I cannot stand society...16 Questions for my Nomadic friends(you)

1: What do you carry?

2: how much weight is the limit for you?/how much weight is too much?

3: did/were you able to prepare for this lifestyle?

4: what did you use to carry with you that you have since gotten rid of?

5: how do/would you defend yourself/valuables, have you had to?

6: how are you enjoying your life?

7: do you feel free? Are you happy?

8: what kind of skills do you have? (in a self reliance/survival aspect) did you cultivate them before hand or learned as you went?

9: do you ever meet with other Vagabonds/Nomads?

10: was this life style your choice or was it shunted upon you?

11: do you look down on people who prepare for this type of life like me? Do I seem....out of place or odd for saying I have been preparing for this kind of lifestyle? Would you hate people like me for wanting this? Do you think I am privileged?( if you do then that's fine, i dont care, but I am curious.)

12: was your choice of lifestyle influenced by how you feel about the Goverment and what it has been doing?(U.S posters need only answer this)

13: do you have a place of shelter? Do you create shelter?

14: in addition to being a Vagabond, do you also call yourself any of these things:

Prepper, Off gridder, Anti goverment, Nomadic, paranoid(not a diss I can't stand the state of the goverment but I won't get into politics) freedom fighter, Luddite, Lone Wolf, Anti establishment, Anti Capatialist, Anti-Tech, Peace seeking, Simple living.

Please feel free to add any.

15: do you steal in the name of your own survival?

16: do you like other people?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. It means a lot to me.

My gear list as I know it:

Savotta Jääkäri M 30L pack(telescopic top allows 10L extra if overstuffed)

2x 6L GPPouches

2x 3L hip GP pouches

1x OD Green Snugpak Ionosphere 1 man tent(hard to beat for stealth camping)

1x Advanced cook kit

2x Fire steels

4-7x hi-vis lighters

2x Fire rolls

1x fat wood stick

1x Fat wood permeated rope(fat rope)

2x isopro gas canister

1x Micro Jet stream cooking stove attachment

1x 15⁰ down sleeping bag

1x 4.4R value inflatable sleeping pad

1x 55G tarp(a large heavy industrial sized trash bag that is exceptionally thicker than most I can find)

1x tyvek ground sheet 5x8

2x Tarred&Braided Bank-line #36, #24

3x 50ft 550 Paracord

1x handcrafted IFAK

1x nitecore Flashlight(4400 lumens)

1x powerbank w Cable

2x Water filtration straws

1x Bottle Hanger.

3x Canvas needles

1x Silky Zubat Arbor saw.

1x Grans fors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe(or a Hudson Bay hatchet depending from C.T)

1x hi-vis orange 3V bush knife

1x S.D fighter.

1x neck/facial buff

1x pair of gloves.

1x sunglasses.

1x walking stick.

1x multi tool.

1x Shovel.

5x Caliber adapters (.22LR, .22WMR, 9MM, 20GA, 45LC/410)

1x titanium canteen cook set

1x titanium Grill

1x Bugnet

1x internal aluminum frame

1x emergency rain poncho

1x treated oilskin duster + Treated oilskin outback hat(not in pack

?x General Clothing.(shirts socks underwear etc etc etc)

Current pack weight about 34-45 pounds. I am not entirely sure. Gonna try to figure that out tomorrow on the weight scale. If soldiers can carry 120+ pounds in the Afghan Desert then I can do this. I am not an ultra lighter and I have the knowledge and capabilities to covertly make small structured shelters below or at ground level.

Currently on workout routine focusing on Endurance+strength

I completely understand my pack is heavier than is probably needs to be and I know all to well about how ounces make pounds and pounds make hell.

how would you improve this self reliance focused INCH style pack besides the obvious stuff I could cut out of the pack to save weight?

I do have intentions to add a 10-20L addition dead center in the middle for increased capacity to 68-78L but I don't believe I will really make use of all that capacity.

I understand this may seem exceptionally odd to some but I'm not asking for any hate or dissuading on the path I am choosing to take. I am simply looking for discussion and constructive conversation to improve my choice to become a self reliant pathfinder.

Again, thank you for your time and thank you for your replies.

What made you main gangplank?

Is it true that Gangplank is one of the more mechanically difficult champions to play? I heard he is the 4th hardest but I don't know if that is true?

I picked GP into Darius one day because i was told as long as i act hyper respectful(scarredy cat in lane) and just farm until ER...so i did just that and I proceeded to stomp lane so hard I got full build within 24 minutes... I feel like I connected with this champ so synergistically to the point where it just felt natural.

I already have 120k Mastery just through the years of regularly playing this game(Started in season 4) but now I think I want to pick him up and learn how to be a great GP.

Why does he feel so naturally...I don't want to say easy but I feel like he's right up my alley? Easy to understand how kit perhaps.

