HOLD YOUR HORSES IM AUTISTIC. Hear me out for a sec.
People lost their social skills during covid, and are further losing them by making AI do everything. I’ve noticed that people don’t really say “please” or “thank you” or “excuse me”anymore and it seems like everyone’s in a rush to go somewhere. If you work in a front facing job you probably know what I’m talking about. I don’t care for small talk, but it would be nice to be greeted first instead of just yelling “CHEESEBURGER” and slapping the card on the reader. Don’t even get me started on spacial unawareness when you’re out in public anywhere. There is no reason I should have to yell EXCUSE ME five times for someone to notice I’m trying to get past them. I guess there is the off chance someone could be acting this way because of a disability, but it happens so often I have a hard time believing it’s all of them. I never had this problem pre-2020
I think autism has gotten mainstream not because non-autistics are actually more accepting, but because they want to be socially inept with plausible deniability. Even most autistics I know say excuse me or greet people when they’re buying groceries. i guess it’s nice that I can have a stim toy out in public without getting laughed at, but now I just get the thousand yard stare no matter the situation and I’m not sure what’s worse.
I’m talking about those churches (not sure what denominations) where people twitch around and faint and speak in tongues. Are they doing it on purpose or is it a placebo thing?
ABA therapists stink and I think they need a little treat.
Actually no, I’m not a hypocrite, I’m just traditional. I don’t want an abortion for personal reasons, I date for marriage, and to me the ideal husband can provide for the family. “Ermmm but I thought you were a feminist” yeah because this lifestyle isn’t for everyone. These rules apply only to ME. If a woman wants to be a single CEO she should be free to do so. I’m also not holding any man hostage and demanding he be a trad husband. I know this may be big news to some people, but I don’t feel the need to force my lifestyle on others! I can abide by traditional gender roles without judging people who don’t!
EDIT: Having a life path I choose to follow isn’t “cherrypicking”. You guys sound like the people who accuse gays of “forcing their lifestyle on us” for not hating themselves. Same shit, different font.
Hi, I’m new to rosary making and I’ve made a few out of paracord. I want to get more into making wearable paracord rosaries like the ones you see on RuggedRosaries or other Etsy shops. For those who make this style, where do you get your beads? I used basic pony beads from michaels but they’re too small.
Their bodies are morphing at a rapid rate. They’re hit with adult responsibilities and existential crises like “what career do I want to do for the rest of my life until I retire or die?” But still have to ask to use the bathroom. They can no longer ask “I like your backpack, do you want to be friends?” and need to adapt to cliques, hierarchies, and dropping hints about everything. Adults think all of your interests are stupid and frivolous (especially if you’re a girl) and any change in personality means you’re an edgy contrarian and not just exploring yourself.
I’m an adult but if one day I found out I would randomly grow a foot taller within a year, get a better paying career path forever but still have to ask my boss permission to pee or leave, and everyone would assume the worst out of me because people who grow a foot taller are stereotyped as moody, I would crash out too.
Gen Z goth here. I’ve been here long enough to know trends ebb and flow in goth culture like our visibility in the media, the way new bands sound, and niche fashion like pastel/cyber goth that people argue over whether it’s “real goth”.
I want to ask the older generation (“older” as in has been active in the goth scene for 20+ years) how much the expectations of what a goth acts like changes over the years? I remember in the 2010s it was common for alt girls (not just goth) to make fun of “preppy/other girls” and they had a lot of misogynistic and slut-shaming undertones (ironic given that goth never struck me as puritan lol) It died down for a while and I’m seeing it resurface again but more political for some reason. Does this happen often? Is it just a fad in the ragebait era?
I’m kinda new to incense making and i made cones with mostly frankincense and myrrh and a bit of rose and peppermint sprinkled in. Just burned some and it smells like straight ass, like the type of farts you have after eating something really spicy or with garlic in it. Why is this and how can I lessen the ass smell in the future?
(i will be talking about Christianity bc that’s what I am and see most, but this can absolutely be applied to any religion)
I have OCD and am also religious. I can NOT under any circumstances engage with other religious people online. Now I’m not trying to armchair diagnose anyone, but when you have a mental illness you can sometimes see symptoms you have in other people. I’m convinced most Christian content creators online either have severe unchecked OCD, or are “influencers” preying on these people.
For one, most of their content is just freaking out about their “sins”. In quotation marks bc often times these aren’t actual sins, it’s just some shit like watching a movie with magic in it or saying “god damn it”. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to avoid those things, but when you start compulsively praying in your head “SORRY GOD I DIDNT MEAN IT YOU CAN DAMN THE THING IF YOU WANT BUT ITS YOUR WILL HAHA. I WOULD NEVER USE YOUR NAME IN VAIN PLS DONT SMITE ME” there’s a problem. And if you dare to suggest they might have OCD or some other mental health issue, how dare you for tempting them into sin and infringing on their religious freedom! COMPULSIONS ARE NOT HOLY. Compulsions DO NOT make you a better Christian. OBSESSIONS AND COMPULSIONS JUST DETERIORATE YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING AND MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE OVER TIME.
