Hey everybody!

I'm looking to get more involved with larp/renfaire armor but have no idea where to start! I've never bought armor before so I have no idea how to do this lol.

Im basically looking for something similar to the photo, some chainmail, a breast plate, arm braces and greaves/leg armor etc. A helmet would be cool too!

I'm not looking to get something fully historically accurate, and not something I could fight in. Just something to wear around and look cool! That being said, anything better suited to compete with heat and longer wear while out and about would be great!

Where has everyone gotten their pieces from for their armor? Are there any good reputable sites where I can buy pieces without fear of scams, or is it always a gamble? What price ranges should I expect and are considered fair?

Also, has anyone bought off of this site, "Artisans Hub" ? it looks pretty beginner friendly but i've seen some AI or AI edited images so im pretty warry.

Additional info, im in the states and ik some sites might not ship worldwide </3

Thanks everyone!

GE Oven Heating Element search

Model Number: 164D3871 P001

Hi everyone. Heating element broke, piece I need seems to no longer be in production. I need something that's compatible.

Does anyone have any info on what this connection type is called so I can find Heating elements that will be compatible with my oven?

I've included photos of my oven, the broken heating element, the connection pieces on the wires inside the oven, and a heating element I bought that wasn't compatible. Mine was like a clip on attatchment, no screws involved. Just pulled right off.

Everytime I search for a replacement element I can never find anything that looks like it'll fit (need it to plug in not screw in), and everytime I use the model number to search for the original part it says the part I need is no longer in production.

I don't really have the money to just buy a new oven with modern/in production parts, any help to find a compatible replacement (New heating element in production for my oven has been changed and is not compatible with my oven anymore) would be much appreciated. Thanks

Linux for a College Student, Yes or No?

Tldr: is Linux worth using for a college student?

Basically, I've been itching to switch to Linux for a while now but my primary computer at home is too far established in windows for that to be my first step, I also play a lot of multi-player games there and with the whole anticheat issue I'm not sure I'm going to be making the switch there.

However, I don't have a school laptop.

I was thinking about getting a ThinkPad and slapping Linux on it, but I'm wondering if Linux is even good for college students?

A lot of software systems I have to use for classes are run through OneDrive/Outlook, and I'm not sure how that will work through Linux as I have no experience yet with the OS.

Has anybody used it for their classes? Is it too much of a headache and better to just debloat windows 11?

Thanks everyone!

Is Reddit ALWAYS like this?

I treat reddit as a wealth of information/personal experiences. I'm sure we've all had that moment where we're in a bind were not sure anyone else has ever been in, you Google something, and then bam top of the list there's a reddit post talking about the exact thing with the exact solution you need.

Because of this, I started spending more time on reddit to ask specific communities questions to learn more information (primarily about plants/gardening and the rare plumbing question lol). I often come here instead of Google or YouTube as I prefer to get a lot of information from first hand experiences and that just seems more prevalent here.

When asking my questions I can be as polite, cherry, kind, and considerate as humanly possible yet I swear 75% of all responses are just straight up rude and condiscending. There seems to be a lot of strange social hierarchy that goes on on this site that I'm not privy too as I'm not chronically online, but I'm never outright rude or mean, just genuinely curious whenever i make my inquiries. Yet so many people are basically snickering at my expense, mocking me directly, some even curse me out, and I've just never ever in my life ever been faced with a group of people where the majority are this incredibly rude and dehumanizing.

I understand the logic as to why people on reddit are like this, but WHY are they like this??? It's a choice they make and I can't comprehend living like that, even if the path to that sort of behavior is logically easy to understand.

Idk. People just being rude and miserable for no reason really irks me.

Anyone have any happy reddit experience to re-establish my hope in humanity? Or will reddit always be like this?

Help Growing Heirloom Tomatoes

Hi all! I've never grown veggies before and am totally new to it all! Recently I got a giant heirloom tomato from a farmers market, and figured just for funsies I'd throw the seeds into a pot with some soil from a previous tomato pot (it was a gift that didn't end up making it). Unlike the other tomato plant that died in there, these are thriving!

I want to ensure these end up surviving, but I hear tomatoes are pretty sensitive.