None of the enemies realizes I'm dropping barrels in team fights until 80% of their health bar goes *poof* all I do is take a backdoor like an ADC and drop barrels on heads.. gangplank just feels so natural to me.

I've been running DFT+inspiration(boots and biscuits) and it feels almost natural.

I am usually finding that after ER+Collector I buy 2-3X cloaks of agility to fortify my damage early on(before 20) and naturally farm them into items and that seems to be my bread and butter. What do you do?

This isn't just one game but a great many of them I am finding big Ws in games with myself having a large lead.

What can I do to improve my gangplank? I have been watching Solarbacca and he has taught me the intricacies on barrel mechanics and timers, but I am still wondering what I can do to improve.

At what elo do people start paying attention to my barrels in team fights? I haven't found those people yet and I am just curious when that may happen.

What ultimate do you upgrade first? I go with death's daughter first into the barrage upgrade and then the team upgrade as the last one.

Thank you for your time and replies (:

Hammock VS Tent advice.

What are the benefits of hammocking versus tent?

I'm getting ready for my biggest and longest hike ever which is going to take several months and while I have a nice tent system set up in my pack I was wondering if it would be lighter to go with a Hammock and under quilt?

My questions:

1:How much lighter is a full season Hammock system versus a single man tent system? (System example meaning: tent, ground sheet, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc)

2: what goes into an all season Hammock system?

3: what are some wonderful brands you would point me to if I decided to make the switch?

4: what are the biggest pros and cons of each system to you? What made you go with Hammock over tent?

Thank you for your time and any replies I may get (:

Hiking across America...need to get fit.

Long story short, I'm hiking across America and living out of my backpack being 100% Self-reliant as I do so. I've planned for a long time and I realized that I would have a much better time doing so if I got fit for the journey.

I have previously lost 110lbs in the past (265 to 155) and I would love some routines to create a strong and resilient body that can ruck upwards of 40-50 pounds across long distances? I have little issue rucking 20-30lbs for miles as it is but I want to really lock in.

I have a exceptional quality hiking pack that will not hinder me as well as quality rucking boots.

I do need to lose a bit of weight as I've gained some back

But nothing that some general exercise, 3-6 grams of ACV before dinner and a calorie deficit cannot fix.

What are some wonderful workout routines that focus on a strong core, legs, and really any part of my body that can be trained for weight bearing and prolonged walking?

Thank you for your time and your replies. I appreciate all of them.

Anti-survelliance materials?

Drones & cameras...CCTV etc...these days have thermal imaging, night vision or low light imaging, and other somewhat advanced ways to spot the enemy or humans in general..using heat signatures and other means that I myself am not entirely privvy to as it stands.

My question is, what materials counter a good number of these types of surveillance technology? What kind of material can be made into clothing, or perhaps shielding on shelters to counter being seen or spotted by the enemy? I hope I am being clear in my question. If so I will try to expand upon what I mean.

Thank you for your time.

Been planning on walking through the U.S..need advice.

I have been preparing and planning on this since i was 16 i have wanted this my entire life..but I had so many responsibilities in life...the biggest goal I wanted to make happen was to have my mother retire and recently that has come to fruition. I am 30 now.. So time has mostly been on my side so that I can collect gear and hone skills i find important to my life.

I have been practicing bushcraft and other survival practices for this purpose alone to be totally self reliant and Nomadic. Studying under David canterbury & Les stroud (to a lesser degree)

I have about everything I think I may need to fit inside a 58L backpack.(modularity can make it into a 70L If needed) with the main compartment(30L) full/overstuffed at 30-40L so far.

I have many questions and I would love to hear from all of you experienced Nomads.

1:if you could/or did: how much money did you or would you have saved up?

2: how do you spend it? Extreme frugality is the name of the game I assume. I can only guess it goes towards food...shelter...water..clothing..tell me how you look at it when you come into some money.

3: I am the most "East" you can get. Where do I look for a first location to go on foot? (MD if it matters)

4: what are some amazing places to go? Areas or state.

5: what are the worst places to go in your eyes?

6: do you keep a piece on you?(I will be carrying)

7: what are your daily goals that you try to achieve for yourself?

8: what does a bad day look like for you?

9: do you ever meet up with eachother on reddit?

10: what are the best train hopping spots and which ones would you stay far away from?

11:how often do you get bugged by pigs?

12: where can a vagabond/Nomad get some work? Are there apps or something similar?

13: got any general advice for someone about to set off?

14: what is the hardest part of the Vagabond/Nomadic lifestyle?

15: how hateful are you toward the goverment?

If you have any questions for me...what I'm carrying..clothing... how i execute and get things done with what i have....etc etc please ask and I will respond.

Thank you for your time, respect, and taking the time to reply. I *greatly* appreciate it. You guys are doing what I have dreamed of doing my entire life.

