Recommended USB C hub to add USB C ports for mini M4?

I need more USB C ports. Most of the Mac mini M4 hubs I’ve seen have a slew of ports I do not need at all. I only need additional USB C ports. Any recommended hubs for this purpose? Thanks.

Edit to add: it doesn’t need to be the kind that sits under the mini. I’m looking for any USB C hub that will work well to give me more USB C ports.

AmneziaWG 2.0 vs WireGuard?

For those using the beta and AWG 2.0, is the performance on par with the vanilla WG? I’m wondering if there is any reason to not simply switch to using AWG in all cases?

Aqara FP300 Thread users, the M100 will work to upgrade the firmware

As of the time of this post, Aqara is not pushing OTA firmware updates for the FP300. Which is annoying. I had high hopes this would work, and it did. I purchased the Aqara M100 Thread Border Router hub. During setup I made sure to have it not connect to my Apple Home. Once it was set up, I got the pairing code from Apple Home for one of my FP300’s, and added it to the Aqara app. Once in the Aqara app I was able to successfully upgrade the firmware to the current latest of 1.1.3.8. Bonus, the sensitivity setting and absence confirmation period can be adjusted in the Aqara app.

Might seem silly to spend $25 USD to be able to keep the firmware updated, but I’ve got 5 of the FP300’s and I find it worth the cost.

Edit to add: Perhaps I should have mentioned that I don’t currently have an Aqara hub that is TBR compatible. None of this applies to those already running their FP300’s through an Aqara TBR as you can already do all this. This post is for people like me who run their Thread devices only through Apple.

NG connection, does it need to be a quick disconnect connector on the gas side?

I’ve seen a bunch of videos and read many posts about people using a quick disconnect at the gas line side of the hose. Is that considered a best practice? I’ve gotten in person quotes from two plumbers to connect the gas hose to my natural gas line, and both said the hose should remain always attached and not use a quick disconnect at the gas line end. (They both said they’d install a shutoff valve of course and the generator side of the hose obviously has a quick disconnect connector).

Aqara FP300, Thread, Apple Home and firmware updates, question …

I currently run a couple of FP300’s directly in Apple Home. Unfortunately it appears that OTA firmware updates are not supported in Apple Home for it. So my question is this: if I get the cheapest Aqara hub that supports Thread (M100?), and also pair the FP300 in Aqara app using Matter over Thread, can I then run firmware updates for it via the Aqara app without impacting the FP300 in Apple Home? The current ‘solution’ of having to switch to zigbee and back to Thread is not an option as it would require removing from Apple Home and losing all automations for it.

How’s the Aqara G400 doing with heat?

This was asked by someone else a month ago, but now that we are a little further along into the warm months, I wanted to get more feedback from people? Any heat related HomeKit ‘cooling down’ messages?

Note: Specifically asking about the G400, not G4 or G410 :)

Do box firmware update notifications appear as Firewalla Alarms?

I don’t think that they do, so maybe this is a feature request. For me the Alarms view is a useful place to track things that have happened. And while box updates aren’t frequent, it might still be nice to be able to go to the Alarms view to see that history.

it’s a tiny thing, but thank you Firewalla for changing “My Portal” to “MSP” in the app!

Orange users - how long does it take for your box to connect to public WiFi (WAN/WISP)?

To clarify, I am not referring to connection issues. My Orange connects, it just seems to take a while before the Orange is ready. I’ll edit the network, choose the hotel WiFi, and then it takes almost a solid 5 minutes before the box is finally ready. Curious if this is the same for others?

Tri fuel inverter and natural gas quick connect, any reason not to go this route?

Where I live we don’t get a lot of power outages, but when we do, we’re out for like 5 days. It’s not worth going whole home generator due to cost. However I am considering a portable tri-fuel inverter and installing a quick connect on my natural gas line, as I’ve read others have done in this sub.

My question is if there is any reason not to go with this approach? Any downsides I am overlooking?

For those that have been running their HB3 with antennas disconnected, any issues?

My experience with transmitters is that transmitting without the proper antenna can cause damage to them. That said, for those who have been running their HB3 with the antennas disconnected, have you had any issues? Everything running normally? The multi bridge cameras using your home WiFi work well?

For those commenting, I’d be grateful if you can indicate how long you’ve been running the HB3 with the antennas disconnected.

WiFi SD - does the Firewalla periodically check for known WiFi, or must it be manually connected?

I’ve been playing around more with my Gold Plus and WiFi SD, using my phones hotspot. All works fine. My question is this: if I disable the hotspot, and then some time later enable the hotspot, will the Firewalla auto reconnect to it? I waited maybe 10 minutes after re-enabling hotspot, but the Firewalla didn’t connect to it. When I went to the existing network I set up for this, hit edit, found my hotspot, connected, all worked again, but is that required every time?

Update: To close the loop on this, I tried another phone and the Firewalla connected to it quickly. Must be something with my primary phone. Appreciate all the comments. CC /u/firewalla

Why do alerts take you to a limited version of the video?

Just curious. Why do alerts take you to a video that has no controls or scrubber? Why not have alerts take you to the normal video view like you get when clicking a video from the Events view? This has always bothered me, lol. Any ideas why eufy designed it this way?

Would an option to allow the app to set the box time zone be useful?

This discussion is most applicable to the Orange and Purple boxes since they are most likely to be taken when traveling. I couldn’t figure out why my speed tests were running at the ‘wrong’ time until I realized that the box was still using my home time zone and not my vacation location time zone. I’m wondering if an option to allow the app to automatically set the box time zone would be useful for situations like these?

DM 2000 + EB — can they be left attached when not in use?

I have a DM 2000 and extra battery that I use only during power outages. I’m wondering if there is any reason the cable connecting them would need to be removed when not in use? Or can I just leave them attached?

Question about multiple sub panels and MTS’s, and a single generator …

I’ve attempted to research this question but I’ve ended up unclear on the answer, so hoping this sub can assist.

I’ve got two sub panels, in different parts of my home. Each sub panel has a manual transfer switch. Am I able to plug both manual transfer switches into the same generator? This concern is not load, the draw would be easily handled by the generator capacity. The concern comes from something I had read indicating it could be bad to do this. But hoping to get clarity from this sub.

Thank you!

Recordings ending early - Power manager custom recording settings being ignored?

HB3 + S3 Pro, on battery + solar

My cameras are set to custom power manager recording settings, and the ‘end clip early’ setting, set to off, is being ignored. Recordings will reach the 60 second duration I’ve set only when there is continuous activity, but if activity ends before the 60 seconds, my recordings are stopping early. With that setting off they should always be recording for the full 60 seconds.

Anyone else seeing this?

MSP - why does it now say “My Portal” next to the box name in the app?

With all this recent talk about MSP, I decided to give it a trial with the Professional plan. Curious why it now says “My Portal” in red next to the box name in the app? If it’s simply an indication that I am using the paid MSP product, why not have it say “MSP” or something like that. I’m not understanding the “My Portal” designation.

Has the Snapshot feature stopped working for anyone else?

This is a feature on my S3 Pro that allows taking a still every XX minutes. I assume other battery models have this feature as well.

I don’t know if it began with the latest app update (iOS) or the resent HB3 firmware update, but ever since, this feature isn’t working anymore. I’ll scrub the timeline as usual but now the stills aren’t showing.
