I am so defeated.

I recently adopted the first puppy I’ve had on my own. He’s a 5.5 month old GSD mix. He has been around my older GSD and my mom’s GSD mix since 10 weeks when we adopted him. He was in puppy class and private training the very next week with other dogs. He has started growling and barking at other dogs since he was 3 months old. I took him to daycare for the first time today, and he growled as soon as he got in the building. The trainer says he’s insecure and fearful.

I feel so fucking sad and defeated. I have done everything “right”, and now I feel like my puppy may hate other dogs. I don’t have a ton of time to take him to dog parks to condition/expose him and I distrust other dog owners to keep them on a leash. I have been crying today because I’m just so over this. I got a puppy so I could make sure this exact thing didn’t happen, and it feels like a cruel joke that someone who was set on training the perfect dog got a puppy with “issues”. I don’t know what else to do.

5 month old puppy who is scared of new dogs and kids.

Hi! This little boy here is Ace. He is a GSD/Staffy mix. We adopted Ace when he was 10 weeks old (he was born in the shelter), and immediately started socializing him. He has always taken time to warm up to dogs. We did a 6 week puppy class and private sessions, and he would growl and back away from the dogs for the first couple of visits. He has always loved all people, however. Recently, as in the past two days, he has also started growling and backing away from kids aged 5-10. Some of which he knows and has met before without issue. Tonight, he did this to a 10 yo girl he has loved previously, but then slowly approached and did a wiggle butt as if he just suddenly realized it was her. Has anyone experienced this? I am honestly so scared this dog is going to have behavioral issues, and I truly don’t want that.

How common is it for puppies under a year to be scared of other dogs, and do they typically grow out of it as they get older?

My almost 5 month old GSD/staffy puppy is pretty scared of other dogs. Yesterday, a new dog sniffed his butt and he screamed like we’d never heard. He lives with another shepherd, and plays with my mom’s shep/husky mix often. But, he has always been weary of new dogs and will hide behind me and bark if they try to get closer to him. Yes, we are in puppy classes. It took 3 times for him to be quiet and confident around the dogs there. He is also in private training, and it took 30 mins of treating and retreating for him to play with the trainer’s dog. That trainer says he lacks confidence.

So, I guess my questions are as the caption describes. Will this be a lifelong issue/fear for him? Has anyone else seen this get better as they get older?

Need advice- Puppy saw a baby for the first time today.

My 4 ish month old GSD puppy met a baby for the first time ever. It was also our first time taking him to walk on the Mississippi river.

My puppy barked, growled, and had hackles up as he walked past, and then started wagging his tail and tried to approach. I wouldn’t let him due to his initial reaction. Is this normal for a first meeting?

What happened to this sub?

Edit: it makes sense that we are trying to get progressives elected and mobilizing there has been the primary focus.

I haven’t seen any big protests this summer, and I never see posts from this sub anymore. What happened? Algorithmic suppression?

My 12 week old puppy has been submissive with bigger dogs, but wasn’t nice to a 12 week old puppy at our first class.

Two weeks ago I adopted a male GSD/staffy mix. His brother was not nice to the other puppies. After class, they had playtime and he would start play out with the bow, but then would get really stiff and put his head over the other dog’s shoulder. He would also bark and sounded pretty mean. When I tried to redirect him with a treat, he redirected his frustration towards my hand. Has anyone else experienced this with their dog? Is it fear or anxiety from being in a new environment with new dogs? I have two bigger adult shepherds and he is always belly up submissive for them.

I adopted a puppy almost two weeks ago. My best friend hasn’t looked at me the same since.

This is Molly, my best friend. As of two weeks ago, we have a new GSD mix puppy. Since we got him, she seems to be avoiding me, won’t come when I call her, and ignores me. Honestly? My feelings are hurt. She was my shadow for years. Has anyone experienced this? Will it get better? I’m worried I ruined our relationship.

Please help. Puppy Play Behavior-Has anyone experienced this?

Male puppy, GSD Mix, almost 3 months, have had him a week and a half. Today was our first puppy obedience class. We discovered that our puppy plays very rough, and seems to be almost borderline aggressive. Hackles up, wants to pin them, mouth open and chomping at other puppies. Will disengage if they walk away. When we adopted him, he had one littermate that absolutely was too aggressive with the other pups. The trainer thinks he learned awful play behavior from the other littermate, and that we need to “unpack” it by getting an older dog to correct him.

I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? Were you able to successfully rehabilitate it? I am so sad, as I really want my dog to be the best dog and now I feel nervous about how he’s going to be as a large adult dog.

I adopted a new puppy, and would like confirmation this is a good correction by my shepherd and response from the puppy.

My mother sent me this video. I would normally step in if this were me, and tell the puppy to back off since my dog was saying she isn’t comfortable. What are your guys’s thoughts? Good correction from my adult shep?

New 11 week old puppy. GSD mix. Puppy pyoderma or gnat bites?

Male, neutered, GSD MIX, 11 wks, just adopted him 6/3.

Yesterday I noticed he was itching a lot and biting at belly/hind end. I did not see fleas and he was treated this month. He got a bath Saturday with itch-soother shampoo (ironic). Has been swarmed with gnats every time we go outside as well. Doesn’t look like I can add pictures, but he has little scaly patches and small red rash under armpits and near genitals/belly.

I am looking to start walking more to lose weight.

Hi all! I’m new to this group. I am looking to start walking more to lose some weight. Walking is ideal as one of my knees is messed up. I am 5’8 210 lbs, and my goal would be 10k steps/day and 180 lbs.

My questions are

  1. How long does it take you to walk 10k steps?
  2. How long did it take you to see results?
  3. Does anyone here use a weighted vest for their walks? Did you find it more beneficial?
