I can't stop crying. I have to give up Clifford.

My landlords changed their mind. They initially said it was fine to have Clifford and his big enclosure in my house, but they've changed their mind and will no longer allow him to live here. I'm absolutely gutted and feel like such sh*t. I feel like I've failed him. I'm honestly having a really hard time coping with this. I'm glad I could be a safe landing place to get him out of the shelter that wasn't set up for a big lizard. And I gave him love and care as he deserved and his stuck shed is nearly off and he's finally well hydrated. I just am so heartbroken.

If any of you tegu lovers are in colorado and might be interested in giving him a home, please let me know. I've also reached out to a couple rescues. He's a really good guy.

Edit: I can't register him as an ESA because my dog already is one. And initially they gave me verbal consent but then changed their mind in writing citing the lease. I think the enclosure and risk of water damage to the floor is their main gripe. They said they don't allow grow tents for plants either

Best insulating materials?

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this but I'm seeking advice on building materials.

I'm attempting to keep an 8x4x6' lizard enclosure in my garage in Colorado. It needs to hold heat (ranging from 70-100°F) all year round, including during winter where we sometimes get sub zero days, without spending exorbitant amounts on electricity. The enclosure is basically an indoor greenhouse, so it's not insulated at all.

Does anyone have ideas? My first thought was that pink thick Styrofoam but I'd worry about it melting if it was above the heat lamps. Also if there is a more appropriate sub for me to post this please lmk! Thanks!

Hello darkness my old friend

Clifford hates his travel tub lol. But his first vet appointment was great! He showed off by pooping, sticking out his hemipenes and some sperm plugs as soon as the vet came in 🤦🏻‍♀️ He's thankfully really healthy except for his stuck shed. The vet estimated he's about 2.5-3 years old

Clifford climbed on me! Then got tired...

Sorry for all the posts lately. I'm just so excited about my journey with Clifford. A couple days ago I sat by his hide and he immediately came out to examine me, then climbed on my lap *of his own volition* then plopped down and rested for about 10 minutes before going on his merry way. It's hard work being a silly boy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Interesting experience with Clifford. What does it mean?

I just had a cool experience. Right now Clifford is living in my bathroom until his enclosure arrives tomorrow (not ideal but better than the shelter he was in, and it's very temporary). Every time I go in the bathroom he hisses at me. Understandable cause I'm a big scary thing making weird noises and moving around. I've been leaving him alone as much as possible and not touching him or anything when I go in there. But I was curious what he would do if I just sat there. So he was in his hide hissing at me, and I just sat next to it. Immediately he came out to check me out. He's so curious, I can see his intelligence. I set my hand by the front of the hide and he immediately comes up and starts smelling it with his tongue which made me flinch but I stayed there. Then he pushed his nose into my hand and kinda hissed but also inhaled deeply? Then he just kinda sat there with his nose on my hand for 10 minutes. I have no idea what he was doing but im encouraged that he immediately came to check me out even though he was scared and he didn't try to bite or anything. He's a cool and mysterious guy 😎

(Bonus adorable bathtime pic. Poor guy has 2 layers of stuck shed 😩)

First ever ToT! I adopted this handsome guy today! Any name ideas?

I'm completely in love. Undecided on a name. So far Jasper and Clifford are in the mix. I'm also unsure of his age but he's 4 lbs and slightly underweight. Maybe 1 year? He has a vet check up next week so we'll see what she thinks.

How old do you think this guy is?

I will be adopting this male red tegu this week and I'm wondering how old he might be? Any ideas? He doesn't seem fully grown but I honestly have no idea. Thanks in advance!

Are reptiles/amphibians susceptible to poison ivy?

I have some beautiful moss I collected that I would love to use in my enclosures, but it was from an area with tons of poison ivy. Much of the moss was directly touching the poison ivy plants. Is it safe to use in any of my enclosures? Or is there a safe way to clean it? It's been drying for about a year, but my understanding is that the irritants are in the oils. I'm sure dawn could wash away the oils but I don't want to risk soap being around my frogs, or potentially the reptiles.

For reference, I have 3 snakes (ksb, ball python, honduran milk snake), whites tree frogs, and a crested gecko. Would it be safe to use with any of these guys?

This is George, the cuddliest buddy in the world. Also responds to Porridge and Monsieur Floof

He's a pom-poo-chi-supermutt. Surprisingly no terrier in his dna! Also featured is his brother Emmett the min pin dachshund cross

Does anyone have suggestions for bodies of water that allow dogs but aren't too cold?

This is probably a pipe dream, but I would love to find a good spot for my little minpin to swim. But there are a couple catches- it can't be super cold water because that's tough on his arthritis, and ideally it's not super busy with other dogs because he's fear aggressive toward dogs. I wouldn't let him off leash and I would be with him in the water the whole time. And we have some weekday flexibility to go to places when they're not as busy. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! Swimming is such amazing exercise for my orthopedic nightmare of a dog, but we haven't found a good spot yet.

Sylvester had his longest ever annual winter/breeding season feed strike this year - 5 months! Stressful and annoying but when he finally eats it's SO exciting!