Don’t even get me started on all the stupid questions people post on reddit asking if something is a sin or not. No, fortune cookies are not witchcraft. Yes, you can get a check up from a doctor who supports birth control. No, Kpop demon hunters won’t summon actual demons into your home. I’m not even talking about jehovahs witnesses or any of those weird niche religions, it’s often people from mainstream Christian denominations like Catholics or Protestants asking these questions. It’s not normal to be scared of everything! Get evaluated! And yes, God will still love you if your therapist supports gay marriage!
Sorry if this is a silly question, this is my first time doing this kind of thing. In the past, whenever I had issues with religion I just stopped being religious or switched to being new age/Wiccan/whatever. But my faith is (slightly) stronger now and I would rather snitch than abandon it completely.
If I want to complain about the direction my parish is going in, would I have to say specifically that it’s “saint x catholic church”? I also don’t know how bishops handle this kind of thing, if they contact the church directly or release a statement of some kind. I’m also worried about being outed, or the specific priest I’m complaining about knowing instinctively that it’s me. I have an issue with him turning homilies into culture war rants, and I have a very stereotypical look of his (not stated, but very obvious) opposing political party.
I am a Roman Catholic and I have some questions about Orthodoxy and visitors attending services.
The Catholic Churches in my area have a tendency to be very politically charged and it’s been increasing a lot in recent years. I understand there are some Christian teachings which tend to get politicized such as abortion, marriage, etc. but my home parish has been starting to sound more like a Charlie Kirk podcast than a divine liturgy. I’m not trying to find a “woke” church necessarily, just one that focuses on God over culture wars.
My first question, is do Orthodox churches tend to be influenced a lot by where they’re located like Catholics are? And to what extent? (For context, our parishes tend to range anywhere from very progressive to far-right depending on the attendees in that area) My second question is would it be disrespectful for me to attend an Orthodox service when I don’t even know if I’ll convert? I’m open to it but I don’t really have a plan, if that makes sense. I just don’t want to be hogging seats from actual Orthodox Christians
I’m a Roman Catholic, and it seems like everything I hate about big corporate megachurches is seeping into what is supposed to be the universal church. I don’t want to hear about the priests personal political views. I don’t care if gay people make you feel icky. I came here to hear about JESUS and he wasn’t mentioned even once. Even if you agree with their politics, why should I hear about it in church? We’re supposed to love God more than we hate anyone else. If I wanted to be preached at regarding who to vote for with God mentioned as an afterthought, I would turn on Fox News.
I spent the first 12 years of my life going to Mass and never did they discuss politics. Even a few years ago, when I started going to Church again, there was this unspoken rule of “we’re Catholics first, whatever chosen party second. Keep your politics to yourself.” I can’t prove it yet, but somehow I feel like this is distantly related to Texas being the first state to require the Bible in schools, despite not being from Texas myself.
Oh and on top of that, all the fliers use AI despite Pope Leo saying not to! Because of course they did. Something being “unnatural” is only ok if it lines your pockets I guess.
May or may not become a Christian grifter in 3-5 years
I see this a lot with alternative medicine and healing stuff. “Crystals are demonic!” “Astrology is demonic!” No…they’re pseudoscience. People like crystals because (allegedly) they vibrate at a frequency which heals certain things. People think astrology is legit because (allegedly) the stars have a gravitational pull which makes us feel/act a certain way.
These assumptions don’t come out of nowhere. Physical matter DOES have vibrations. The moon at least, DOES have a gravitational pull that causes tides. This is 8th grade level science. Now of course we don’t know if stars several galaxies away have any affect on us, or if the microscopic vibrations from crystals and reiki can transfer healing energy between matter, but thats exactly what makes it PSEUDOscience and not actual science.
While there is a discussion to be had about people who treat pseudoscience like it’s fact (looking at you, astrology fangirls who think Geminis are all two-faced) it doesn’t summon demons or whatever. Demons, if you believe in them, are not powerful or important enough to be summoned by an amethyst bracelet from Spencer’s.
EDIT: New pet peeve just dropped. Defending these people because “that’s their religion”. BARF.
The interview process is annoying, and I hate that you can’t just answer questions honestly. Everyone fakes an “interview personality” which defeats the purpose of one. Don’t even get me started on the stupid body language shit like eye contact and no fidgeting.
Interviewees (not actually looking for a new job ofc) should start breaking all the social rules on purpose. Make so much eye contact it gets uncomfortable. Fold your hands on the table and hold the same pose the entire time. Maybe pick your nose once just to spice things up. When asked if you have any questions say something outlandish and completely unrelated to the job like “if you were lost in the woods what would be the first thing you eat?” or “If you were a fish, what type of fish would you be and why?” Give recruiters and HR a taste of their own medicine.
I get it. Some people don’t want to smell “like a grandma”, and probably read some cosmo article about how vanilla triggers pheromones in men or whatever. But the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction and so much of women’s perfumes smell like shit a 14 year old would pick up from Claire’s.
I wouldn’t care as much if options were more varied, but I prefer woodsy/nature notes more common for men and I don’t want to smell like a man either. Shopping for perfume as a woman who wants to smell like an adult feels like choosing between “strawberry cupcake princess” and “angry drunk grandpa”.
