A guide to identifying Space Marine Scout sculpts across editions (Rogue Trader to Kill Team Salvation)

Full guide here: https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/08/16/warhammer-40000-space-marine-scouts/

Followed up our Terminator identification guide with one for the Space Marine Scouts. Their release history turns out to be way more tangled than the Terminators: puffed-sleeve Rogue Trader sculpts, the chapter-specific Space Wolves Sergeants sculpted by Jes Goodwin (which actually predate the generic range by years), the late-arriving 1997/98 metal Scouts, character models like Sgt. Naaman and Sgt. Telion, and finally the plastic kits that just got replaced by the Kill Team Salvation sculpts in 2024.

Covers what to look for if you want an era-appropriate 2nd edition Scout unit, plus donor parts from Necromunda/Imperial Guard for weapon options that never got dedicated Scout sculpts.

Anyone else still running the classic metal Scouts, or has everyone moved on to plastic/Kill Team sculpts by now?

Visited Wheels & Tracks – Living Legends 2026, a historic military vehicle meet in Germany — full report + photos

Went to Wheels & Tracks – Living Legends in Laubuseschbach this weekend, the third year running for this meet on a motocross track in Hesse. Saw Jeeps, half-tracks, a Jagdpanzer 38(t), and even a Scheuch-Schlepper running live, plus a Living History Camp with an Allied encampment and a small parts/militaria market.

Full report here: https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/08/09/wheels-and-tracks-living-legends-2026-laubuseschbach/

Wrote up a full report with photos, comparing the experience to Tankfest (Bovington) and Militracks (Overloon), including practical stuff like entry prices, ride-along costs and how busy the queues got.

Anyone else been to this one, or is it more of a hidden gem compared to the bigger UK/NL events?

Reaver Titan with Graviton Obliterator and Volkite Annihilator

Just finished a full build walkthrough and review of the third Reaver Titan boxed set. this one brings the Graviton Obliterator and Volkite Annihilator to the arms in plastic, plus the Vulkan-Mega Bolter and Conversion Beam Dissolutor as carapace options.

Full write-up here: https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/08/03/review-legions-imperialis-reaver-titan-with-graviton-obliterator-and-volkite-annihilator/

Covered in the review: production quality, posing options, a magnet-swap solution for the fixed arm weapons, and a price comparison between the full kit, the upgrade sprue alone, and the old Forge World resin options.

Curious what people think, does this basically close out the Reaver's weapon options for you, or is there still something you'd want to see in plastic?

Warlord with Volkite Destructor and Macro-Gatling Blaster

Covering the second new Warlord Titan kombi with the Volkite Destructor and Macro-Gatling Blaster, and Graviton Ruinator.

https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/08/02/review-legions-imperialis-warlord-titan-with-volkite-destructor-and-macro-gatling-blaster/

You can find the full review incl. build report, scoring under the link above. No new shield designs, no two full heads, and some of the details from the box art are just to be seen on the 28mm scale set not on the Epic scale one in the box.

[Review] Ambush Miniatures E-10 & E-25 Tank Destroyers (28mm resin) – what-if Panzer prototypes

Full review with build photos and scale comparisons:
https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/06/20/review-ambush-miniatures-e-10-and-e-25-tank/

We're taking a closer look at two tank destroyers from Ambush Miniatures' new Kickstarter "Panzerdivision Cerberus" — part of a six-vehicle line covering E-Series prototypes that never left the drawing board (E-10, E-25, E-50, E-75, Panzerkampfwagen Löwe, plus a Flak variant).

The E-10 was meant to replace the Jagdpanzer 38, with a lowerable suspension to cut its silhouette by up to 40cm — and the kit actually replicates that, with track sections for both configurations. The E-25 is the more aggressive sibling, sized to take on medium armour, with a rotating MG42 cupola.

Both are full resin, 31 EUR each. Casting quality is good overall, though the masters were clearly 3D printed and could've used more post-processing some visible layer lines, a bit of layer shift on the E-25's rear. Nothing that won't disappear under paint. Assembly is straightforward, good fit, minimal warping.

1:56 scale, sits well next to Rubicon, Perry, and Artizan models. Given the what-if nature, these also work for Konflikt '47.

WIP – Converting a 1994 Leman Russ into a retrohammer tank wreck

https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/06/11/warhammer-40000-tank-wrecks-pt-2/

Continuing my tank wreck project and this time the actual conversion work begins. I used WWII reference photos (Panzer IV Normandy, Lebanon Sherman) to figure out what "destroyed" looks like on a tank that's basically a 1940s vehicle anyway. Cut the hull at an angle to suggest it dug into the ground, warped the lascannon barrel, freed up the track links so they fall away from the wheels naturally.

The goal is to keep it in line with the colourful retrohammer aesthetic, so no heavy bullet holes or grimdark overkill. Working with the old kit is actually an advantage here: individual track links instead of combined sections give you a lot more to play with.

Part 1 (stripping) is linked in the blog post.

Alien Cactus Plants styrofoam globes + toothpicks, full tutorial

Full step-by-step tutorial with process shots:
https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/06/08/warhammer-40000-alien-cactus-plants/

Built these alien cactus plants based on the iconic terrain from White Dwarf 164 – the Ork village spread from Adrian Wild's terrain building article. Saw them in action at our Chaosbunker Classics 2nd Edition event and had to build my own.

Materials: styrofoam globes in multiple sizes, toothpicks as spikes (pre-painted before insertion), PVC foamboard bases with bevelled edges, structure paste as a texture coat, Army Painter Battlefield Grass Green flock. Scaled tall enough to provide cover for walkers and
Dreadnoughts, not just infantry.

Key tip: add acrylic paint to your structure paste before stippling – white paste on white styrofoam makes it impossible to see your coverage. Also pre-drill the spike holes and paint the spikes before inserting them, not after.

Anyone else building retro 40k terrain? What's next on your list?

[Review] Dead Man's Hand – US Cavalry on Foot (DMHP006) – 10 hard plastic 28mm for 18 GBP

Full review with sprue breakdown and scale comparison:
https://www.chaosbunker.de/en/2026/05/11/review-dead-mans-hand-us-cavalry-on-foot-dmhp006/

Great Escape Games released their US Cavalry hard plastic kit, originally Kickstarted last November. Two sprues of five, 16 head options per sprue (kepis and cavalry stetsons), carbine and pistol arms, sabre, bugle, plus a dog and a cactus as optional extras. Buffalo Soldiers are buildable from the same kit.

Scale matches North Star and Gripping Beast plastics. Older Wargames Foundry (25mm era) will look short next to them depending on basing.

Anyone mixing these with other manufacturers?

The City of Ash box (175 EUR) comes with two ruined manor terrain pieces and five relic objectives, all packed onto a single sprue. High production quality, sharp details, and an interesting design that feels distinct from the standard Realmscape ruins. But the wooden beam assembly has some fitting issues with noticeable gaps, the footprint is on the smaller side, and the objective markers are more greeblie than actual points of interest.
The Mordheim parallel the box is clearly going for – humans vs. Skaven, ruined city, scarce resources – works thematically, but the terrain quantity keeps it firmly in Spearhead rather than skirmish-campaign territory.

Printed these rock formations from the Stone Trove files by Dana McDonald on a Bambu Lab A1 Standard using the High Quality PLA profile at 0.08mm layer height. The result was clean but top surfaces still had visible layer lines, so I treated those with a thick 1:1 mix of filler and white acrylic before painting.

Files are available on MyMiniFactory in different bundles, and some shops carry them under a merchant licence if you don't have a printer.
