Am I missing something? Where did all the Flex go in Toronto?

I walk back via Queens Quay from my office, and saw these 2 boats that seemed out of the ordinary. Pretty sick.
This is my first time getting an apple device repaired under Apple care, and the process seems a bit overwhelming.
Anyone here go through the repair process? I'm in Toronto and mailed my iPhone to apple since express replacement is not an option here at least for my case it appears.
Quick background- Dropped my iPhone 17pro on stairs (still getting rage baited at home for this), bent frame and cracked front glass.
Assumed frame is part of back, so I selected front and back damaged and sent it for repair and paid 88 CAD.
Apple tech reviewed the device and came back saying the frame is "Bent/Twisted Enclosure / Frame / Headband", and that this is not covered under something something (sorry I should have taken a screenshot of that page, it said something regarding not covered under Apple care and some consumer law stuff), and that I need to pay 129 CAD (+tax is 145 CAD).
So in total I paid 88+145=233 and waiting for the repair to complete.
Just curious if having apple care is worth it if we have to eventually pay this much for a repair?
P.S. - Apple support said Express replacement option is not available for my iPhone for some reason which even they couldn't tell why (at first they said the event the warranty is not showing up lol, which I believe they fixed on their end). I bought this iPhone in December 2025.
EDIT - Just concluded call with senior specialist and they confirmed that initial charge of 88 CAD will be reversed as they're now charging me 129+tax. Thanks everyone for your inputs.

Any tips or recommendations for initial setup and must do's and don'ts? TIA
