My bf and I went to see the odyssey by Christoper Nolan, I am very unfamiliar with Greek literature other than the Iliad which I read an adaptation of during high school. I realize now that I havent really read an accurate interpretation/translation of the odyssey and tbh, I barely remember reading the Iliad due to the fast paced nature of my high school. Despite me knowing zilch about the odyssey, I felt like I was missing A LOT of context while watching Christopher Nolan’s adaptation. Is this book a good translation of the Odyssey? And is it necessary to read the Iliad first?

Hello everyone, as you have probably heard, we have been seeing an influx of bot accounts impersonating as black artists and stealing their art. In order to prevent this as much as possible, we now require that posts must have a flair attached to it. We have also adjusted crowd control to filter out potential bot accounts.

Literally the best concealer match I have ever experienced and it’s cheap asf??

Hello everyone, I am making a public announcement about a small trend that is rising in the community.

We have had to ban multiple low karma and no profile picture accounts for claiming artwork as their own. Some have even reached thousands of upvotes. This is probably so they can sell the account for its high karma to someone else that will then use it the spam other reddits. these accounts recycle content that was already popular in the community from a year or two ago. We are asking the community to understand the signs of an impersonating account and to report them immediately. I have listed a few signs of them down below.

Typically, when you go to their account, it will show that they are active in only r/blackartwork or one other community. They have no profile picture , low karma, and it will show that the account was created no more than a few days to a few hours ago.

They do not respond to comments

The titles of their posts make no sense or have several typos in them

Their content has from 500 to over 1k upvotes because they target pictures that were very popular in our reddit

If you reverse search their photo, it will go to an instagram account or website with a different username and is completely unrelated to their current reddit account. It may also go to the original reddit account that the artwork belongs to.

I am unsure what is causing this new development but I will be researching some parameters that we can use to prevent or outright stop these accounts from joining our reddit. In the meantime, please be vigilant and report any accounts that are found to be suspicious. Thank you!

Sometimes my skin texture peeks through my makeup and I thought I might as well embrace it but now I’m not sure if it looks silly or if its tea

Hello everyone, after 4 months of experimenting with color, I have finally figured out that I am neutral olive and can work inbetween deep autumn/winter. With my contrast being medium and chroma low.

My color journey began when I asked the community if I was cool toned, then why did terracotta/orange blushes looked better on me than berry blushes (original post here). Some of you guys mentioned me possibly having olive skin and I am so glad that that idea was introduced to me (I didn’t know that dark skinned people can be olive at the time) From there, I began skimming through r/coloranalysis, when I finally decided to ask the community, and boy did I get a wide variety of answers! most people could not determine whether I was bright or deep, as seen here, here and here. When it was all said and done, it became clear to me that I needed to do extensive independent research and not just expect an immediate, conclusive answer. I also learned that a lot of people here have preconceived notions of what color seasons fit best based on skin color alone, which I now understand to be an incorrect framing of what color analysis is.

This however forced me to actually sit with color, and study the undertone, value, chroma against my skin. I did this repeatedly over the course of weeks; I would pull out a stack of clothes and hold it against my face, even if it was a color I studied on my skin before. That repetition helped me train my color perception, so I could then determine what colors flattened my skin, washed me out, or complimented my skin.

I would say the most obvious indications that a color wasn’t flattering , at least for me is if it dulled out my lips, accentuated hyperpigmentation, flattened my face, or made my scleras appear grey.

Before I get into the actual observations, please keep in mind that picture analysis can only go so far; apple cameras like to make photos warmer than they actually are, and can have odd balancing discrepancies when some colors are held against the skin ( I noticed this the most with yellow). Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and I love hearing them! But nobody can determine color seasons with absolute certainty with just still photos, I think this is why so many people struggled with typing me. Also, some people perceive color differently and that can skew answers. Keep that in mind when looking at my color drapings.

One tool that was a huge help to me in understanding color values, contrasts, and undertones was the canva color wheel. Specifically for researching colors that naturally suited my skin. I would then research colors season pallets and make a mental note if I saw colors in a specific palette that worked well for my skin. This helped me confirm that I was a deep winter/autumn.

If any of these observations align with your own, you may be neutral olive with dark skin!

Clothing
My weakest colors are pastel cool yellow, pinkish white, pastel blue, and pastel green. These colors make me look sallow, sickly, extremely green, and accentuates hyperpigmentation around my mouth. I think it’s because it emphasizes the green tint already present in my skin.

Yellow in general is a controversial color for me; it has to be deep and warm for it to translate well against my skin (any hint of blue and I look like Im dying 😖)

My strongest colors are salmon pink, orange (especially burnt orange), coral, jewel green, deep olive, deep grey, deep purplish brown, plum, deep blue, maroon, turquoise, and any shade of purple. Deep but not necessarily bright colors work best on me (magenta can sometimes be overpowering despite getting lots of compliments when wearing it)

I look the most clear in maroon, deep olive, deep grey, navy blue, burnt orange, jewel purple and green, and purplish brown.

Makeup
Experimenting with makeup also helped me confirm my undertone; muted, soft, and slightly warm colors look best on me, whereas bright and cool colors washed me out. My most favorite makeup looks (found here) usually incorporate some form of terracotta.

orange color correctors or bright concealers weren’t as effective as a concealer with a slightly green tint for covering hyperpigmentation and dark marks. I think this is because my skin was more muted than I thought, so bright concealers still accentuated my dark under eyes, and orange color correctors failed to conceal hyperpigmentation because the color of my hyperpigmentation was grey-brown instead of blue or purple (which is what orange color correctors work best for)

Deep and bright berry blushes (say that three times holy) immediately overwhelms my face, and almost makes me look sunburnt. whereas terracotta, orange, brown, and pink blushes looked best and blended with the rest of my base makeup. I really tried to make deep berry blushes work because everyone said it should because of my deep skintone, however, it always looked like the blush was wearing me more than I was wearing it. I think this is because again, I assumed that my chroma had to be bright because of my skin color, but I was more muted which I refused to consider. This is why experimentation is just as important as researching. Berry blushes also didn’t work because the red/cool pigment was clashing with my natural coloring. Terracotta, brown, and orange blushes functioned better and looked like a second skin almost. This is because these pigments were complimented my golden deep skin-tone rather than fighting it.

Despite berry blushes being my #1 OP, I could still make cool toned pink blushes work. This is one aspect that helped me confirm that my undertone is neutral. I then learned that my main focus in my color analysis journey should be muted vs saturation as opposed to warm vs cool. Cool toned pinks are not as saturated as berry blushes, which means they sheer out better and doesn’t immediately take over the makeup look.

If you are researching your color seasons and finding it difficult, understanding the difference between chroma and contrast was a huge help for me. Conflating the two will cause confusion on which colors belong to which seasons, and that will cause you to incorrectly identify the color seasons that you feel suit you. Take your time and don’t expect immediate answers. Practice colors variations on yourself even the ones you hate. Repetition was also a major factor in deciding which colors flattered me or not. Most of all, don’t take it so seriously! To be honest, my color season found me when I was least active in researching.

I remember back in 2021 I was in a save and completely lost. I was very new despite watching my older brothers play it back in 2012. This red fox appeared out of nowhere and kept staring at my character. I continued to follow it and it would guide me and stop moving every time i stopped. Eventually i was lead to the exact location i needed to go to for the wise beards quest (the one where they teach you how to be a dragonborn) I didn’t have any mods because again I was pretty unfamiliar with the game. Has this happened to anyone else?
