Beyond hello prices are driving me crazy

the fact that we are still dealing with these crazy prices in virginia is wild to me. looked at my bank statements from last month and the amount of money I threw at the fairfax location for dry, popcorn buds is depressing. sixty bucks for a half gram cartridge of basic distillate is literal highway robbery and they really have a monopoly on the local market and they know it

been trying to find ways to bypass the va dispensary markup lately. last weekend when I was up near the border i tried out a delivery service called Weedz instead of dealing with the usual line and price gouging at the medical shops. The stuff actually smells fresh and doesn't crumble into dust when you touch it, plus it didn't drain my entire wallet. the packaging was completely discreet too which is nice since my neighbors are kinda nosey

idk how the state expects the mmj program to thrive when they let these multi-state operators charge premium prices for subpar product. it feels like you have to go out of your way to find a decent alternative that doesn't rip you off.

planning trip to texas hill country in june and need recommendations for places to stay

im heading to texas for the first time in june and looking for a comfortable spot for about a week with good access to nature and local spots. i usually check booking.com but also found stay local booking platform online with their vacation homes and ranches that look nice and well equipped.

never tried local booking sites before since its my first trip so wondering if local platforms like that are better than the big booking sites or if anyone has tips on where to find solid options without overpaying. any advice on areas or what to look for would help a lot.

what makes a cookie perfect to you

I was baking cookies earlier and it made me realize how different everyone’s perfect cookie is. Some people love them soft and gooey, others want crispy edges with a crunchy middle.

For me, warm cookies straight out of the oven are impossible to beat, especially with dark chocolate chunks instead of chips.

What’s your ideal cookie texture?

My 3 year old phone is finally dying. What’s actually worth buying right now?

I’ve reached that point where my battery barely lasts until lunch and the screen lag is becoming a daily struggle. I’ve been using the same device for over three years, so I’m a bit out of the loop with the current market. I’m looking for something that feels like a genuine upgrade, specifically a phone with a top-tier camera for detailed close-up shots and a display that stays sharp even in direct sunlight. I don't really care about brand loyalty; I just want something reliable that won't feel obsolete in twelve months.

From constant bloating and 3 PM slumps to actually feeling like myself again, my smoothie evolution story

For years I struggled with classic girl problems, afternoon energy crashes, persistent bloating, hormonal swings, and skin that just wouldn’t cooperate. I wanted to eat healthier but prepping fresh greens every morning was unrealistic. My smoothies were either bland, gritty, or left me hungry again in an hour.

Then I started adding a quality super greens powder as my daily base. I use this organic blend mixed with frozen berries or banana, Greek yogurt or protein powder, almond milk, and sometimes ginger or nut butter.

The difference after a few weeks was noticeable:

  • Much steadier energy throughout the day
  • Less bloating and better digestion
  • Brighter skin and more balanced hormones

Interesting fact: most people don’t hit their daily vegetable targets, and a good smoothie helps bridge that gap with concentrated nutrients like spirulina, chlorella, and wheatgrass without drinking a salad.

It’s not magic, but it made my smoothies tastier and more consistent. I still add fresh ingredients when I can.

What’s your favorite combo? Would love recipe ideas!

I spent three weeks on a landing page for a B2B SaaS client. Nailed the voice, the hooks were tight, everything flowed beautifully. Conversion rate was doing solid numbers in the US for the first month

Then the client decides to expand to germany and france. They didn't even consult me or ask for a localized strategy, they just ran my english copy through some cheap AI tool and pushed the domains live

a German colleague sent me the link yesterday just laughing. apparently my opening hook about "cutting through the noise" translated literally to "slicing the loud sounds with a knife" or something equally psychotic. The entire psychological angle I built into the lead was completely destroyed.

it just hurts man. u spend all this time getting the pacing and empathy right and they treat your words like meaningless data blocks that can just be swapped out 1:1 in any language. like why even hire a native english copywriter if you're going to treat the text like that for your global markets?

I'm updating my freelance contracts this weekend. From now on if a client wants international usage rights for my copy, there’s a mandatory clause. They either hire a local transcreation copywriter for that specific market, or they have to use adverbum or another actual human-in-the-loop localization agency so the context doesn't get completely butchered

im not letting my work get turned into word soup just because some finance guy wanted to save a few bucks on a global rollout. just so frustrating when you care more about the final product than the people actually selling it.

not looking for action heavy stories or political summaries, more something that shows the human side in a way that feels honest, complicated, and not simplified

could be fiction or non fiction, but something that stayed with you because of how it handled people under pressure, fear, or survival

what would you recommend and what made it stand out for you?

Sometimes you can be playing for years and still have a habit that’s quietly holding you back without you noticing

For me, it was rushing shots instead of reading the defense properly first. I thought I was being aggressive, but I was really just forcing bad looks way too often

What’s a mistake you only realized later was hurting your game?

I’m 44 and hadn’t been to the dentist in years because I hate the whole experience.

A coworker told me about a big chain, so I booked a routine cleaning at one of their Aurora locations with zero pain or obvious problems. The dentist spotted a tiny white patch on my tongue that I never noticed, did a quick biopsy for $95, and it turned out to be early-stage. Surgery was minor, I’m totally fine now, and that one appointment probably saved my life.

Has anyone else had a dentist catch something big during what you thought was a boring routine visit?

Reminder to go even if you hate it, I’m glad I finally did.

I had braces a while ago and my teeth are straight now, but I keep hearing different things about retainers.

Some people say you only need them for a year or two. Others say it’s basically for life (at least at night). My orthodontist mentioned long term use, but I’m wondering how strict that really is.

I don’t mind wearing it, I just want to understand if it’s actually necessary or more of a “just in case” thing.

Have you seen teeth shift a lot in patients who stop using retainers?
And realistically, how often should someone wear it years after braces?

I was underpricing my product for a long time because I was afraid higher prices would kill sales

Finally tested a price increase (not huge, but noticeable), and surprisingly:

  • conversion didn’t drop much
  • total revenue went up
  • fewer “problem” customers

Now I’m wondering why I didn’t try this earlier

Curious how others approach pricing - do you test it regularly, or mostly set it once and leave it?

I’m not looking for cookbooks or memoirs, just fiction where food is written in a way that sticks in your head, like you can almost taste it or it becomes tied to the characters and their lives

I’ve heard of things like Like Water for Chocolate or Butter Honey Pig Bread where food is tied to memory and relationships, not just background

what are some books where the food actually mattered to your experience reading it

I’ve been doing ballet and contemporary as an adult for a couple of years now and I’ve tried quite a few brands. Now my favorite is Energetiks. The material is soft but still supportive, they don’t ride up during class, and they wash really well without losing shape. What leotards are you all loving right now? Any particular styles or brands standing out for you?
