Unpeeled cherry tomatoes

Cherry tomato apocalypse here. Heading out of town and just need to get these little baddies put up. I thought I found a safe recipe last year but I must have hallucinated it. Any rebel advice? Canning with an all American in pints.

Shopper asking for customer PIN to pay?

Instacart says my shopper has checked out. They are messaging asking for my PIN because “the payment won’t go through”

Update: assigned to new shopper. Groceries arrived as usual. But when I saw “headed my way” I realized the shopper was like 55 miles away! WTF instacart? At least make that shit obvious when you select a store! I upgraded the tip quite a bit but damn I felt so bad! 🤦‍♀️

Leafy Gall?

And if so, should I pull any received from that specific grower, shipped in the same box?

And should I let the grower know?

Replacement notes

Hi Shoppers! I identify at least 2 replacements or clearly mark refund on each item in my cart. Are the “instruction notes” helpful? Or are they annoying? Do they require you to make extra clicks or in some way require extra steps for you? Would you prefer to hash those kinds of details out in chat?

I’m talking about things that seem straight forward to me, like “feel free to replace with any flavor from
this brand, if brand out of stock, please refund.” Or “if replacements out of stock, any brand plain yogurt; no flavors please (including vanilla).” Not on every item, but for things that would be critical to a dish, allergies, or strong preferences.

Not a complicated process flow chart of “if this not that but also if the other thing then that would be ok” kind of obvious nonsense.

I already tip well, and I keep an eye on out of stock items, especially pricey ones, so that I can make sure to update the tip to a fixed amount that matches what I *think* a shopper sees when accepting a trip. But if there are any other non-obvious tips or ideas you have for customers to add some goodness to your day, or to at least not be a total pain ass, I’m open to hearing those too! We must rely on instacart right now and I want to be a good customer for my shoppers.

Who is this?

Washington DC. He was camping out at the edge of my hydrangea bed. The bed gets top dressing of rough compost in the spring; mulched with leafgro in the fall. No wood mulch (wood chips in pic are from that chunky compost). Dappled shade, under the canopy of an approx 100-120 year old, healthy white oak. Little bugger moved pretty quickly; sorry for the less than stellar photo. Second one I saw today in that bed.

I’m not necessarily worried about it, but would like to know who is in the garden.

Omar is not amused.

Our indoor buddy, Omar, is less than thrilled by the appearance of the little buddy, who is eating what Omar can only assume were delicious snacks we meant to give to him but accidentally misplaced outside.

(Gotta click on the picture, the two goofballs can’t be captured in a square image for preview).

Semi-Feral with Bleeding Crusties

Hi friends! F47, Washington DC, Cat 3-4Y(?), F, spayed, vet accessible and affordable, getting her TO the vet is ***extremely*** challenging. TLDR: Semi-feral, bleeding crusties on ears and nose.

This lovely lady has claimed our garden as her home. Bringing her inside is not an option at this time. She is semi feral and we have two indoor-only cats. We provide her with an outdoor house (heated in the winter), a water fountain, food, flea and tick (revolution plus, large cat, bc she’s an absolute unit; we have to use rose gauntlets to apply it), play time (we genuinely try to run her energy out a few times a day), and pets when she feels like it receiving them without biting. It’s a 50/50 shot. Speaking of shots, a neighbor was able to trap her to get her to a community clinic. That neighbor has moved, though.

Her ears and a few spots on her nose have developed some bleeding crusties as the weather has warmed up. Getting her to the vet will require trapping. Is there anything we can do for her from home/topically before going that route? Do traveling vets exist (aside from end of life care)? TIA.

Rootstock?

Coming up off of Earth Angel Parfuma. Didn’t think these ladies were grafted? Did I just miss the fine print?

Edited to add: this lady was definitely giving EA blooms all last year and during first flush this season. So I doubt it’s a straightforward mislabel?

Trauma Informed Dental Care Rec’s

Hi Neighbors - seeking recommendations for dentists who actually take a history of dental trauma seriously. In network with GEHA would be a boon, but at this point I’ll pay out of pocket for someone who recognizes that dentist-induced trauma is a real thing and practices compassionately.

Acupuncturist Rec?

Hello Bitches! I’m in search of an acupuncturist. Neck and shoulder pain pretty recalcitrant to PT and orthopedic diagnostics at this point, and I’m ready to explore alternative methods. I’m not comfortable with chiropractic work on my neck, but I’m open to exploring acupuncture, and of course massage if the practitioner has a solid bank of experience with chronic symptoms (as opposed to being awesome at helping folks relax for a one off, but maybe these are not mutually exclusive?). Alternative recommendations gratefully accepted.

Books on Roses

Hellllooooo Rosarians! I’m a newish rose lover (about 3 years) and I’d like to invest in a few honest to goodness, hardcover books on roses. Specifically I’m interested in:
-the history of rose cultivation,
-pruning techniques based on type of rose, health, and desired shape outcomes, and
-pathophysiology, pests, and general care unique to roses.

Any recommendations? Teasing Georgia tax attached.

No concerns here, just sharing the cuteness. We have a trio of littles that I believe have a den under our shed. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure I saw mom passed on the road after a car strike, so these little goofballs are on their own. They come out to drink from the water fountain we have for wildlife, and I give them strawberries (their favorite), veggies, and some balanced cat food every now and then. I know they will move on soon, but we are really enjoying seeing their little faces pop up in the evenings.

I wish I could capture how velvety this rose is in a photo! ❤️

I have three red charms that I planted last fall. I’m new to peonies an these leaves are cupped slightly upward an appear mottled to me. I know mottling isn’t a good sign for dahlias. Does that rule extend to peonies? If this is a virus, how concerned should I be about nearby plants? Observe? Or move to pots? Or straight to the trash?