INFO:

  • I'm in zone 5b
  • Sprouts are currently in an east facing window and I rotate them every day or so
  • The heirlooms I bought were big and red (I don't have any photos of the og </3)
  • Bought from farmers market (not comercially)
  • These were planted about 1.5 weeks ago in a soil mix that came compacted into a disk and soaked in water
  • They are planted in a pot that dries quickly, like terracotta

Any information that would help these guys survive and then fruit would be very appreciated! I would love to learn how to help these guys grow as I really don't want to see them die and i know litterally nothing about growing tomatoes. I'm not sure when these seeds are even supposed to be planted outdoors, I kinda just threw them in this pot not expecting them to grow!

Thanks!

Ocqueoc Falls Campsite Questions

Hi everybody!

I'm going solo camping this weekend to fulfill my desire for adventure :) I plan on driving to Manistee on my first day, explore/hike around there and then drive to the Ocqueoc Falls area to hunker down for the night. Then I'll wake up, go see the falls, and drive home.

I'd be arriving to the Ocqueoc Falls area on a saturday evening (unless things change)

  1. How quickly do spots fill as they are first come first serve? Should I shoot for a certain time?
  2. How safe is it? I know anything can always happen but as a female solo hiker safety is a concern for me. Google reviews said it was a "safe spot" as Im sure a lot of families bring their kids here, does anyone else have a similar feel for this location?
  3. What is the entrance process like? Is there a post where I'll pay for a spot, and is it automated or manned, etc etc
  4. If its unlikely that I'd be able to get a spot, does anyone know any other nearby alternatives where I can reserve/not worry about a spot?

Thanks so much for the help!

Whats the GMM "Lore"?

Hi everybody, I'm going to apologize in advance if I come off as ignorant/insensitive, please know I'm not trying to upset anybody in any way. I'm an adult Gen Z, and I love watching GMM content. I was on the internet when I was young and watched them a bit there as well but they didn't stick as much as other creators (probably due to the fact that I was 11 lol) but everytime I watch an episode now, I feel a little bit like an outsider looking in, like I skipped a crucial stage or didn't study the right chapter for a quiz.

Meaning, I see how loved R&L are, I see how many people love the show, and I'm always hearing about Mythical Beasts and subscriptions and also those cute little bits at the end of the show where they spin the wheel of mythicallity. It seems like a well established "fandom" or community, and I'm just wondering what the history of the show is?

How did it get so big, turning into a huge community with such a devoted base and an entire franchise? How did it change over time? What did I miss as a child? It seems much more than just "hey we like these guys and think they're funny", this show seems to be a life line for a lot of people and ig I'm just wondering what the connection to the audience was like probably during its prime when I was a child.

How did they get so popular with such a devoted fan base? Did they establish some special social connection that I was too young to pick up on? I wanna hear how everyone fell so in love with GMM!!

Thanks!!

Limewash Sealer, What to know?

Hi all, I've used limewash previously for our Primary bedroom in our home and it looks great! I am currently working on our main bathroom where we take all of our showers (it gets pretty steamy!) and would like to use limewash again as I've just fallen in love with the stuff. I'm aware that many folks recommend sealers for rooms like kitchen and bathroom, but I hear that it can change the color, leave a film, etc. I didn't use any sealer on the bedroom, so i have no idea what to expect.

Does anyone here with Limewash experience have any tips/tricks for sealer application? How is it applied? (instructions manual is very vague) What should I do to ensure it wont leave streaks/milky residue? Is it glossy? How can I expect it to interact with the color? (A light linen color with warm notes, listed below)

Additional info:

  • Almost our entire shower area has tile, there is only a small strip of drywall above the tile that will be painted so little to no direct water contact
  • we plan on covering our entire ceiling as well, including within the shower area
  • our shower is a tub/shower combo with a curtain

Here are the products i'm using:

SEALER - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Vasari-Clear-Flat-Water-based-Sanding-Sealer-1-Gallon/5013288553

PAINT - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Vasari-Flat-Linen-2-Lime-Interior-Paint-1-Gallon/5013290745

Thanks for the shared knowledge and tips/tricks !!!

How to Handle Problem-ish Players?

TLDR: Players are upset that they cant be OP and our Dm needs to tweak his encounters

Hi all, I'll try to make this brief while also including all the needed context.

