Expect some AUR package installs to fail: and no it's not an AUR issue...

Github is having an outage. Only noticed when I was at my doctor's trying to edit KubeJS script stuff from my phone. But raw downloads for packages and repos are apparently failing roughly half the time. If you're needing a package from the AUR that downloads or updates from there, expect the install to fail currently.

I think I've been way too busy making mods and it shows

The image of a Minecraft home with blocks from all 4 mods mentioned in it

The image probably isn't a lot but I feel like it'd take a lot to fit everything into one photo. What you're seeing is all 4 of the mods I made in use.

NBTcompat, which I've shown the cases for before, used for the custom gravel, cobble walls, dyed planks, crafting table, and custom chipped blocks.

Custom tiers for the Sophisticated Storage Chests in the back.

Custom Furnaces for the 3 furnaces on the right side: a kiln, a furnace tier, and a blast furnace tier for my modpack.

And my 1.21.1 port of CodeTayler's artisan worktables (called artisan ported on CF) in the bottom left of the home. Though this one you can add your own tool types and worktable types as well as mekanism style auto crafters for the mod.

Got spud's software working in Linux on Wayland.

For anyone who's tried these on Linux, you'll know that they only work while focused in Wayland. I had to do a DLL override into WINE as well as a evdev script for my mouse, keyboard, and touchscreen monitor to send it to spud over localhost TCP.

Also you can see a peek at my PNG tuber. I tried to make the dreads on the back of the head have physics, but I'm finding PNGtuber Remix's appendige feature very buggy to get it right. They often expand into a fan (I did draw them at an angle). Species design by fledgedragonfox on FA/pawpalz. I just drew it based on the ref since I'm terrible at creature design.

having a hard time getting spud tablet working properly under WINE

I can (probably) get the other two working since WINE already handle keyboards and controllers very well, but with spud tablet specifically, I'm having issues where I can't have another window over the input window (Wayland, KDE) it'll work with my mouse, even unfocused, if it's front and center, but not under anything.

I have not tried in X11 yet (I think KDE dropped it anyway) But I have tried Soda 11.x in bottles since that supports wayland with no change to it working.

Any Linux compatible PNGtuber software that can do head/other body part movement and morph the sprites?

OBS/other ipc integration is not high on my list but nice to have. My planned character doesn't have a visible mouth (most of the time) so I thought being able to do distortions in the character's mask area would work for this as well as doing some of that to the eyes for the expressions.

I've tried PNGtuber+ but it seems very limited for what I need.

Apparently, 2:1 epoxy + some drops of acrylic paint make a non-Newtonian.. or at least the epoxy softer...

Discovered this by accident since I didn't have alcohol dyes, though these have only been curing for about 6-8 hours when I took the vid so that's why I have a glove on (other hand is holding the camera). I think these do retain this property after 24 hours if I recall the last time I did this, but I added much more paint that time.

Note: I can't say for certain if it would be safe to handle after the 24 hour period, this is only my 2nd time doing this with my paints. And again, this one's not fully cured.

made create casings pregen for every registered wood X every registered metal, with only one block in the registry!

https://preview.redd.it/sy3bnvi2gdgh1.png?width=950&format=png&auto=webp&s=908059db73da9e20ee7b7b7aa330ff5bf4d483fb

This is actually a block entity storing the texture. I was inspired to try this after getting frustrated in how easily every compat can eat into memory with how much it fills the registry in large modpacks.

if I did this the traditional way, one registry entry per wood X metal, In ATM10, there's ~180-200 wood types X ~50-80 metals and alloys (can't find exact numbers). So you'd be looking at 9-16K entries of just casing blocks (every compact easily registers ~96K blocks in ATM10 of just wood stuff) This is only one block in the registry with the textures pregenned and stored on the block itself (neoforge supports NBT in recipe input, so these can work as ingredients as intended) Even the vanilla casings got a do over without replacing their item ID, so there wasn't any weirdness I had to do to fix crafting with them (unless I decided to use a custom casing in a recipe)

This all supports sodium and shaders (if colorwheel is installed) I was in fact developing the mod with them installed as well. This was also tested against the aether, create: More Machines, and mekanism to make sure their ID layouts worked as intended. If other mods don't, you can always use KubeJS to add stuff for the mod to use.

