Given less hot sauce because I'm a woman??

Starting to get annoyed lol. I'm curious if anyone else has this experience!

I am a white woman. I go to a shawarma place approximately monthly with 3-5 of my male friends (who are all white except one, sometimes two depending who's there). The workers know us because we're regular, greet us, know our usual orders.

EVERY time, I have to make sure I stand there while they prepare it or they will give me an absolutely pathetic amount of hot sauce. One teeny tiny line across an ocean of white garlic sauce. My male friends sit down, chat, and get handed their food with a normal ass amount of hot sauce.

Meanwhile I get asked, "do you want hot sauce?" and then when I say yes they drip a sad little line across. Every time I have to go, "um, can you put like five times that amount please?" and then keep encouraging them to put more down while they hesitantly add one more line at a time. I get the same thing every damn time and I am the only woman in the group.

One of my male friends always gets extra hot sauce and requests it up front when he orders. I tried that once and got given extra white sauce instead, and the usual line of hot sauce.

One of my other male friends actually has to ask for LESS hot sauce because they keep giving him too much!!

Ultimately harmless, but mildly infuriating anyway. The hot sauce is barely even spicy. Why is there this assumption that women can't handle spice? I know it's not intentional on the workers' parts, they all seem perfectly nice.

Does anyone else ever experience this?

Considering the big switch to radiology but worried about burden on finances and relationship. Looking for advice.

I'm 30F in Canada. Right now I make $76k per year in QA in the cannabis industry (after 5 years). My job has no OT (salary so I have to stay late / work weekends for free), no RRSP matching, minimal health and dental benefits, no pension, no union, 2 weeks vacation, very little mobility (essentially couldn't leave the region) and what feels like very few options for advancement.

I want better QOL in my career. Something that feels like a "real" job that compensates me like an adult. My partner makes almost an identical salary but his job has all the perks mine doesn't. It's very frustrating because it feels like I work just as hard as him but receive drastically less in return, and have to be a lot more careful and thoughtful about saving, thinking about retirement etc. It just supports my life so much less. I'm frustrated and ready for a change.

I've been looking into radiology for a few months, and I'm seriously considering making the switch. It seems like radiology jobs have the potential for many of those positive job qualities I'm looking for. However I'm an adult with rent and other bills to pay, and I would have to quit my well-paying job and take out loans, as well as probably work evenings or nights somewhere to make ends meet. It would absolutely be a huge stressor financially and in terms of time, especially time with my partner. For this reason he is pretty hesitant about the idea - honestly I am too! I strongly value stability and this feels like it could be a big risk.

Those who were in serious relationships, living with their partner, and had all the adult responsibilities and bills when they pursued radiology, how did you manage this change? What were the effects on your finances and personal life while you were in school? What did you do to maintain your sanity, keep your stress low, and ensure your relationship survived unscathed? Do you recommend working while going to school?

Looking for personal experiences and advice. Thanks!!

Canadian Fencing Academy - Historical experiences

Hello - Curious if anyone has experience with taking classes at this fencing academy as an adult. I'm mostly interested in the "Historical" classes that focus on rapiers, but in general would love to know about the business itself. Is it clean, professional, good vibes, are the coaches competent, etc.!

Thanks :)

Milton Historical Society - Beginner Blacksmithing

Has anyone taken the beginner blacksmithing course here? How was it? Did the instructor seem competent, was it fun? Looking into it as a gift idea.

Thanks!

No experience - is it feasible to embroider on a hat at the public library?

Hello! My local public library has an embroidery machine that you can book time with. I want to create an embroidered baseball cap for a birthday present in two weeks.

Basically, how feasible is it to buy some materials and just.. go make something on the machine? Or is there a ton of complicated learning, trial and error, frustration etc. waiting for me? While I could also commission someone local, I like learning things and saving money lol. My main concern is just trying it myself, having it go poorly, and running out of time to have someone else make it.

I know nothing at all about embroidery. I've watched some Youtube tutorials and it's hard to accurately gauge difficulty / learning curve for a beginner.

Thank you for your help! :)

Questions about prerequisites and admissions processes!

Hello! I'm 29F considering the Radiography 740 program. I am a Canadian citizen living in Ontario. I know it's super competitive so I'm seeking some info on how specifically admissions for this program works.

In late highschool I did basically no STEM courses so I'd be completing all the prerequisites now.