This bug found clung to my yorkies leg. Could it have hurt my dog?

Coastal Maryland 10PM. I took my dog out for a walk and he kept biting at his foot so i checked him out and i (admittedly had a huge panic attack, still kind of am) i flung it off of him...my dog seems to be doing alright and doesnt seem to be in any discomfort of any sort...I just had mulch delivered so I believe the beetle was in with the mulch...he was very difficult to get off my 6LB mini Yorkie.

All I want to know is if this thing could have hurt my little guy. 🥺

Off gridder LF new rifle cartridge selection.

Greetings reddit. I am an off grid fellow that currently lives quietly in the upper forests of Idaho. I have unfortunately had my previous firearm put to rest (H&R pardner 12G single shot)

So naturally I need a new firearm for not only bear; but also deer, elk, really anything on 4 legs I would like to be able to take down.

Here's my conundrum: I need this rifle to do a great many different things and I'm not sure what cartridge is best for me since I am being a bit picky.

I need a heavier caliber for the grizzly around here.

I would enjoy the cartridge to have 0 issue dropping a grizzly like a sack of potatos.

I need it to be exceptionally light or compact to the point i can backpack or hike with it. (Thinking 16-18 inch barrel)

And i also want something that I can shoot precision with (1300 yards is my personal best that I can hit semi-consistently but I do not intend to shoot past 800-1000 yards these days)

What am I looking at guys? What are my options?

I was looking at Ruger N⁰1 for a classic falling block but it doesn't come in .338 Win mag.

Honestly I have been out of the firearms community for a long time but I know dozens of new cartridges have released and I'd love to hear what has come out the gate post 2019

What cartridge sounds like the one for me?

Bolt actions/single shots/break actions preferred heavily.

Thank you for your time and responses and I look forward to discussing ideas.

What quality is remington at nowadays?

Back in 08', they got bought out by Cerberus and the quality went to potmetal levels of horse crap

So here I am, 20 odd some years later, wondering...are they still crap?

Remington owners please tell me about all of your guns that have been made post 2008. Preferably pre 2020 but I'll take everybody!

Ignorant Doomsday prepper looking for Hyper Mobile Radio set up. Need help

Hey everyone,

I'm a dude who's always loved being in the woods and wilderness and prepping for disasters..

Im in the finishing touches on a project of mine and ive realized ive fallen short on my knowledge about Radios not just fallen short....I'm absolutely ignorant of them. Which is sad because I've always intended to learn about them and now I guess the time for me is now!

Im trying build a Hyper-mobile but powerful communications setup, and I always saw others preppers/military guys reccomend Baofeng already so unless I've been led astray I think this community is the right one??

The problem is that I'm finding the radio community and the technology that emcompasses it...pretty overwhelming.

I'm really not a technology guy so much as a fire and steel caveman sortsa fella but I want to get something I can depend on too if that makes sense.

There are a lot of terms being thrown around like frequencies, repeaters, channels, offsets, GMRS, HAM, simplex, duplex, programming software this and antennas that, etc etc

I'd really like to understand how everything fits together rather than struggle any further by myself..

A few questions I have:

How do radios work? Is a radio or repeater what I am looking for?

Are they safe against all forms of detection or most of them? Or is it the opposite?

What problems with detection could I come across?

Is a radio and a repeater the same thing?

If I am using this technology how easy am I to track?

If I wanted a communications system that could be carried in a backpack, what equipment would I realistically need to be looking at?

What licenses (if any) are required for different types of radio useage?

Are there beginner-friendly resources that explain everything from the ground up?

What are the biggest mistakes newcomers make when building a radio setup?

What is a realistic range for a setup I am looking for? How many miles can I be connected (if any)

Do mountainous ranges cause issue with range?

Another question because I really do want to learn: have I asked anything outside of realism that would show my ignorance?

My goal isn't to build anything overly complicated. I'm looking for something that can be reccomended and taught to me with these parameters being most important to me:

Hyper mobile.

Powerful for it's size.

$1200 Budget.

Secure in the way where I don't have to worry about being tracked(if possible)

Easy to use.

Longest range I can get within reality.

Set up in a large pack (40-66 liters).

Thanks in advance for any advice, explanations, or learning resources you can share. I'm especially interested in understanding the "why" behind whatever is reccomended..

Thank you Baofeng!!

Looking for answers& inspiration I guess (:

I have outfitted my Jääkäri M with an additional 18 liters of capacity to make about 48-50 Liters(if overstuffed) with 6Lx2 and 3Lx2 pouches respectively, my question for the cult...what is the best pouch, pack, smaller carrying option to put dead middle? What would be best/most efficient to put here?

I understand the Askare is the perfect answer here but I don't enjoy way is it packed sideways. I would like a horizontal admin style pouch that zips from the top and it seems like it zips to the side..