This was not easy BTW. Took a little over a day to get the textures to connect properly and not map weirdly (still not perfect on vanilla casings...), as well as issues with the placed texture not being sent to the client without an update. I also embedded Movable Block Entities so they could be pushed as expected (Was easier than making my own mixin for it...) This does allow for some very cursed machinations with the cogs however, as I found out fooling with the mod. The NBT string is also not very long so it shouldn't be a major issue when a lot of these are stored in an ME or RS system.

EDIT: uploaded as "NBTcompat" on CurseForge in case people are asking about a release.

EDIT 2: ok i was kinda expecting this to blow up, but not to this extent. I feel like I might hit triple digits in upvotes for the first time.

EDIT3: ok, wow, 230 upvotes, completly unexpected. CurseForge approved the project finally: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/nbtcompat Do be warned the 1.0.0 build have OOM issues with generating textures, it's fixed in 1.0.1

file system has gone read only quite a bit as of late

I've run into issues where, whenever I try to install something from flathub or pacman, I'd get this in my terminal

error: failed to init transaction (unable to lock database)
error: could not lock database: Read-only file system

a reboot usually fixes it, but I have no idea on how to actually prevent this from occurring as much as it has for me.

EDIT: I've checked SMART and the short tests seem clean, but my root drive (which is DRAMless) seems to have moments where it hangs for about 30 secs from something. I have a long test running currently on the root drive

I have the DRAMless Lexar as root, a Teamgroup as home, a MSI b450a pro max mobo with zen kernal 7.0.7. controller is a 400 Series Chipset SATA Controller

Krita, GIMP, or Affinity Canva for making your gang sheets

The reasons for doing it manually are somewhat myriad. A lot of auto builders I find don't support metric measures for physical image size, I also have my images in PPC rather than PPI a lot from Krita to make measureing in that software easier. Most of the sheet builders also don't ignore external whitespace on an image, meaning that while I could easily fit close to 20 20mm designs on a row of an A4 page. If it has a 10mm white space outside the design on the file, I'm only fitting maybe 12-15 on a row.

Photoshop isn't an option for me being a Linux user, on top of its predatory pricing model, but Affinity Canva does work through a custom built WINE with very few issues.

Where would I get the slides for the sliding type button presses? Not ones with a mold on already mind you.

I found a Alibaba seller that has a variety of molds for different button shapes, about 250 USD for each of them, not counting shipping. The issue is that they don't comes with a base (probably for their presses). Anyone know if there are companies that sell the slides for the sliding-type presses without the mold on them? I would alternatively take a 3d printable model of one.

ST 2000 loading difficulties.

I bought a refurbed ST 2000 for sublimation prints and while printing to it isn't an issue for me, even being a Linux user, Loading the thing is another story. Often at times, the backfeeder doesn't grab the sublimation sheet, but I'll grab regular paper very consistently.

ewwii pkgbuild didn't seem to install deps

I was going to mess with it a bit but I suddenly noticed that when I went to run ewwii -h that gtk4 and the layer shell stuff didn't install when I used yay to install it (said it wasn't found.) Is this new to yay after the malware incident or is this just a bug I found on ewwii or yay's end (or maybe a bug with my setup...)

Power off issues with OPI 4 pro

I've been testing some Arduino and SBC interoperability over GPIO and I'm constantly running into issues with the 4 pro shutting itself off mid boot. I've tried over gpio and the USB port after cannibalizing a cable, but the common thing I have between the board and my benchtop psu is gpio wires and a relay, no breadboard. This setup has hardly pulled 1A yet and the PSU is set to 5V currently. No idea what else to try.

