Solo Eggstraction

Team decided that I should carry the egg to extraction, while the other two finish the last objective on the map, the mega nest. Barely had time to enjoy the scenery, so many bugs on the way. 😅

Just another day in the life of a HellDad I guess.

The Heart of Democracy in Prosperity City | Crossover

It’s slightly an off-topic, but who can recognize this building? During my flight training to become a certified Pelican pilot, high command demanded that I practice in some historical fight simulations first. 🤷

TIL: You have to bind this repair and refuel option | Tips & Tricks

Had to crash my helicopter to show you what I mean. In case you break your aircraft, you can get it back on track with R1+Touchpad, but it won’t repair it! This will most likely result in the next crash… and resetting your flight in the menu will teleport you back to the last parking position. This sucks especially during group flight.

Luckily there is a better option, you can bind the „repair and refuel“ option in the settings, simply put it on the same key combination and whenever you reset your position now, it will be also repaired!

Fly safe!

Don’t trust your PSN stats, time played is affected by increased sim rates

This is some kind of funny bug, because I couldn’t believe that I should have played over 320 hours in just 10 weeks. So I compared this with the stats in game and what should I say, it’s much lower.

So what happened here is that I used increased sim rates during auto pilot sections in career mode to get the no skip bonus. The game apparently reports the mission time and not real time passed back to PlayStation for this statistic.

Check your stats, you might be surprised of the difference as well 😅

(Total takeoffs and landings also seems to be off, according to this statistic I’m not landing in about 2 out of 3 cases… Ô.o … I’ll fly mostly helicopter, maybe it only tracks airplane landing)

The history of Johan Pilestedt and the early years of Arrowhead

In the business of video games podcast, there are two recent episodes, which include an interview with Johan Pilestedt. He talks about how he got into the games industry and the early years of Arrowhead.

Episode 56: From the ass end of nowhere

https://open.spotify.com/episode/3oUhtVZvLVG9q5nuHQNzSW

Episode 57: We need to drop out of college now

https://open.spotify.com/episode/30YvVICAtlJopuMfddsDmG

For me working in the software industry, it was a very interesting story to hear and they proved once more, that success is not only based on luck, but also about being persistent and that you have to jump in and own it.

I hope they will also produce a third episode, about the development from Helldivers 1 to 2, this must have been an amazing journey.

Enjoy listening 😄

PS: The fun fact about Vlad was awesome, not even the wikis knew about it!

Eurocopter EC-135 | Maintenance Required

After intensive testing, careful review of many bug reports and feature requests about the EC-135, I can conclude for myself that the current flight model is bugged. In the dev notes in April, Joerg confirmed that Asobo will take care of the model in the future, handing it over from Nemeth Designs.

I tried to master this beauty without assistants of course, because I love this helicopter in real life. Unfortunately any collective setting above 50% or slightly adjusting the cyclic at high speeds leads to excessive torque and jolting of the aircraft. Also the tail rotor has plenty of issues, which have been already covered in multiple reports.

Long story short, I don't want to practice any further this aircraft based on an apparently broken flight model. You can fly it very carefully and still do your thing, but any advanced manoeuvres are extremely hard to pull of. So I put it back into the hangar, until they fixed it. It's such a shame, it was the next helicopter in line after the H125 I wanted to master. sigh

So I'm curious about your feedback, are there any EC-135 pilots here who managed to master it?

The higher they climb, the harder they fall | 496m Manhattan

We did some landing challenge with the EC135 in Manhattan, New York yesterday.

Viewer discretion is advised: if you struggle with heights or fear of falling.

My friend here accidentally stepped over the edge while trying to get a photo of me with the Central Park in the background. Since there is no falling damage and it’s only a sim, we took the liberty of taking it one step further.

Quite impressive, but definitely not recommend in real life 🙈 (also don’t try this in VR).

What it's like being a Medic/Support Diver in 42 seconds

Evening, Divers.

Got some Democratic Medic Diver footage with some random Divers the other day. Had a great time, but at times it was like wrangling a herd of cats.

Hopefully this video will deter encourage you to join the Medic & Support Diver Corps! And I don't mean a Discord group, I mean... like, pickup Sphteven the Supply Pack and Dr. Stimmy to spread the blue love juice and Bento Boxes.

