old pen day - white feather 703

sometimes just because it looks smart and has a unique looking nib, doesnt mean its a good writer.

this pen is called white feather/bai ling 703, made in early 90s. the look is defo unique, but the build quality is kinda meh, made of stamped aluminium, weighs next to nothing, 11.6g. and the pen itself is way to thin for someone like me with nails to hold it properly.

and the nib is not too good either. writing feels ok, it has those pencil like scratchy which is very good, except its a gusher, almost M tip wide. the nib is too soft, lack of springiness, if you press it a bit harder, it splits, permanently.

oh yeah, it has a bladder too, fixed one. old pen stuff.

that being said, could be a candidate for glitter ink, who knows, i might into it later but not now.

peanut butter and sweet corn soop noods with seared needle mushrooms

who'd thunk pb goes well with corn? boil corn on cobs with some salt in water, make the soup with said water when done cooking the corns. its so sweet its a bit too intense for my taste

doubanjiang soop nood

dbj has a alcohol-like smell so some ppl may find it a bit weird. i dont know how to neutralise it.

  1. cook broth and noods separately. add raw noods in boiling salt water, if you have veggies, cook them with noods,
  2. boil a small amount of water, add a spoonful of dbj, mix well, keep boiling. add water to desired amount when thoroughly mixed. add sides if you like, i added tofu, wakame
  3. dbj is very salty, taste the broth, add oyster sauce and/or soy sauce accordingly. plate.

you should deep fry mushrooms

got some discount oysters, fresh out of the box, trim off the thick stems and substrate, coated with potato starch, fry to the doneness of my liking and spray some salt (maybe pap, pepper etc). its a simple and fast side dish and or snack to get your fungal quota.

you could also make a batter of egg and other starch, coated with breadcrumb to make it more like tempura but thats not my thing, id like to keep it simple.

just please dont deep fry wood ear.

stir fried udon w/ pickled veggie & mysterious mushroom

udon is a tough nut to crack, it's a bit sour and i dont know how to neutralise it, cooking it briefly wont do it.

[UI] my weird and jank setup, advices needed :3

some of my oddball preferences:

  • minimise player uf to just a thin line right above the minimap
    • it just serve for a place to right click, would like to hide it if i can summon that menu by other means
  • minimap at bottom centre, quite small compared to other ppl's liking
  • extremely frugal yet big uf, just bars and text
  • group above of target uf, and target and tot on either sides of minimap
  • vertical buffs display, but also covered by bigwigs warning bars (unfortunately)
  • i put some important icons in the centre, forming the hud
    • i hate rotation helper addons including cdm (i hate wa!), find it distracting and confusing.
    • the only thing moves is nameplates
  • i disabled my main action bar
    • i dont need to look at them
    • so theres only 4 bars visible on the screen
    • not including "hud"
  • i prefer flat bar texture
  • the font is from the witcher 3, while decrative text is faculty glyphic (dialogue ui)
  • i still use icehud

some of my current pain points

  • skyriding doesnt work well with bartender, as it replaces main bar aka bar1. sometimes it refuses to work, enabling bar 1 doesnt work it seems
  • awkward to play with druid of any spec, due to my habit of disabling bar 1, i would like to have a static bar 1 that stay the same in any form or no form at all
  • i use sensei class resources bar but i really hope i can make some class resources as a bar in icehud, like mana bar, like maelstrom weapon and demon core.
  • i dont like that icehud texture for quite a while but i still cant make something looks semi decent
  • aurora keep throwing lua errors during combat
  • i really want to use shadow unitframes, currently i use MidnightSimpleUnitFrames but it has something wrong with target frame bar texture, i cant change it
  • buff addons were my thing, i used to use bufflehead. in the past i use elkbuffbars but the sheer number of buffs during combat makes stock buff icons more usable, and its ability to fold unimportant icons is now the USP
  • i like minimalistic look but i hate installing addon packs like elvui
  • i still use stock objectives tracker for some reason, i find alternatives just not that good

i need fresh ideas, thanks :3

my hunter is boosted to 80 and cant Q for timewalking

is it a intended limitation? currently lv 83, ilv 145. i have toons that are much lower ilv in lv 80 and still able to queue for timewalking.

i put two leeks in the noods hope you like it

my copycat of halal places' all veg fried noods, usually involves up to a leek for big serving but i doubled it. i like the punch from the leek, stronger than onion and 58% easier to cook. per usuall there are 5 birds eye chilles in it.

ni&pd: ostrich "jaipur" opaque ink and jinhao 82 mini

when i saw that new "cities series" of ostrich im immediately intrigued. ive never seen colour inks that are opaque, and the the warm and light pink of "jaipur" is just so my thing. while its more on the pink side when dried, not the warm orange sandstone of what makes jaipur famous, im not complaining.

the opaque aspect makes me a just bit worried. as it indicates its a suspension of pigment (like carbon ink) in the water phase rather than dye dissolved in solution. with tiny particles it could clog pens but since im not using expensive pens so im ok with that. the ink itself is a bit thin, it flows out naturally so sometimes strokes can get thicker.

speaking of pens. the 82 mini comes in solid lavender. its so much smaller than expected. i was thinking it should fit smaller hands better but im not so on this boat any more. i think its probably too small, and writing when posted, which for most people its a must, the cap would crack sideways, even its a snug fit, so if you are like me who hold pens with a force, its not as stable as a regular 82. the nib is good, i think ive won the lottery, while a bit thicker than normal ef, its smooth, reliable, exceeds my expection of jinhao nibs. the 82 is my fav pen to write on, but i have to give the mini a 7, simply bc its too short for regular tabletop writing, but it would be a 10/10 for carry-around if you're that sort of person.

i put potato starch slurry to the green, red and weird, hope you like it.

inspired by another redditor, i realise shrooms are good for ppl like me who doesnt eat meat. but i decided to put half a carrot in it to make it prettier(?) and boost the VA.

aliexpress grey ink

it quite rare to see a grey ink out in the wild so i cant help but got it with shipping mark ups.

right after putting my first word i was quite disappointed to see it has a strong magenta hue when wet but turns out i was being paranoid, when it dried the colour changes, like iron gall ink, the hue disappears and left a tone not so different from, say pencil marks. i think pale inks like these are quite suitable for thicker nibs with a more generous output

stems and tofu

the supervillain inside of me wanna cook something for others but with my own tolerance of hot. aka 5 bird's eyes is just the starting point.

i wish i have the freshest water spinach stems so i can dump them into the wok, straight from the ground.