Noticeable response issues with Dell PC after windows 11 update.

From what my grandfather has been claiming, and what I've seen since he only uses the web browser on it. Multiple sites, Facebook being the only one I confirmed, has had issues from infinite scrolling failing to continue, to notifications in Facebook not changes pages at all on clicking, to pages only half loading before it stops trying to.

My grandma has an hp laptop she uses and it has updated without much issue. Can't remember where we got the HP from, but the Dell PC was from fingerhut.

Could use some kubejs help. A script to auto gen furnace and custom machinery recipes was wroking at first till some mods were added.

I think adding mods like farmers delight is when it started to break. they show in JEI for the fuel oven (the machine in question) but the machine is constantly cooking air -> air without fuel and isn't doing any other recipe for some reason. Meanwhile the brick furnace (upgraded oven), furnace, blast, furnace (both versions), and clayworks kiln all are working as intended it seems (though I haven't tried the electric versions.)

this is the script in question: https://github.com/Nathan22211/ATM-Kizao/blob/main/kubejs/server_scripts/z_custom_machinery_furnaces.js I honestly don't know what's causing it to break. I've practically ran in circles 3-4 times going from this, to it not registering recipes at all, to registering maybe one recipe and then back to this.

One of my mods in my WIP modpack seems to be preventing vanilla villages from generating

I've noticed this issue for a while, roughly when I added insane survival overhaul with some other mods to the pack. I ended up adding the pillar villages mod to compensate for it.

No idea what causes it or if I can turn back on the generation in a mods config or if I'll need to re-add villages via a kubejs datapack.

NOTE: the vanilla villages do show in /locate but the command can't ever find one.

need help getting MS edge embedded or electron app to run in WINE

I'm trying to get Eufymake's Eufystudio for their UV printer to run in WINE, but it uses MS edge embedded and so far it has only opened up this website in my system's browser https://secure.mycompany.com/

I've tried some DLL override and env vars suggested from Gemini with the only change being a module not found error for winebrowser.exe being disabled. Changing webviewbrowsererror or msedgewebview2 to n; b; or n,b doesn't change anything.

If I can't get this to work I've been thinking about getting Longer's up and coming ePrint instead or testing Morpho's control suite at MRRF. I don't know about Morptho's tech stack but Longer told me over Facebook that the print software uses electron, so I would need some help there as well.

CUPS seems to be deprecating 3rd party drivers, which my HP kinda needs.

I have a HP office Jet 5255 I have that only works properly if I use hpcups rather than regular cups (it shows but never connects) but I'm recently getting depracation warnings over it in the CUPS GUI. Is this specific to my model or are all HP printers affected? My whole household plans to switch to Linux by the end of the year and a working printer is needed for university (which both of ours are HP models)

Just starting out and the mess of ecotanks tends to annoy another in my home. So I have a few questions pertaining to this.

Would inkjet transfer paper or LaserJet toner transfer paper give better results given the right printer for it?

I already have inkjet transfer paper but it says it works best on fabrics with >70% cotton. Would polyester still be viable here.

Are 6-color printers worth it? I used to have an Epson Ecotank 8550 but not the heat press at the time. But never noticed a difference in quality in the print, (I'm not colorblind I assure you.)

false triggers due to moving shim for X max 4 toolhead sensor

for some reason I'm getting false triggers with the runout sensor in the toolhead. I've narrowed it down to the fact that the narrow shim of metal doesn't bounce back away from the optical sensor when filament is removed unless there's a high acceleration backwards.

I know this much from just moving the toolhead about on the gantry.
fact accel forwards will cause a false detection

slow acceleration forwards and it doesn't seem to do much

slow accel backwards tend to trip it

fact accel backwards will often untrip it.

side to side doesn't seem to do anything either

This seems to be an issue mostly when loading and unloading, I haven't tried filament changes to know if that's affected or how. Has anyone else with an X max 4 or other QIDI printer that uses that optical setup had this, and do you have a fix?