  1. Do they consider my old highschool transcript even as a mature student who is doing new prereqs? My grades back then were okay but do not reflect my discipline or ability now, and the classes would all be so irrelevant.
  2. What about considering transcripts from more recent education, like college?
  3. The admissions criteria lists both grade 11 or 12 level courses being acceptable. Will I have a better shot at admissions if I do the grade 12 level courses or are results all that matter?
  4. I am an alumni of Mohawk. I did Medical Transcription right after highschool. Could this help my chances even if my grades were mid?
  5. Is there anything I could hypothetically do to increase chances of admissions (ex. Speaking directly to faculty) or is it really cut and dry and only based on the educational boxes you check?

If anyone has answers, tips, advice, or personal experiences, I'd love to hear it all!

Additionally, if you're in this program now, how are you liking it?

Thanks :)

Subway Canada Coupons (expire 08/16)

Does anyone have the recent Subway coupon codes for Canada / Ontario they could share?

I got a page of coupons in the mail, and carry around the two I am most likely to use. I'm hanging out with a friend today and we might get Subway, but I won't have time to go home to get the other coupons. I know there were better deals on there for two subs, different types he might prefer, and so on.

And of course the ones I have with me are as follows, for anyone who wants them:

BMTURKEY599 (6" Turkey Breast or Italian BMT for $5.99) and BMTURKEY799 (Footlong Italian BMT or Turkey Breast for $7.99).

Thanks! :-)

Returning to high-impact exercise - timeline clarification needed!

EDIT: Alright after receiving a slap on the wrist and being told 6 weeks is the norm/minimum, I did a much more thorough looking around... the results vary hugely (especially between scientific articles, and peoples' personal anecdotes) but I understand now mono recovery can be super deceptive and it's not worth the risk. Dang it lol. I'll continue to take it easy for the next two weeks and then slowly ramp up if all is going well.

---

Hi all, I was recently diagnosed with mono through bloodwork. I would say I've had an unusual case compared to a lot of people here as I only had severe fatigue briefly, on days 1-3 of symptoms. I was not diagnosed until day 17 (when most of my worst symptoms had already subsided), due to the lack of extreme fatigue causing several doctors to initially dismiss the possibility of mono.

Today, July 8th, is day 22 since the onset of symptoms and the only thing left is a few fading mouth sores. My life is basically normal.

On the day of my diagnosis, the doctor's assistant told me to avoid contact sports for 3 weeks. I'm a climber and clarified with him that bouldering can count for this due to the impact when falling off walls.

My spleen was never palpated or scanned. I have had no pain or discomfort or visible swelling in that area, at all, ever. Since then I've poked around online, and this recommendation always seems to refer to 3-4 weeks after the onset of symptoms. It also seems that an enlarged spleen is specifically associated with fatigue - something I have not had for 19 days.

As of today I'm literally past 3 weeks since the onset of symptoms! I have been "taking it easy" for what feels like forever lmao. I've done some light bodyweight exercises in my room since I started feeling better, and yesterday I went for a run and felt great. I feel genuinely fine.

Basically... when can I get back to bouldering? Should I push for a scan of my spleen? Make an appointment just to ask for clarification? I'd rather avoid having to take even more time off work just to do those things.

Did anyone here get clearer information from their doctors about when returning to exercise is safe? What do your experiences say?

Thanks for any advice! Wishing a very speedy recovery to you all and my deepest condolences for having to deal with this miserable illness. 🙏

Which Funnyplaying shell to get for original screen?

Hello! I'm interested in replacing the shell and buttons on my AGB. I don't want to upgrade the screen just yet. I know absolutely nothing about modding, and have very little understanding of electronics in general. I'm hoping to get into it, with baby steps.

Many folks on this sub recommend Funnyplaying shells. However on their site the only shells I can find are these (copied directly from the site):

  • HOUSING For GBA LAMINATED screen kit
  • GBA IPS/ITA/3.0 Custom Shell Non Laminated
  • GBA IPS/ITA Custom Shell

I have no idea if any of these are compatible with the OEM screen or if they are all made to only fit various screen mods. Would love some help interpreting all these terms as I am a complete newb at this.

Questions:

  • Which of these types is the best for just shell replacement, OEM everything else?
  • If I think I might upgrade the screen in the future, can I get one meant to fit screen mods and have it still fit OEM for the time being with no issues?

Thanks for your help! Seen some really cool stuff on this sub and would love to learn.