I wouldn't be opposed to hooking up the Hatka 12L but I'd like to hear from all of you.

This is my first post here so thank you for having me!

Please post your set ups and give me inspiration.

Second question: has anybody tried the Rintamus Chest pack on their main bags?

Thank you for your time and answers!

Now that the dust has settled..

Not to beat a dead horse because I'm sure it's been talked about to hell and back...but now that Mike has been given the chance to explain and say his peace..and some time has now passed..what do you say? Will you ever buy/continue to buy a bark river knife/from bark river? How many do you own? Are you saddened? I'm very curious about how you all feel.

This is not their first controversy so I am told.. I only own 1 bark river knife and I personally love it to death.

Need some help please (:

Greeting knife makers. I have an odd request/question but ultimately I have no where else to ask being I was told to come here.

I have been to about 4 other subreddits and they all told me to come here to ask so I hope it fits the sub reddit.

I am the owner of a TOPS knives Szabo express (S/E)

I went to bring my blade into this standalone sharpening shop in my local area and I was promptly told that my request for serrations on the top side of my blade is not possible due to my knife only being 5/32s of an inch thick.

That being said, the designer of said knife has his own custom made serrated fighter and I would VERY much like to emulate it in the same or atleast a similar fashion.

I have since then posted to different subreddits related to blades to ask about this to varying degrees of success but ultimately it has made my lust for this to grow just a bit to the point where I would pay rather handsomely for this to come into existence.(I got hyperfixated on it)

Naturally I would just Email TOPS knives about it but I wanted to exhaust all resources available to me before having to mail in something that has...a lot of love and history behind it even with a possibility of it being a "No" from them.

I guess the TL;DR of my post is this:

1: Is it true that i cannot get this custom work done due to it already being treated and being so thin?

2: is there anyone (yourself or someone you know) in MD/east coast that would take this job on?

Thank you for your time and replies. I very much appreciate it all. Thank you.

u/rojas762 — 1 month ago

Help please.

Hello I am the owner of a single edge tops Szabo express.

I went to a mobile standalone sharpening gig in my area and I handed the gentleman the blade in question and I told him I want serrations added to the top side of my Szabo Express which has a top side false edge prepped and ready to be sharpened from the factory.

I was promptly told by the man that it is not possible to give this particular blade any serrations that would actually do anything..I left defeated but I felt like I was getting bullshit.

Is this man correct? I've been to 4 different subreddits aith 0 closure and at this point I would pay pretty handsomely to get this kind of custom work done.

Is anyone in Maryland or a neighboring state that would take this job? Thank you for your time.

u/rojas762 — 1 month ago

Looking to customize my Szabo Express. Help.

Sorry if this doesn't fit the reddit but I'm at a bit of a loss here.

I have been looking for somebody for about 2 years to see about adding an inch or so of serrations on a beloved duty knife of mine.

I currently have a single edge fighting dagger that I would like to have made into a double edge. The false edge on the top would ideally be 80% Straight edge and the remainder of the edge would be serrated, near the handle.

I have asked probably every reputable standalone Sharpening gig in the state and parts of the east coast...and the gist of the replies I get back are:

"Possible yes, but realistically it would never be any good. Because of the primary geometry of a dagger and single beveled nature of proper serrations. What will end up happening is you will have serrations that don't end up doing anything"

So I ask if anybody could throw some suggestions at me for a place on the east coast that would take this kind of job i would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your time.

Strongest synergies with GP?

What are some champions from different positions that have really strong synergy with gangplank not only in terms of team fighting but also in terms of powers spikes, Tempo, and late game strength? I would like to find a few champions I can reccomend to my duo who plays Mid a good bit but I would love to hear it all. Thank you!

customizing my TOPS, need help.

(TL;DR: can I find somebody to add customized serrations to make my (S/E) into a (D/E)?)

Hello knife club! I have been trying to customize my TOPS Szabo express (S/E) with relative success.

I've been doing enough training to where I have found myself fully comfortable to transition into D/E, that is when I saw the designer of this knife (Laci Szabo) had commissioned a custom D/E with serrations added (the sandstone colored blade) Obviously I want to emulate this style not just for the cool factor+intimidation but also serrations I find to be extremely useful and honestly I try to go with a serrated option when possible given my line of work.

So I went to my local standalone sharpening bussiness and was promptly told it is not a possibility because it has already been hardened/tempered. Is this true? I am honestly a bit saddened but I just wanted to make sure before slapping a regular edge on it.

So i figured I would ask the knife club! Is there ANY way to give my knife a custom serrated edge without it being an underwhelming add-on that doesn't actually do anything besides look cool? Money would not really be a question in this case.

Thank you so much for your time and I appreciate all of the responses if any come my way.