I am the DMs wife, and I am a player in his Homebrew campaign. Most of the Homebrew aspect is just adding fun things to the standard rules or custom character races & deities. We use a lot of 3rd party books, so lots of customization options for the players as well. We also have an exploding dice rule, as well as a card we pull from a deck that we can use to add to any role we want. If the card is not used by the end of session, it gets added as temp HP for the next session.

We have at the moment 5 different players including myself, and this is my husbands first time ever dm-ing. I might be a little biased when I say this as I deeply love the man, but I genuinely think he makes an AMAZING dm. He is incredibly great with building worlds and encounters that are creative and balanced, and is also very good at ensuring our party has plenty of tools and resources to handle our encounters. I have also had lengthy talks with him over critiques, so I don't sugar coat anything with him either and give him my honest feedback.

Here's where the problem comes in.

Two of our 5 players are about a decade older than everyone else and were perma-DMs for a very long time, never playing past 3.5 edition. This is their first time playing 5e, and although I understand there will be some disgruntlements over how the two versions play differently, I feel as if they are no longer having fun playing.

I also often cook full meals for our sessions, including fresh beverages and deserts and appetizers. We put a lot of effort into our DND nights, and when two of our players are constantly grumbling about how "stupid" something is during every combat encounter, its gets pretty disheartening, and the last thing I want is my husband to feel as if he's failing his players.

Here are the apparent issues these two have with how the campaign is going:

  • They claim all of the encounters are too difficult (I'd say 4/10 encounters have resulted in a single player going down before immediately coming right back up)
  • They claim they don't have enough cool equipment/resources to use in encounters and feel limited in combat
  • The enemies are too finely tuned to the players, meaning they are too smart and know how to properly address the players abilities

Their capabilities and special equipment:

  • For our lvl 5 monk player (way of ascended dragon sub):
    • Special Belt: Ups WIS by 2 (increased AC by 1 and Ki save dc by 1), allows him to regain KI points equal to a D8 rolls as a free action (1x per long rest)
    • Scales: For story flavor, the monk grew scales, which our DM said would give him an AC bonus of +1, also reduces piercing and slashing damage by 3 (proficiency bonus)
    • Has breath weapons
    • Has a melee range of 15ft (after using a breath weapon in combat)
    • Can do basic monk things like stun & etc
    • Can often deal 30-40 and upwards in damage per turn
    • Necrotic resistance (from race)
    • Bonus action teleport that grants resistance to all damage for one turn after casting (from race)
    • Bracers that give another +1 to AC
    • Head gear that ups acid damage by 2 (player crafted)
  • For our lvl 5 Cleric (life domain sub):
    • Is a homebrew turtle race that allows his AC to be upped to 21 by hiding in his shell as a reaction (goes prone, this has no movement cost)
      • While in his shell he has resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing dmg
    • can breathe underwater
    • Has resistance to cold damage
    • has night vision goggles
    • has a talisman from the god of death that allows him to mark a creature, and whoever attacks that creature next basically auto crits (damage is doubled) This is a Channel Divinity used as a bonus action.
    • Has a necklace of fireballs
    • Has a shield that gives advantage on initiative rolls and perception checks and brings passive perception up to 20, as well as increasing AC by 2
    • Has a base AC of 19
    • Has an Amulet of the Devout (Uncommon rarity)
    • Find familiar spell as a magic tattoo item

For context here, my warlock character only has a dagger that is on par with his spells and can let him speak telepathically, and a cloak that he does not wear. That's literally it. These two players specifically have been given goodie after goodie and do not seemed to be satisfied.

Our most recent encounter was the final encounter of our dungeon and was a culmination of all the puzzles/lore we encountered. In this dungeon there were crystals that absorbed magic and were often blocking pathways, these could only go away if they were "absorbed" by the player. After absorbing a certain amount of crystals you would get a point of exhaustion. At 6 crystals, the players would start to become "encased" by these crystals. This gave them a +1 to AC, but would take an additional 2d4 damage from enemies in the dungeon (this never progressed until the final battle). No player went past this point, and before the final boss we used another special item we were given to sleep in a pocket realm and lose our exhaustion points. This item is a homebrew version of the Bastion Rule.

We went into our final boss fight with all our resources and no exhaustion points.

