i dont really know what kind of answer im looking for but i guess i just need insight from other people. so let me tell you about her - my mom has always been really strict with me, but its mainly just with specific things. like she lets me go out usually when i want, shes just mainly strict with if its with guys or if another friend is driving me, which is pretty normal. the thing she's really strict about is social media and the internet, which yes is understandable but im 17 right now and i dont have any socials at all. she doesn't even let me play roblox 💀
you may be thinking, why dont you just have a conversation with her about it? well my mom is probably the worst person to ever try to confront because she has a tendency to act like shes always in the right, even with my dad. whenever you talk to her, sometimes she just makes you feel stupid. whenever me and my sisters need to ask something from her, we always feel a bit nervous or awkward for some reason. another thing is that she gets upset/mad over the tiniest things. like if my room is "messy" even if its just a bit of clutter on my desk, or if someone forgot to vacuum our bathroom, she yells at me and acts like its all MY fault even when it isnt even a big problem in the first place. she just makes me and my sisters feel really small sometimes. and when she gets really upset, she acts totally fine like 10 minutes later, and is all clingy again. which is actually really anger inducing for me because made me feel like crap a few minutes ago. she always targets either me or my dad whenever shes angry.
i think she also has trust issues with my dad because theyve been getting into lots of arguments lately, probably because she thinks my dads doing something suspicious. my dad works from home and hes an engineer, meanwhile my mom is a stay at home mom. anyways, i dont know exactly whats going, they have arguments in a language im not fluent in. but whenever it happens, im pretty sure she completely wrecks one of my dads belongings. she smashed his 3d printer, and im pretty sure some of his work monitors or computers. i dont know if theres actually proof of him doing something weird, but their arguments are so frequent that i think its just a cycle of my mom being paranoid. i heard my dad say that he feels wronged because hes always doubted, especially cause my mom has like all of his passwords and he gave her access to things just so that she could feel more secure.
also, my mom keeps EVERYTHING on her phone private btw. my dad has no access to her phone, her messages, nothing. but my mom knows his phone password and everything. so i just think its totally unfair. again, i dont know all the details for their fights, but from my perspective right now, it seems like my moms in the wrong. she even locks everyone out of her room when it happens, including me and my sisters. it happened for a whole weekend once where i didnt see her because she stayed in her room, so it was just my dad doing everything.
heres more points that may be important, please ask for details if it helps:
- my moms relationship with my grandfather doesn't seem very good, as he married again after my grandmother died with cancer. my mom and him don't talk as much, but i think thats my grandfathers fault as he doesn't really try to keep in touch much.
- she makes me feel stupid by saying i dont have "common sense" even if i just make a small mistake?? and when i try to correct her for something she somehow finds a way to be like "well what i said was still kind of right" and she gets all defensive. she thinks im trying to mock her when im just trying to correct her?
- my relationship with my dad is much better, and hes more empathetic with me and my sisters. its what makes everything so suspicious - my dad surely doesn't seem like the type to do something hurtful, and when they argue he seems desperate to make things better or make her understand. i feel like he understands our feelings more because he's already experienced these tendencies with my mom often.
- my dad doesn't really have any friends other than from work or his old friends in another country. my mom however has more friends and is in touch with most of them. she acts completely different with her friends, and often seems perfect. she's very extroverted and her friends probably see our family as perfect on the outside.
- more of a personal thing about me but i remember being little and my uncle (her brother) who lives in a different province visited us every now and then. i used to be absolutely devastated that i sobbed when he left, not just because i missed him, but because i knew my mom would change again. she'd be all happy around everyone else, but in our family, shed go back to being upset over little things, and once again id take the blame for everything.
- when she isnt upset, things are pretty normal. shes supportive for the most part, and shes good at showing that she loves us. she really likes to spend time with us too, and of course i still love her. its just that things go downhill really bad at some times, to the point where i feel overwhelmed and just really sick of her.
TL;DR my mom has a habit of blowing up over tiny things, making me and my sisters feel stupid, then acting like nothing happened minutes later. she also constantly accuses my dad of being suspicious, has destroyed his belongings during arguments, controls almost everything we do, and i honestly don't know if this is normal anymore.
some unis i want to apply to have a deadline to accept offers by may, so i'm really hoping ubc doesn't make me wait too long 🥹
im please answer any of these for the following universities: UofA, UBC, UWaterloo, UCalgary, SFU, UVic, McGill, and MRU. (i'm probably going to go into bachelor of arts or commerce, and im from alberta)
if you have any other information that would be good to know please share as well, thank you!
im actually from alberta, but im planning to apply to ubc arts (maybe majoring in english) and i want to prepare myself for uni apps. these are some questions i have:
what important attributes/characteristics of myself would be most important to emphasize? what examples of experiences could this be linked to?
i don't have many extracurriculars, mainly just dance team and other personal passions/hobbies. how can i make up for this with what i say about it? how do i make it seem more interesting?
what should be my first steps in planning what to write? for anyone who has applied to ubc, what was your process like?
any answers are appreciated, and please let me know if you have other advice!
my final is just going to be a multiple choice test, mostly source-based questions. im not too worried because i normally do pretty well on these but i wanted to know if anyone had any studying tips or methods. what i usually do is just look at definitions for words i should know, but there's definitely another method out there thats more effective than this. please lmk!
this is kind of just a fun post, nothing serious, but theres this cute guy in my school and we have a lot of mutual friends however hes graduating tomorrow and i have like 2 days left in the same school as him basically. if i were to try to get to know him and actually talk to him and stuff, how do you guys think it could go? hes literally going to move on from highschool soon but yeah i just think hes the best looking guy ive ever seen in real life. but when i say we have a lot a mutual friends i mean A LOT like i swear everyone is friends with him but me 😭

im learning how to drive and my lessons are almost done so i plan to do my road test soon or during summer break! i heard that its better/easier to do the test in crossfield but does anyone have more advice for me? whats the road test like?
i was wondering if there are any books i could read to make me more familiar with some important topics and to just further my understanding of different things? also just to help me prepare for more writing assignments and stuff
im in gr11 right now and im doing social 30-1 in summer school. normally i get 80+ for my written responses and 80-90s for multiple choice tests. considering how much the diplomas worth, what would be a good/safe overall grade before the exam to make sure i end with at least a 90% final grade or preferably a 95 or so?
i have no idea if this is allowed but if it is would anyone be willing to send me their personal profile for ubc arts?
i keep on thinking about my future and i feel like i found some uni programs id be interested in studying. but im just worried about if ill be able to make a good amount of money with whatever degree i get.
i want to possibly do a bachelor of arts and maybe major in english. uwaterloo also has a program for rhetoric/media/professional communication which are things im interested in as well. i'm definitely more of a social studies/english girl than a math and science girl.
i feel like im even more indecisive because i do have the grades to go into science/engineering, and the money would be amazing if i did. but i think ill be depressed if i did that stuff cause i really despise it... so what kind of careers in canada do you think i could potentially go into that would pay good? would i need a masters or phd? im aware that jobs in the type of major i want to go in arent typically super high, but yeah i dont want to be doing a job i hate for the rest of my life 🥹
im a joshua bias and im really excited to see what he ends up coming out with in the future. he's mentioned acting being one of his goals and that hes taking acting classes, and also that he's been producing music these days.
im curious where everyone else thinks his solo career will go and if anyone has any predictions/hopes for what he'll do! i personally would LOVE a solo album that has like chill/soft vibes because it matches his gentle side. i hope he'll get to showcase more of his vocals (or his secret rap skills, who knows lol.) but yeah itd be interesting to see him act too! i also want him in more variety shows because i really enjoy that.
