or DC game that have a classic FF or Persona style combat system which I’m slowly growing to love. There’s some strategy RPGs and other adjacent games, Midnight Sons is pretty cool but it’s not exactly what I’m wanting here.

Is there something I’m missing, or perhaps a non-Big Two superhero game that plays like a JRPG? It’s all I want