The fight mechanics were encountered before the final fight through puzzles/exploration and went as such:

  • Magic absorbing crystals that were a part of the environment (a fully grown crystal) was considered "refined" or pure. This meant that they could negate all magical damage/effects as they would absorb it. This was not a part of the combat encounter as the bad guy essentially broke the crystal it was in to start the encounter, no longer making it a "pure" crystal.
  • Once these crystals were broken or no longer "pure/refined" all incoming magical damage was halved, it had resistance to piercing and slashing as it was a rock, but bludgeoning damage & acid was fully effective. (Cleric with mace, and monk with acid attacks OR plain punching blows)
  • Divine magic was not effective on this bad guy as it was story relevant (bbeg is basically a black hole and is beyond the deities and is something more eldritch and ancient)
  • After reaching a certain HP threshold the monster split into two (like a shattered stone)
  • a player specific NPC (not the bad guy) could use their reaction as support to reduce incoming damage to players (only 2x)

Our cleric, before combat even started, threw a random fireball at the refined crystal and it was absorbed entirely. This function was previously known to all players. This upset him, and he was further upset when during combat, our wizard targeted the now "unrefined" crystal structure that housed the bad guy and it dealt half damage. He then proceeded to sulk throughout the entire combat encounter and only cast healing spells on the party. We were using potions to free up his actions to allow him to explore other options, but it seemed as if he just gave up and only cast healing spells and paid little to no attention to the rest of the fight.

Our monk kept complaining that he "couldn't do anything" (despite dealing 47 damage in one turn, NOT negated but FULL damage, and despite having all of his buffs/special homebrew abilities and haste casted on him by the wizard), and would grumble about how this was "stupid", and moped around the entire time as well. He was upset that his necrotic resistance was ignored by the bbeg as again, the bbeg was the embodiment of necrotic magic and could override it as he was the creator of it, essentially. He kept complaining that the "one cool thing" he could do was no longer a thing and proceeded to dramatically sigh, roll his eyes, grumble, and basically give up on the encounter.

Both players seemed to take this encounter personally, our cleric even complaining, in his words, that "Its only (character name) that cant deal damage. Everyone else can deal damage, but not me". Im not sure how clerics played in 3.5, and I know that Clerics dont ONLY heal and should have options to do other things... but isn't the entire point of being a cleric to heal the players and be a support role?

Im not entirely sure if our Dm is making encounters too complicated/fine tuned, or if some of our players are upset that they cant be OP and blast through every encounter and hold the spotlight. Both characters get plenty of time "in the spotlight" through story elements, back ground/character lore, and rp moments. How should we go about handling this? Should our Dm make some changes, how do we handle these players and their grievances? Are the players out of line at all?

Any and all advice would be appreciated, sorry for the long read lol.

"Disconnected" Security Cameras, Do They Exist?

Hi yall. I'll try to make this brief. I've tried doing my own research but all I get are affiliate links/sponsored reviews so I came here.

My neighbors dog loves to come onto my yard, and now I suspect, is leaving nice little piles of hot and steamies on my porch. Yay. I've already KINDLY discussed with them about keeping their dog on their property, but I'm suspecting that it is not being listened to. I'm not going to tolerate their dog crapping on MY PORCH now, so I want to set up some cameras to document their dog coming into my yard incase I need the footage for any reason.

What I'm NOT looking for in a camera:

  • Subscriptions. I do not want my footage on a cloud at all. I want it stored on a USB stick/some form of hard equipment that stays in my home and that's it. This is non-negotiable.
  • Alarms/microphones. I don't need to speak through the cameras. I just need them to record.
  • AI "idenitfication" systems.
  • Any other fancy little gadget or features.
  • Security "systems". I just want a good camera that will notify me of movement in the yard, not a whole security system with excessive feature lists.
  • ring/doorbell cameras

What I AM looking for in a camera:

  • Clear-ISH footage. I'm not trying to read license plates or packages, I know what their dog looks like.
  • Wide camera lense
  • Outdoor capability/window mount options
  • Night vision would be preferred, if not I can keep the porch light on.
  • SIMPLICITY

I essentially am looking for a camera that is as close to putting my phone in the window and recording as it can get. Motion capture recording would be nice if I can get it as it would save a lot of storage, but if I can't get that feature without a cloud/subscription service I will not take it.

Is there anything out there that's like this that I can find? I don't care if it's old fashioned or older equipment, I favor those sorts of systems frequently anyways. Please help before I crash out at my neighbors (I'm trying so hard to be civil).

