What is with crazy auction house sales?!

I have never understood the glaring jumps in sales with an auction house vs eBay. For context my father gave me this card when I was younger and I’d never sell it, but out of curiosity was checking what it goes for now. It’s pretty consistently a 120-150 dollar card. Yet someone auctioned it off through pristine and it goes for $878?!?!? Who are these people buying these cards? Someone please help me understand.