Seriously, so much going on here. Dodging MLB players, FRV gained fiery sentience, picking up sample containers of the unalived, 5 million preparatory Stims or bubbles, everyone needs Supplies or Stims... even the other Diver with a 3/4 full Supply Pack /eyeroll.

HOWEVER!

(imo) The role itself adds another level of Difficulty when with random Divers, adding a challenge you may not have known the game had!
- Divers want supplies but run from you.
- Divers want Stims but dodge (only you) better than Neo.
- Divers want me to not flip the FRV and kill them, too bad my car my rules.
- Dr. Stimmy has a:
----- 50% chance to miss innately
----- 35% chance to hit a backpack, weapon or delfect off that cake
----- 15% chance to land successfully with a 90% chance to not heal the Diver in time.
- Constantly getting knocked down by RR and AB Divers.
- Never look to see where we are when using Ultimatum and Gigas... anything really.
(Note: 100% of the statistics above are anecdotal, but so very real)
(Note 2: Must have infinite and eternal patience, or Super Grass)

<puts palms on face cheeks>
Medic Diving is my passion, I hope it will be yours too.

TIL: Ground effect in relation to wing position

While progressing through the chapters of the FAA Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, I stumbled upon an interesting detail which I had already felt in the sim, but had not consciously understood before:

TLDR: Ground effect is strongly influenced by how close the wings are to the ground.

Cessna builds some of the most popular and beginner-friendly aircraft out there, and the high-wing design is one of the reasons why aircraft like the C172 are so approachable. Many of us have experienced ground effect during takeoff and landing. For example, during the final part of the approach, just above the runway, the aircraft can suddenly seem to stop sinking and keep gliding longer than expected.

That is ground effect.

More precisely, when the wing gets close to the ground, induced drag is reduced and the aircraft becomes more aerodynamically efficient. The aircraft does not simply get “extra lift”, but it can feel that way because it needs less power or less descent rate to keep flying. The closer the wing is to the ground, the stronger this effect becomes.

Recently, I started practising with the [Piper Dakota](https://www.flightsimulator.com/famous-flyer-12/), and I noticed that it felt much more affected by ground effect than the C172. The reason is that the Dakota is a low-wing aircraft, so its wings are attached to the lower part of the fuselage and are much closer to the runway during landing and takeoff. In comparison, the C172’s high wing sits much further above the ground, so the effect feels less pronounced from the pilot’s perspective.

You can test this quite easily in the sim by flying both aircraft at the same airport, in the same weather conditions. The Dakota will usually feel more willing to float, while the C172 tends to feel more attracted to the ground.

The position of the wings also has an impact on the natural stability of the aircraft. The Cessna’s high-wing configuration and centre of gravity contributes to a stronger natural stabilising tendency (like the weight of a pendulum or keel of a boat). It feels calmer and more self-correcting, which is probably the reason why high-wing aircraft are so popular for training.

The Dakota, on the other hand, is a low-wing aircraft. It feels more like the aircraft is sitting on top of the wing, which makes it feel more nimble and direct like a surfer on top of his board. Personally, I prefer the low-wing configuration, but I finally understand much better why the Cessna is such a popular plane.

Papua New Guinea | Group Flight

What an amazing landscape we experiences yesterday, Papua New Guinea's central mountain region is a real challenge for pilots. It features many short dirt strips to practice your starts and landings, while the mountains reach up to 14,793 feet (4509m) bringing not only your flying skills but also your aircraft to it's limits.

Shout out to all the people who organise those trips here, it's very inspiring! And I'll hope that my short videos help to get more attention of for this awesome community. :)

Fly safe!

Machi Picchu to Las Malvinas Airport | Group Flight

After visiting the ruins of Machu Picchu in the mountains of Peru, we decided to follow the river and ended up in Las Malvinas three hours later.

It was one of those spontaneous tours, where we just followed our gut feeling and more people joined via discord. At one point we had over seven aircraft on the EFB visible, but I had to turn it off after sunset, it needs a night mode for sure.

One of the best decisions during the flight was disabling name tags, so we had to rely on position lights, communications and aircraft models to identify each other, like in real life. It was awesome for the immersion and you should give it a try!

The video got a bit longer this time, but extracting the highlights from 3h is no simple task. Enjoy watching!