Weak and Wimpy Pothos :(

Hi all, I have 2 pothos plants (1st one features last, nice and healthy!) But my 2nd baby isn't doing so well. I bought it at Lowes and it was severely overcramped in a much too small pot so I decided to repot it. I've heard these coco liners can get dry, but I figured I would just water more. She used to be hung in my bathroom, but I moved her to a sunnier location once I noticed her getting droopy. I've also heard droopy/weak stems and leaves are a sign of them being thirsty, so I've been watering her more (about 2-3 times a week instead of 1x). I do have a grow light, but I don't leave it on long as i know they dont like direct rays, maybe just an hour or two to help with the additional watering. Some of the leaves are turning yellow and some have burned edges, not sure if it's from the new placement/excessive light or over watering?

Any advice? I've never lost a plant and I'd hate to see her die :( Should I prop? Repot to something smaller and not so dry? Trying to save her before it's too late!!

Thank you!! ❤️🫂🫂

My Boys have turned into Major Bullies :(

INFO: Age 23, USA, 2 male cats (2&5) 2 female cats (3&old unk) all neutered and spayed.

TLDR: 2 male cats are bullying our youngest (and newest) female cat.

Full rundown: I have 4 cats, and yes I'm aware it's a lot. The first two (Ducky&Sparrow, these 2 are the boys) were rescues from Virginia. Ducky was a stray who probably sired a few liters before I got my hands on him and had him neutered as an adult, and Sparrow was surrendered to me from a family who couldn't afford to care for him when he was 3-4months old. Sparrow has never lived outside but is trained to go on walks. Robin (the oldest female) was a stray who stayed on the property of our new house. After we moved in in October we took her in with us. There was the usual tension when bringing in a new cat, but all was settled. Robin sets boundaries, the boys respect them. About 3 months later, a family member of mine who works in hospice had a patient who passed. She owned a cat named Cinnamon, and with no family nearby and with us in a rural area, Cinnamon was going to be sent to a kill shelter as those are the only kind where I live. I couldn't accept that and figured I could at least foster her. My husband fell in love with her, and she stayed. We have her vet records and she is spayed.

We have a 2 floor home, 4 litter boxes around the house (spread out), 3 cat beds, 2 cat trees, a cat wall with shelves along the stair case that give them a high view of the living room, another cat wall attachment that they can climb sleep and play in/on, toys, a water fountain, a standalone cat scratcher, even a cat wheel for Sparrow as he tends to be the most active. All cats have their claws, I am only able to trim Sparrow and Robin's at as the other 2 fully refuse it. All cats get fed 2x daily 12 hours apart (8am&8pm) with wet food mixed with water all in different locations.

Basically, the 2 boys will stalk/follow/harass and chase little Cinnamon around the house NON STOP. Morning, noon & night. I'm writing this at 3am as I just had to lock both of the boys in our bedroom to stop them from chasing her. She has places to go, but she usually ends up backing herself into a corner and screaming at them and swatting at them from there. They don't leave her alone and I have to interfere. They don't stop unless separated. It's not always both of them at the same time (although it can be) but it's always one of them. Sparrows ears are up, tail high, and eyes big and Ducky usually looks calm with his tail down but his eyes are big and he will just push her boundaries and get closer and closer until shes screaming at him and swatting at him. Ducky is a very shy and timid cat and usually flees at any conflict so this behavior is strange for him. When i say Cinnamon screams, she SCREAMS. It will wake us up, it can be heard from outside. As a cat momma who loves her kitties very much it is very distressing to hear.

I am against the idea of re-homing as i dont think that is necessary and would cause more pain/stress to all the kitties and our hearts, especially my husband who loves her a lot. Im crying as i write this as i just want my babies to live together in harmony. I see that it can be done from other examples, so i feel like im just failing them.

Cinnamon is visually stressed and timid around the house and seeks out my lap for safety. They do not cuddle with her, and she does not enjoy their presence ever and will growl at them when they enter the same room as her (she even does this with robin) even if theyre not paying her any attention. It breaks my heart to see them like this as theyre all my babies and i have very distinct memoreies of them all calm and cuddly at some point with us. Ever since winter now all its been is stress for us and for Cinnamon.

Please help, has anyone gone through this and been able to fix this situation? I am working on getting lumber and mesh screens to enclose our back patio to make a catio.
